Political Factions
New Eden
4 Star systems
2 Inhabited Planets
Capital System: Empyrean
Population: 452,000,000
The protagonist faction of the universe.
New Eden is a colony 40 light-years from earth, established by a private venture two hundred years ago. It was initially peaceful colony, but after almost succumbing to a recent communist revolution on New Eden itself, the government and the population have taken on an almost fanatical opposition to communism and antagonism toward its communist neighbors.
New Eden possesses advanced cybernetics technology, and uses it to greatly augment its industrial capacity. New Eden is noted to possess numerous industrial moons and asteroids that are almost completely automated.
New Eden Military Forces, NEN, is developed on the technological bastion of advanced automation and inexpensive hyperdrives. These technologies allow NEN create very effective medium-sized starships and to a large number of them. NEN also has some of the known universe's most effective unmanned fighters.
Independent System of Camelot
1 Star System
1 Inhabited Planets
Capital System: Winchester
Population: 98,500,000
Another colony not aligned to any regional powers. Camelot is currently undergoing a more severe than usual economic depression, and discontent about the government's handling of the economy had sparked revolutionary activity among the colony's few inhabitants.
Camelot has relatively little industry and possesses sparse network of space infrastructure. The economy of Camelot is supported by tourism income and export of refined organic molecules harvested from Winchester's outer gas giant.
The military of Camelot posses many small, non-interstellar warships of domestic design, and a few larger interstellar warships purchased from neighboring powers.
Republic of Reveton
5 Star Systems
3 Inhabited Planets
Capital System: Michelangelo
Population: 6,430,000,000
A Group of Colonies settled by Earth Government about 100 years ago, and was also the destination of mass immigrations. Better planning ahead for immigrations prevented the social problems that plagued the Athenian League planets. During the scare that the Athenian revolution might spread to The Reveton Colonies, New Eden was instrumental in providing economic aid and military hardware that calmed the public mentality, and thus a friendly relationship formed between the two governments. Although the recent eruption of revolutionary activity on NE caught Reveton's planners off guard, Reveton nonetheless was able to provide help to New Eden's loyalist faction with small bits of assistance during the later stages of the New Eden revolution.
Reveton was quick to develop itself as the sector's financial center. However, being such a new nation, its industrial and technological base is less advanced than those of New Eden and Athens.
Reveton Space Force possesses a balanced fleet of ships, numerically about the equal of the NEN, and technologically about as advanced as that of the Athenian league. The Reveton government had petitioned New Eden to transfer more advanced military technology to keep up with recent advances in the Athenian Navy. Out of fear for its technology falling into Communist hands, however, NE had only allowed the sale of significantly downgraded export-variants of its weapons systems.
Athenian League
8 Star Systems
7 Inhabited Planets
Capital System: Delos
Population: 9,352,000,000
A group of planets settled by the Earth Government about 150 years ago, and was the destination of mass immigration during the first five decades of its founding. 60 years ago, inequality of income distribution during its years of rapid growth eroded the stability of a government already hard pressed by problems due to continued immigrated. Thus the old Athenian League government fell within the time span of a week into a socialist government that informally gravitated to Communism. Although initially benevolent, this new Communist government gradually enacted harsher policies in a period marked by internal strife. When the dust is settled, Communism became merely a tool for the Athenian League to expand its influence to neighboring nations.
Due to wide availability of human labor, as well as the ideological opposition from the Communist Government, the automation technology in the Athenian League is less advanced. This results in a significantly lower per-capita industrial output than that of New Eden. However, due to an early effort to expand its merchant fleet, Athenian League gained experience building larger ships. They now have the most advanced shipbuilding techniques in this part of the universe.
40 years ago, the Athenian Navy was disrupted by upheavals in the political sphere. There had been purges, assassinations, and appointments to military position due to political favors. With talents lost, and incompetent people in their place, the Athenian Military doctrine and hardware was a jumbo of confusion that is the chaos of that era. Much of the order had been restored in the military, but still bulk of the Athenian warships in service today still bear the legacy of those years. Athens The government has put much effort into improving the hardware the doctrines since. Athenian Navy is currently the largest force, numerically, in the sector.
Socialist Republics of New Cairo and Ruben
2 Star Systems
3 Inhabited Planets
Capital System: Wilson for New Cairo, Ceres for Ruben
Population: 114,000,000
These are two star systems near the Athenian League that had undergone their own revolution and civil wars 5 years in the past. Revolutionary forces on these worlds received help from the Athenians, and immediately requested Athenian military protection after their success. These two republics had more or less been administered by Athens since, and there are talks of further integration into the League and even of annexation, which many fear would disrupt the balance of power in the sector.
Earth Alliance
95 Star Systems
130 Inhabited Planets
Capital System: Sol
Population: 182,756,000,000
Earth Alliance consists of many, many old colonies of earth, banded under a loose central government. Although developed beyond the extent of any nations in its peripheral, its planets are plagued by social problems caused by overcrowding and pollution.
The Earth Alliance maintains a formidable space force that they rarely send beyond its own boarders. Being the sole superpower in the known space, it does not actively seek to expand its borders, because in its eyes, the known universe is its own backyard, and the reluctance of small nations like New Eden to declare their allegiance merely mean that it saves the Alliance the burden of direct administration.
