First, I'll introduce myself, I'm Machine, and I'll be using this thread to post random ships, related or not. I'm from Chile, so sorry if I don't make sense sometimes as English is not my first language. I'm 21 years old and a biochemistry student.

The following vessels (and mechs) are not really for a particular fleet, but I tried to keep a similar style between them (mainly a gray hull, with red decorations, a dark green team colour, and also the ability to transform in the bigger ships), in the event I decide to include them into an actual fleet. Well they kinda are a fleet, an unnamed fleet...

Variant Mechs:
Variants, yes that's their name, can be customized in several ways depending on the battlefield conditions; I had made 4 versions, however I lost the "Gunslinger" due to it being overwritten accidentally by the "Swordsman"

Brawler Variant:

Close combat specialized load out, it features a head machinegun and two heat knuckles, it also has a stronger armour, so it's able to withstand more punishment.

Gunner Variant:

Long range-mid range specialized suit, it features a weaker armour than the Brawler, a railgun pistol and a nuclear bazooka.

Swordsman Variant:

Damage oriented Variant, it has the weakest armour and it operates well at any range. It has the fastest fire rate, and the heat sword does as much damage as the Brawler's heat knuckles. Yet, due to its weaker armour it's less likely to survive in close combat. (note: the spin up of the chaingun was not intentional, but looks nifty).

Gunslinger Variant:

Remade the Gunslinger, it has 2 blaster pistols a head vulcan (like all the other Variants), and 2 mini missile launchers.

Ships:

Drones depicted here, are meant to be small disposable ships spawned by the Leviathan Flagship, and Behemoth Assault Carrier (which is still unfinished).
The Remora is meant to be a small patrol ship, and its deployed state is meant as a signalling mode.

Manta Corvette:
The Manta is a small ship, it can enter a defensive mode by covering its nose. It's usually used as a escort for larger ships.

Image ImageAn unnamed vessel, it has two versions a militarized mine-layer (it lays the "MINE" you saw previously :lol:) and a fuel tanker which has two simple animations, one in which it throws the fuel tank, and another where it opens to reload at a fuel station (both pictured at the same time in the second image)

Hydra Gunship:

The original Hydra was meant to be an atmospheric vessel, a huge helicopter specialized in troop deployment and air support. However it's successor was equipped with thrusters so it could operate in space being able to perform as a dropship in addition to it's original purposes.

Stingray Destroyer:

The Stingray is the main ship in the fleet, it's able to transform from a frontal assault pattern to a broadside quite quickly, it's main cannon however is able to turn 360º so it can be used in both configurations. Its back missile launchers are meant to describe big curves so the missiles can reach the undefended rear of the enemy ships (Click the image to see a battlefield demonstration).
It was meant to have a booster or projector module, however in the image it has a nano matrix, I just forgot to change it.

Well I mainly just made it after seeing STARSTRUCK's Vritra; I had to make something similar, that could also make a full circle, as pictured in the second image. However I don't feel it belongs with the rest of the ships, since it doesn't really transform, it's barely animated, besides the head section railgun sections that experience recoil when fired, and its thrusters are blue instead of red. (By clicking the first image, you can see an image showing its caterpillar movement).

Leviathan Dreadnought:

The Leviathan, it's meant to look older than the rest of the ships, however it packs the most advanced weaponry, after being refitted several times. More than anything this ship is meant for siege or destroying big slow targets, it sports a main tesla cannon, 2 nuclear torpedo launchers in it's head section, it also has 1 chaingun and a plasma cannon in each prong, in the rear is has 8 demeter drone launchers and 8 missile launchers, positioned to describe curved trajectories (as seen in the picture when you click the image). As modules, it includes 2 nano matrixes and its deployed state is meant to deploy Fighter Drones.

BTW, I would like some pointers about how the game centers custom sprites (specially on the Y axis, I already know how to center turrets on the X axis), as I've been making some, and it seems I can't get them right :wink:.
Also sorry about the chunky gifs, the Leviathan transforms slowly so I frame skipped its gif, and to reduce filesize I made the gifs stop for a while in each state for both the Stingray and the Leviathan. And dunno what's wrong with the Swordsman's gif it shows fine in my computer.

DOWNLOAD
Included ships and mechs previews. The download includes 2 versions of each ship, a teamcoloured version, and a non teamcoloured version (no TC). In the previews, team colour was set as dark blue.

Normally, I wouldn't like the red/green combination you've got going here, but now I do.
I must say. I really like the Leviathan, and the fact that you've made joints in each ship, not just hide it behind another section.
I certainly like how you made the leviathan animated, with the opening missile rack, the opening of the thing infront of it.
And the pulse in the front section, Also, I'd suggest some doodads on the leviathans arms, it looks silly having them only on the main body.

You did a great job with the ships.

I 2nd AlphaDetisMegas ideal of more doodads on the leviathans arms. Given how well the main body is decorated, the arms seems kind of empty.

Overall, I love your ships, especially the mechs. I have been waiting for good mechs to appear again for some time. (There are 1 or 2 nice mech desgins in the past but no dls, so I don't have any ideal if they work well.)

My only suggestion would be to desaturated the greens a little. They are a bit too saturated now and makes the ships less realistic then they could be. This is mainly for the brighter greens. The darker ones appear ok.

Another ideal to try is a colour test. Maybe colour a ship in a few different versions and see which may fit them best.
Anna did a camo colour scheme that was perfect for his Warbee here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5312&start=15. Given the heavy military designs of your ships, may be you could work out something great as well.

All in all, GREAT JOB! :)

BTW, Can we DL your ships? Want to try out your designs in Battleships Forever. They look so good.


Edit: I forgot to add that your designs don't look similar to the other current designs from other shipmakers, which is a big plus! Suggest sticking to it and maybe make all the ships even more alike, like a "design series". Hope to see more!

Doodads don't work properly on moving sections. They fuck up and get all wonky and out of place, even if the limb isn't moving. At least, they do for drive sections, I dunno if that's the case for regular moving sections. I'd have to check.

And yeah, these are really good ships for a newbie. Have you been lurking for a fair while, or do you just pick things up really quickly, Machine? Either way, they're really nice. There's certainly room for improvement. Some of your colours seem a bit too dark, and I gotta say that personally I'm not a big fan of the red and green, though it's by no means awful. Also, perhaps you could set your background in Shipmaker to black when you take your screenshots? The very colourful and blue background you used for most of them rather distracts from the ships themselves.

Edited the first post to include a download, and a remade Gunslinger.
Hopefully the download has all the needed custom sprites, if it doesn't please notify me so I can fix the issue :wink:.

Also addressed the saturation issue with the greens, as it was my custom team colour, I just made alternate versions with no team colour. Added animations to the Leviathan's wings (and fixed an animation in the Stingray), however as Anna said, doodads don't work well with some moving sections, to fix that I added small sections with fade and/or movement animations.

@Anna:
I've been lurking for a little while, after noticing the new sprite style; before that I didn't have any interest in ship building. These ships, however, are relatively new, just made them during my free time after classes, they are in no way my first ships though (those suck a lot).
On relation to the dark colours, I didn't notice them before. Probably because I play with gradients on, so they look brighter ingame (the download's previews were made with gradients turned off). Anyway haven't fixed the colours since I will be testing different colour schemes.

Damn you for not including .sb4s in the download. XD While the ships are really impressive for a newcomer, their style for the most part isn't really to my taste, so I wasn't gonna grab the download, until I saw the spinny/rotating bit on the rear of the sidepods, on the Leviathan. I saw that and just immediately thought "HOW THE HELL DID HE DO THAT I MUST HAVE .SB4 SO I CAN REVERSE-ENGINEER THIS MARVELOUS TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT!" :lol:

I'm sure that the way it was done was probably painfully simple and easy to figure out, but for the life of me, if it wasn't done with doodads, I have absolutely no idea how you got those red bits on the sidepod engines to look like they're spinning. It looks fucking great for something so simple and I can think of numerous applications of such technology.

Um, that looks like one of Squishy's weapon sprites from the ye olde Metagame, only rotated 90 degrees and pianted red. Probably a doodad. :wink:

Damn, it is just an animated section. I thought so, but I was kinda hoping otherwise, 'cause I mean... if there was a way to make it look like a whole chunk of ship was rotating just by very clever usage of moving sections and shit, I would be all over that like... like... fuck, I can't think of a comparison that isn't silly, offensive or racist, but suffice to say I'd really be totally all over it. But since it's just a custom section that I'm unfamiliar with, that joy is lost to me. :(

What do you think?. Of course these are just test ships, since the sprites I'm making are not finished, and haven't been named properly. Though I'll probably remake these bugs in the future, after I'm done with the pack.
