Zalausai's Ships and Ship Ideas

Let's face it, the main attraction of BSF is building your own ships. Share them! If you need help, check the Shipmaker Info & Help forum a little ways down.

Fading doesn't work well with triggers. I could have some hex shields as sections that pop out, but that'll be ugly.

Got some shading done to create depth. Currently unsure of the color to go with. Open to suggestions.

A shade of blue used in stripes and/or highlights perhaps?

Something about it feels off, but I just can't lay my finger on it.

It looks great!

All this transforming stuff is well and good but what purpose does it serve (besides making the ship larger and therefore more of a target).

It doesn't really look particularly good. It's flat and chunky and the serrated spikes that come out of it are stupid as fuck. They literally ruin what could be an otherwise interesting ship with their flat, bland pointiness sticking out of the thing awkwardly for no goddamn reason. And the worst part is, the transformation itself is just... dumb. There's no point to it. It's pointless. It's a small ship making itself big. Where is the point of that. D00D's ships had transformations that kinda made some sort of sense, with thick, solid, armored things that opened up and unleashed an array of weaponry, or ships that transformed into another shape to focus high-powered weapons while transformed.

This thing... just... slowly gets bigger. It expands out in every direction to seemingly no real purpose. Even the over-all shape remains the fucking same in both forms, except for the horrid spiky bits coming out of it.

It just... it makes me sad, Zalausai. It makes me sad that you miss the point of what made D00D's transforming ships so cool. It makes me sad that you seem intent on spending more effort on stupid transformy shit like this instead of just making things that look good. I am generally just saddened.

Just figure out a good excuse for it to transform and the rest will follow. Most blokes just go "fuck it I'm wanna make a Deceptioncon" (sic) and that's the end of that train of thought. The end result is a small ship that, for no apparent reason, expands itself into an oddly-shaped feminine safety razor.

Some decent excuses are:
- Covering/exposing a structurally weak spinal cannon
- Covering/exposing sensitive heavy missile bays (I've done this)
- Covering/exposing an entrance of some sort, like a dinghy bay on a junker ship
- Shifting the ship's cones of fire (e.g. switching from a broadsider to a forward focus fire ship, or vice versa)
- Switching modes of propulsion (e.g. exposing a high-impulse drive, or unfolding lifting surfaces for reentry)

In order to create one that has an alternate mode, a key will need to be pressed instead of weapon acquired target.

Testing. Weapon lost target does not activate when the ship with the trigger inflicts the killing blow. If the target is destroyed by another ship, however, it will function normally.

Fine, I will scale back the crazy transformations and make more "normal" ships. The will still transform, but most likely to deploy weapons, ablative armor, etc. (Simple)

I am considering "taking a hatchet to my children", meaning to scrap all current ships in the DGW and create them again from scratch.
If any are worth keeping in their faction's roster, be sure to comment here.

A new ship has arrived for the civilian section of the DGW.

Did it randomly. Used green, because I hardly use green. No triggers are used.
