Hey I'm. erm, kinda new here, I've had BSF for about 3 years now and lurking the forums for about 1 and a half. and now finally I've decided to become a member.
I'm not so sure about the name. but I can't come up with anything useful at the moment, so freely post anything sensible reflecting on ship design.
So lets get started
I've made 1 ship so far, I'd like some Constructive criticism. Feel free to give me a cookie and/or tear my eyes out

, and by the way I may upload some pencil drawn concepts of the ships in question, I've ordered a scanner/printer on the internet, so when it comes i'll give it a shot.
(you must know, this is a development. I'm using this fleet as practice, observing C&C and build the next ship on that)

Your ship isn't bad, but it isn't superb. You seem to have gotten all the basics and concepts quite well.
Here's what bothers me (And some other nitpicks):
1) The front part of the ship, there appears to be a bit of the section underneath sticking out. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like from the picture provided.
2) The name written on the ship. It seems unnecessary. In my opinion, it also looks ugly on the ship. And, to be honest, I can't really read it. I know it reads hunter, but it looks as if it spells IILNTER. If you want to add letters, you might want to make them slightly bigger.
3) The back part has an engine, but as seen in the combat screenshot, there's nothing coming out of it. You might want to stick an alpha-0 thruster EX on it so it does something when it moves.
Other than that, the ship is decent. It's always nice to see some new talent here. =)

Thanks for your reply: in answer to your questions:
1:) there is a section sticking under, that's a section which holds a landing light. since it's a starfighter, you may of also noticed the hazard lights and night lights (red)
2:) I was thinking that too, now that i see it. when zoomed in it looked good. so I'll edit that
3:) the ship was at a standstill so I'll Edit it with a picture whilst its moving

Actually, that's not what I was referring to.

This is what I was referring to. It looks off, those two bits sticking out on the sides.

Also, the blue turret looks out of place. Changing its colour to a light grey, like the turret in front, would suit it better

I see what you mean, but unfortunately that's part of the bigger section (same .PNG) that goes towards the front of the ship.

Thats supposed to be the cockpit
oooh, I said a dirty word, it's not a turret

For the cockpit you should use the blue core sprite. I know its somewhere buried in the BSF folders.

Needs more FLOW and RHYTHM and CONSISTENCY (and I'm not even trolling this time). In particular, the combination of blocky and curvy pieces is unpleasant.
I see two directions in which I would improve the design:
- I could remove the orange curvy sections on the rear flanks and the dark sections on the forward flanks, leaving a blocky ship with a triangular nose.
Or, I could snap off the triangular nose and move the backwards-facing ass-nacelles inwards so that they're flush with the rest of the hull, creating a predominantly curvy ship.
The glowy orange bits up front are... odd, by the way. I would either remove the glow or apply the same effect to the rear orange bits.
Whatever you end up doing with your ship, be consistent about it.
