A quick glossary to start...

IFNS - International Federation Naval Ship
IFNC - International Federation Naval Command
IFC - International federation of Commonwealth
(notice a pattern...)
HEAPEMAC - High Explosive Armour Piercing Electro-Magnetic Acceleration Cannon
SWORD - Single Warhead Ordnace Regulated Delivery system

7th Fleet Refit Programme (T.C.E. 2881)
New developments by the IFC's various research divisions have led to a number of improvements being made to the ships of the 7th fleet, who are more compatible than any other IFC vessel with the new technologies. Primarily more powerful reactors and bussard scoop arrays hves allowed both an increase in speed and an increase in firepower with additional supporting turrets appearing on most vessels. Armour has been greatly improved with the use of new semi-newtonian lattice armour composites, and firepower has overall been improved by new high-yield ammunition.

Ships:

-CV Tesla Class IFNS Indifference

A major conversion of the Tesla-Class design, the Indifference is an escort carrier capable of keeping up with the highly manouverable destoryers and providing cover from opposing fighters and bombers with its two wings of Shadowlancer interceptors. Although its weaponry has been stripped down to make room for the landing deck and hangars, the Indifference is still capable of anti-capital support due to its two medium HEAPEMACs, and better defensive capabilities with its two heavy dual flak turrets.

2x Bussard scoop arrays for ion fuel collection

Drive System:

2x High efficiency ion thrusters
2x Ion retro-thrusters
8x Vectored ion jets
-DD Tesla Class IFNS Stormclad

One of the first of the Tesla-Class assault destroyers the Stormclad is a multi purpose vessel that can provide long range bombardment capabilities as well as front-line support with anti-capital and defensive weaponry, all backed up by decent armour and good manouerevability. The Tesla-Class is still experimental but the Stormclad has already proved its worth in battle against insurrectionist and alien forces alike.

- Centre above BB IFNS Ignie Ferroque - IF Shadowlancers (one wing)

Multi-purpose strike and interception fighters, Shadowlancers were designed for use in both atmospheric and exo-atmospheric conditions. They are fast and agile and very capable of outmanouevering enemies, performing execptionally in dogfights, however their weaponry is too weak to cause much of a threat to capital vessels.

Drive System:

4x Ion thruster/ramjet multi-purpose engines
-BB Vulcan-Class IFNS Ignie Ferroque (By Fire and Sword)

The Vulcan-Class battleship is a mammoth amalgam of fire power and armour. Although huge and lumbering by the standards of the 7th fleet it is still able to engage and defeat any foe, mainly due to its firepower that rivals that of many entire fleets. The Vulcan-Class will probably be one of the last classes of "big-gunned" starships in the IFNC fleets as advances in accelarator and fusion beam technologies are developing at a rate that is soon set to eclipse the older, conventional weaponry.
Specifications:

4 Bussard scoop arrays for ion fuel collection

Drive System:

8 High efficiency ion thrusters with retro brakes/positional vents
-DD Tesla-Class IFNS Serenity

The Serenity is a support version of the standard Tesla-Class design. It retains the main firepower of the destoryer, while replacing the powerful yet short ranged fusion cannon for longer ranged torpedo launchers, therefore providing fire support for fleet sized encounters while still retainign its ability to function effectively alone.

Drive System:

2x High efficiency ion thrusters
2x Ion retro-thrusters
8x Vectored ion jets
-FF Lancer-Class IFNS Eminence
Equipped with the array of ion thrusters normally found on a heavy destroyer and with the addition of a direct input bussard fusion drive the FF Lancer-Class Hunter-Killer Frigates are extremely fast and manouerevable. Ideally suited to patrol roles, in packs these light vessels can be deadly to almost any vessel, using their superior speed and turning to attack vunerable areas such as engines and reactors

I'm not sure if the screenshots made it obvious, but the turret sprites are not designed to be used by themselves. They are merely parts used in the assembly of larger, multi-sectioned turrets, like so;

WOW! Nice sprites! Both detailed and simple at the same time. The ship is hence very nice too, strangely interesting and generic at the same time. Not sure how well the sprites would hold to to colouring though. And as Arca said the turret sprites like that are made for layering up fully flegded get-off-my-space-lawn turrets. I guess the true acid test is to see how it looks and handles in game.

i didn't know that thanks. but i think they still look pretty good on their own anyway

@rugdumph - thanks :D i put quite alot of effort inot getting all the highlights and shadows right. there are only a few sprites used more than once thorought the ship as well, so it took quite a bit of time, but i think its worth it. in game it's pretty balanced... it tends to do best at long range against large groups of enemies, but the fusion cannon make it effective one-on-one close up. its main weakness is when it gets mobbed, which tends to end up in a "total hull failure" - the hullspine goes straight back into the core (boom)

Sure, if you can somehow ignore the glaring lack of anything that vaguely resembles a barrel assembly.

I think it looks amazing! The wings seem like they should be darker but other than that and the barrel thing, a fleet in this style would look great. If you feel like releasing those sprites, I would love to use them.

This is pretty great. The middle/spine looks a little off, something with the lighting but other than that, it's great. I'm envious. :)

A pretty unique sprite style. It could use a little more detail and a little less... grunge? Either way, keep at it.

well, i am able to distinctly see two separate barrels. granted, they are recessed into the turret, and that's not a fave style of mine, but i can see the barrels.

I like the shape and the sprites...well...MOAR! Pweeease.

...I wonder if someone could convert the stock sprites into this...
Don't you have stuff to do?

@Arcalane - yeah i suppose it is a slight problem when the artillery rounds materialise several feet in front of the turret. I used these as more suitable alternative to the stock sprites, as currently I am having a total mental block on weapon design

@jwa8402 - thanks! the ony problem with making the wings darker is that it loses some of the detail, but it does make the layering look a bit off as it is now. When I've finished the ship I'll release the sprites, but not all of them are finished yet. For example, the prow section is mostly one big sprite which just looks like about 7.

@Areze - yeah I think it looks like that because of the highlights and shadows. The light source is meant to be from the top right, but I'll work on some of the shading to try and make it look more even. Thanks!

@Starstruck - Yeah I really need to add more detail to the middle section of the ship, it just looks too bland... The grunginess was intentional, I wanted the ship to look slightly weathered/camouflaged (not sure how that works in space)

@Nutcase - If I have some spare time I'll see what I can do :D the highlights and shadows won't be as good though if they're not specially placed for each part

Quite a unique style of sprites, which I like a lot. Admittedly I like the front better than the back. The front has this sort of gunmetal-grey texture which is quite nice. The back on the other hand looks a bit smudged, and lacks detail compared to the front

I also like how you've individually shaded each section in relation to its position on the ship, it gives the ship nice depth.

Basically, make more sprites with that style, so that I can use them :P

yeah, i think it's because i did the highlights better at the front. Also, the texture I'm using actually did originate from textures I first used to texture guns in 3d modelling, so that's why it looks that way!

I love what you have done with this ship. I would say this is the most 'realistic' looking ship ever posted on this form. Every criticism i could have given you has already been said. So there is really nothing more to add.

But i do have a question vidboi how long have you been making ships?
