Let's face it, the main attraction of BSF is building your own ships. Share them! If you need help, check the Shipmaker Info & Help forum a little ways down.
So, after about 2 or three years, I've finally decided to make a ship in the ol' ShipMaker. I'm really glad the BSF community is still kicking, so much nostalgia. I doubt many of you older members remember me too well, as I mostly went around lurking.
I'm a bit rusty, so I've decided to make something in the old SW section-style. It's currently unarmed, doesn't have any fancy doodads, and I haven't come up with a name for it. If anyone could remind me how to do all the fancy stuff with the doodads and stripes, it would be much appreciated. Without further ado, here you go!

Looks good, fairly simple but nicely done overall, nothing I can think to criticise it on. Some nice sectionwork and layering blending everything together there. Don't think there's much of a trick to using doodads, although using them as additive shading/highlights like on STARSTRUCK's Fold Guardian Eden and Anna' latest ships looks pretty cool if you can pull it off.
If most people were capable of using SW style sections this well, then I wouldn't constantly be telling them to use Shiny instead. Looks dude, dude. Looks very nice. And hey, welcome back to the forum. It's been a while.

Sweet ship! Welcome back! As for doodads and glows and shit, additive blending is your best friend. Fake aegis of a darkish color (below 30 value in HSV) is your second best friend for glows.
So I'm back with an update on the ship, which I have tentatively called the Genesis-class destroyer. The biggest changes were some minor section adjustment, armament, and changing the glows to doodads.
I appear to have some trouble with the beam sprites, shown here:
Any help with that?

Changing the sprite used for beam weapons is bugged. So yeah, if you use a custom beam sprite, stuff like that will happen. It sucks.

Damnit, oh well. Looks like no blue beams for now. Anyways, I might do the War for the Universe thing, what are the guidelines for ship building for that? I heard mention of Laser Wars.

Are you using the latest Meta2 build of BSF? That has the shockbeamer in it, which basically looks like the blue beam you tried to used there, and doesn't break horribly.
As for War for the Universe, it's basically just "Make a faction, try to have it balanced against other factions. Probably should use primarily blasters and pick a colour from this spreadsheet to determine the stats of your blasters: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... rpQD#gid=0 Or you can just use whatever kind of weapons you want, since plenty of people are."

Maybe, but the game looks much nicer with surfaces on.
