i'm liking the design of this ship. just needs some more shading to increase the contrast now.

thw rounded ship you posted a while back is interesting. imo it's quite good. two things that you could do is add some shading around the edges of the sprites to add depth to them and also edit the rounding at the back; it doesn't flow properly into the thruster which therefore looks stuck on

Yep, really the only thing needed to be done is to shade a bit more. Add a few more glows here and there as well, and it should look like are realy nice ship. Admittedly I think the front could be longer and more pointy, but that's not really necessary, as the ship stands

Ok, as i work on making the last one pretty and choosing a good colour scheme...is this pointy enough?

And a simple but elegant weapons platform.

The ship is fantastic in so many ways, and I really look forward to it being colored. You have an interesting style and some very good section usage in some places, but those wings are a jumbled mess. Fix those and, assuming the coloring and armament look good, I'd say you have a mighty fine ship.

The platform is nice, a bit simple, but until it's armed it's hard to really judge.

Ok colour time...

Image

I'm happy with the colour scheme of cyan, yellow, with gray bits showing, but i don't think this is the best it could come out. Think i'll sacrifice a shade of yellow for an extra shade of cyan, help the depthing, since it's ok now but there's just not enough in my opinion. What do you think? And by the way the previous ship in sorting out the wings has...grown...slightly... whoops.

Edit: Also i must of made the drones far too powerful cause they can somehow core the big ship :? i swear the parenting is good, and the drones aren't actually that powerful either, and the ship has a fair bit of hp...dammit! On another note hopefully some doodads will help the colour.

Edit: Ok i think it was just that instance of BSF :? , however i've found a new problem, because of the power of the huge kinetic cannon, if it fires when the ship is above another, then the resulting damage destroys the ship itself because of being too close :? didn't think the explosion was big enough, hmm.

To be prefectly honest, I'm not really a fan of the colour scheme, I simply don't like the way they look next to each other. I do think that you should colour over some of the yellow sections, because they look worse and I prefer the cyan coloured sections, they look fine. You could keep some of the minor sections and the turrets yellow, but I think it should be kept to a low

you could change the yellow to orange & the cyan to mauve.

These colors don't go well together right now.

Thank you! Your suggestion of mauve has cause me to stumble upon a page in simple wikipedia that shows lots of shades of colours and gives the RGB values for them! I'll have some revised colour scheme shortly. (If anyone's interested, http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mauve , yes it's one the mauve page but it's got a colour list at the bottom and etc.) (This is probs better if you are interested, lists all the colours, each one linking to a list of dozens and dozens of shade of that colour in some cases, http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors)

You can also google "color scheme designer" a great tool for getting different color shades, saturated ones and full color ones, as well as good color combinations.

To get the RGB value of them, you could simply use GIMP or Photoshop.

One of the easiest color schemes to use are complimentary colors or in other words colors opposite each other on the real color wheel.
Using two or three colors of a triad can also have good results. A triad is a group of three colors on the real color wheel each equidistant from each other.

Anyway, this ship could really benefit from well used glows or doodading. I don't like how the front seems sharp and narrow while the back starts to round off. The ship also feels really choppy as there are lines that 'cut' across your ship and split it into parts.

If you need me to be anymore specific, PM me.

Or you could instead choose to follow the advice of people who are willing to post their more in-depth critiques publicly and take with the grain of salt the opinions and advice of someone who's unwilling to post detailed criticisms because they get torn apart like confetti by pretty much anyone with any sense who reads them.

i like the overall shape of the ship including the front, although there is something that just isn't entirely perfect about it...

the colours do not work. the cyan just doesn't look good at all and the lemon yellow is worse. i know that everything recent seems to have very subdued colour schemes, but there's a reason for it...

one thing you could do is increase the range of depthing on the outer wingish areas, they look a bit flat right now

Ok Seraph, I see your point. I admit it was idiotic to post 'rhythm' without explaining it.
And I'm trying to learn from it and be better, 'kay? As you can see I've tried posting in depth cnc without using any ridiculous words.
Basically would it hurt to take my cnc when it's something comprehendable and useful? And was it necessary to attack something I did in the past when I'm visibly trying to not make that mistake again?

I wasn't attacking anything you did in the past, I was merely addressing the attitude that makes you tell him to ask you in PM. An attitude like that clearly isn't the attitude of someone whose advice I'd be especially interested in, anyway. I'm not going to tell anyone to outright ignore your advice, because that's silly. I was merely saying that if you lack the confidence to post your critiques publicly, then they may not be worth a whole lot.

Moving on, I figured while I was paying a visit in this thread, I should do my best to offer a critique and perhaps some suggestions as to how the ship might be improved. Suggestions that are actually helpful. First one is easy. Use less saturated colours, man. I can't even say this enough. Saturation makes ships look bright and silly, more often than not, where as less saturation gives a faded metallic look to non-grey colours.

Next, I've thrown together this little demonstration pic, and highlighted some points:
Image

As to the rear bits, circled in red. I'm assuming these are engines. I have to assume, 'cause it's not obvious what the heck they're meant to be, by looking at them. The grey bits would benefit from a more detailed section with a more defined shape, while the blue bit should probably curve into the hull more cleanly.

The bits circled in cyan... these just look weird and out of place. I'm not sure if the yellow bits are meant to be solid hull pieces or glows. If they're meant to be glows, there should be smaller white doodads underneath them to give a glow effect. If they're meant to be solid hull pieces, replace them with sections.

Moving onwards to the bits circled in green. I see what you're going for here, and it possibly could have worked, but if you compare the way they curl around, to the flow and depth of the sections beneath, they seem awkward and out of place. I'd recommend shading these pieces darker, or perhaps replacing them all together.

The bits circled in blue. These bits are nasty. I realise they're probably meant to be covers for the missiles underneath or something, but the very solid and blatant rectangular shape stuck in the middle of a ship made of triangles and curves is so horrendously out of place that words fail me. Recommend outright removal.

Finally, the bits circled in orange. I think these yellow bits are actually a little too dark, and I'm not sure they're entirely necessary to the shape of the ship. The same goes for the yellow and grey bits coming out of the back of the wings, really, but that's something you might need to experiment with.

Lastly, here's another quickly thrown together picture of additions/changes you might want to try. This is not a guideline by any means, just suggestions or recommendations that I think could perhaps improve the look of your ship:

After reading that i agree with most of it however the glows added on the side are quite nice and don't look out of place at all, maybe more of them on other sections would help them fit better if you still agree with Anna, also the yellow section in the blue area stands out to me as quite ugly perhaps a more curvy or triangular section would be better.
Adding engine exhaust or glows/doodads to the engines (presuming they are engines) might draw attention to the fact that they are as well.

On a separate note that was tremendously good c&c from Anna doesn't everyone want a comment from him now ;).

p.s.Im not trying to blow smoke up your ass Anna just thought it was a great example of c&c.
