The power of spare time

Let's face it, the main attraction of BSF is building your own ships. Share them! If you need help, check the Shipmaker Info & Help forum a little ways down.

The power of spare time

Post by thenoobiebuilder »

My brother recently got BF and started on the shipmaker.
As a preview of what you can do with shipmaker I made this cruiser.
SMscreen022.png
Specs

3 x Particle drive engines each with one GR-5 Hyperdrive unit
1 x HR-95 long range radar
1 x HB-01 shield system creating a force shield with the equivalent of 30,000hp
1 x MK9 dual missile launch system
200 x AIM-109 medium range heat seeking missiles for the MK9
50 x AIM-24 long range radar guided missiles for the MK9
5000+ tons of NANobot composite armor

So far my brother's latest ship looks like this
SMscreen023.png
As you can see he can't mirror his ship yet.
He's getting better though

he hasn't learned to not set his weps to 9999999999 dmg
(As his ships can't even dent my H class fighter that has 3.5K health)
(his ship had 300K health)
I am a fan of the "Push F to fire everything" idea.

I really don't know why I'm thinking these thoughts,
but I do know they aren't mine...

No offense, but the first ship you posted pales in comparision to many of the ships posted before you were even able to do even fancier stuff, like importing sections. :P You brother's ship, it's crap. For the shield on the cruiser, select it, go to the ED2 tab, set "Blending" to "Additive." You can now raise the depth of the shield and still see the ship! Also, please use depthing.
A gay as fuck girl and loving it.

I hope your joking about the amount of health your giving those ships because thats just pointless. Its better to build a strong ship that doesn't come apart as easily even against stronger weapons than a god ship, because a god ship can be easily destroyed. Maybe you would like some mines transported aboard your ship? Its possible...
I suggest you do look at other threads; everyone has a crappy first ship so just try to improve your technique. Tell your brother that swa sprites(the textures and shaded ones with black borders) don't easily combine with stock sprites(white borders) Also press W while selecting a weapon or module to depth it to the same level as it's parent sprite. Ie those thruster modules can be hidden, as can missile launchers and such.
The shield on the first ship is ridiculously large, needs to be set to additive or less alpha, and in general is the only feature I can easily see because you took the screenshot from so far away.(press home for that) Mirroring is a waste of time on a ship that small and results in inaccuracies because the parented sprites tend to move. The proper method is to match x/y coordinates for symmetrical ships. Good luck, hope you build something good.

I said my brother set his ship's health to 300K.

The highest I have ever set my ship health to is 20K for a MASSIVE mothership.
The health of the ship I showed is only 6.5K
The standard health I set for a distroyer

My ships Always have depth, only thing is I can't do shading.

That's pretty much an oxymoron
you can't depth without shading
naysayers will be shot

Shading is easy. What you percieve as the 'higher' sections get a lighter color, while the 'lower' sections get a darker one. Generally these are the same colors, just lighter or darker ie: white, light grey, dark grey. I won't tell you how to balance your ships, just that even 6.5 is usually only for dreadnoughts or something on most ships I see. I'll play with whatever you post for download though.

The funny thing is this is can take on and kill one of my motherships easily

If you look at the ship you will see that I did layer the ship correctly

You're not doing anyone a favour by showing everyone your brother's ships.

Let him present his creations when he wishes to.
Realism, seriously? It's a space ship game. Realism was thrown out the window a long time ago.
