Areze's Shipyard

Let's face it, the main attraction of BSF is building your own ships. Share them! If you need help, check the Shipmaker Info & Help forum a little ways down.

The back half looks pretty good, especially the very back. The sections there are quite well used.
As soon as you move forward to the "stock 26" sections, it just gets worse and worse. The two section styles clash and the back of the ship is definitely the better looking. I'd recommend redrafting the front of the ship with different sections.
The shape of the whole thing is nice though. If you could just try some different sections, or use the current ones better, I think it would look great.

Needs a dash of colour besides the torpedo launchers too. Right now it's just a bland monochrome blob that needs a lot of work.

Looking at your older pictures/ships you still need to get the hang of flow and whatnot. Internally speaking, everything is just messy and disorganized. Think about the internal lines and the shapes they make.

Also: you're doing what I usually do and/or used to do a lot, which is namely not rotating sections even slightly, apart from flipping. I am sure this has a significant impact on the subject of me not having built very many decent looking ships lately. Rotate sections more. Seriously.

If you want to make stock ships, use stock sections.

If you want to make SWA ships, use REAL SWA SECTIONS, for fuck's sake, not those shitty-ass stock conversions. They look like crap. They do not blend with regular SWA sections AT ALL and anyone who uses them needs to be clubbed over the head until they stop being FUCKING RETARDED. I'm sorry if I'm being harsh but if you can't see the stylistic differences between those boring pieces of junk and the SWA sections designed by Kaelis, you have a problem. The standard SWA conversions of the original stock sections are garbage. Complete and utter. There are hundreds of non-shit SWA sections available thanks to Kaelis. For the love of god, use those.

Das? The dark area on the Einherjar are just very dark red sections. Probably should get a shot in shipmaker if it isn't any harder to see.

Retconned the MIRVS as they were giving me grief.

Hmm, now those are actually really nice design wise. I woulda used different sections probably but both seem decently solid. Only big problem is the centerline gaps on both classes. The smaller one could have a split nose and still look good, but on the bigger one the gap runs almost the whole ship and really pulls the eye. Easy to fix though.

That's bugged me as well. The thing is though that if I try to fix it the sections overlap. I guess I could just take the easy way and cover it up with the small sections and call it 'details'. That would feel like cheating though...

Well for some gaps you can move sections .50 so they line up but that blurs things usually. I'd use some dst sections like 36, 69, 75, and 142. Kae_gnr-sw03 also works though I think its off center a bit from other sprites.

Edit: I changed the Kae_gnr-sw03 (or something) sprite so that it lines up now.

Also, changed the image to the latest.

Edit II:

Experimenting with Kaelis' sections. I call it the Angreb

Edit III: Replaced image with newer one.

Finished the Angreb. Lifted from the Beauty Pageant Post.

Spoiler!
The mysterious group calling themselves the Gharvengei has been raiding the outer systems of our space for a while. Casualties have been very high, and all contact with a ship that has been identified as the Angreb-class dreadnought was among them. Their capabilities have shown themselves at the Battle of Santa Maria just a month ago. The result were disturbing to say the least.

In that battle, a routine patrol was going through the UCS-109 system, exploring it for possible colonization. Three hostile battleship signatures were detected. The patrol quickly warped out and notifed the local garrison at Santa Maria. One Admiral Gaitautas led task force fifteen to remove them. When he entered, three of these Angrebs attacked with very strange weaponry, causing severe losses before Gaitautas' forces managed to get a single shot off. Calling for reinforcements, he attacked further. By the time the elite 'Bulldog' fleet entered the battle, Gaitautas' force had taken up to 65% casualties and had failed to break through the enemies' shielding, which scans report is thickest in front. Gaitautas was ordered to retreat adn the Bulldogs engaged.

The bulldog's forces had taken moderate losses, and Gaitautas's force had been all but neutralized. Full casualty count: 3,577 dead, 2,011 wounded. Twelve ships lost, eight too damaged to recover and scrapped.

Enemy losses unknown, but expected to be low. One enemy vessel moderately damaged. Enemy ships shown to have poor point defenses, but powerful frontal particle shielding to compensate. Both admirals also reported that ships has shocking quality of apparent self-repair in mid-battle. Scientists looking into validity of this claim.
I will likely lose, but at least I can say I tried.

My creative well ran dry for SW-style ships, so I made one in the old retro style. Here's the backstory:
Spoiler!
The Terran Dominion, actually based on Mars, as the Cradle of Man was a semi-uninhabitable museum by the modern age, was huge and powerful. It controlled dozens of systems that were firmly in its grasp, and a hypergate system made it's frontiers only a few days away instead of weeks or months. However, there was a problem. The old Mercutio-class dreadnoughts were getting extremely long in the tooth. A new model was needed. Enter the Lustine-class Dreadnought. Although most of its weapons were all fairly conventional, they got the job done admirably, and the advanced sabot turrets proved themselves to be deadly effective in combat. There are only about thirty at the moment, but many more are on the assembly yards on Phobos and Deimos. Terran admirals have expressed a little concern over the lack of a bubble shield, but have pointed out that with the new design, a third-sphere expansion would be well-rewarding.

I'm actually liking that last ship. Retro but seems solid for the most part.
