Orelius's Hopefully Decent Ships

Welcome to Orelius's Hopefully Decent Shipyard!

A small fleet. A cruiser and a handful of fighters. I'm particularly proud of these ships.

And a group shot with terrible quality.

I got bored and decided to make an asymmetrical ship, and needless to say, I'm disappointed with the result. This is also one of my first real attempts with shiny sections. It's meant to look like a composite of parts that look like they're slapped on without regard for aesthetics.

I just felt like it was time to post a new ship, I haven't in about two weeks.

This one was one of the first SW ships I made. I'm not too sure if the overlapping sections is visually appealing, though.

Broadsword

This was meant to be a broadside-type ship. To be honest, I'm not really proud of this one. I think I may have overdone the weapons.

Shield

This one was meant originally to be a round-shaped ship with a shield. Well, I'm pretty sure it still is.

Comments/Criticism are appreciated.

None of them are awful especially for your first ship. The first one has some interesting lines, especially around the nose. The second one isn't as appealing but I wouldn't say you went overboard on the weapons or anything. The third one is the nicest of the bunch by far, at least to me. An almost Manta ray shape to it. Maybe some color would help them? I'd start with some strips.

Pretty good in fact, good depthing, not repetitive. Agree with jwa, some colour would be nice. The central section on the second one looks a bit bare, unless it's movable and hiding a weapon? How about uploading them, def want to try them out

Boring and messy with poor flow between internal details, but pretty good for a newbie. If these are indicative of your skill after a short period of time you should improve fairly quickly.

too much kae_generic pieces. Use some DS_Tech and HorseMonster... or even some Kae_mchsw or TSA_Uraki. It'll look a lot more interesting that way. You've got flow and depth, it's just the choice of sections that's poor.

Well, it's not the sprites you use, it's how you use them.

Unless it's the default sprites.

Anyway, The third one looks the best. I like the shape/thruster placement. It could use a little more color though.Looking forward to seeing more.

Really? I don't think I used that many kae_generic pieces, well except maybe on the second one. I'm using mostly overlapping kae_mchsw, kae_robo, and kae_mechasw parts. I'll look in to those.

Anyway, thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll try to get another ship up soon.

I've tried getting color into my ships, but it just doesn't seem to work out. I guess I'll try later.

And, a new addition:

I see... one shiny section, and the rest are all DST?

I guess you got what you were aiming for, but if you want a real junkship, maybe try building a bunch of ships in the same file and then mash them together.

Sorry, but I really just compounded the shiny and dst sections into shiny in my head since they look similar.

By the way, are there any asymmetrical ship designs that can actually look good? I've been looking around the forums and I really can't find many.

Erm, these seem to be the same as the ships at the top of the page...

That would be because he added them to the first post after he posted them.

Which you could tell by the whole "Last edited by Orelius on Wed Oct 06, 2010 10:04 am, edited 3 times in total." at the bottom of the first post.

That's rather my point. Why are they posted twice on the same page? Not that I mind looking at them twice, they seem quite decent efforts to me.
