History

The Luytean Order are a group of long forgotten "Last Chancers" when a nano plague was sweeping across human Confederacy space. The plague itself devastated the Confederacy worlds and everything on and around them. As a last ditch attempt, the Confederacy government had sent a group of colonists deep into the uncharted areas of the lower galactic plane. The plague was dealt with eventually, however because the Confederacy's FTL communications infrastructure was completely crippled, there was no way to recall the colonists. As the Coalition started on its road to recovery, all records of these Last Chancers was lost and eventually no one knew they existed at all.
Several hundred years after said plague was eradicated, the colonists return. Now they were known as the Order of Luyten 132. Their movement back into old Confederacy space was peaceful and non confrontational, taking unoccupied worlds and gas giants. however accompanying their return was a solemn message that was broadcasted on all frequencies.

"The Enslavers, they approach from the depths of space, if you wish to survive, leave."

The origin of such a message stems back to their darkest days. The colonists (henceforth known as Luyteans) that had been sent off as a last hope for humanity's survival, arrived in a system known as Luyten. They flourished for three hundred years, rapidly expanding their grasp on uncharted territory, all the while discovering many extinct civilizations. These dead races provided the Luyteans with advanced technology. Such examples include their FTL drives, weapons and defensive technologies. Centuries of unhindered expansion lead them to believe that they were the only ones in the immediate sector of space. However, quite suddenly, they started losing their outer colonies. The 'Enslavers' had once again returned to eradicate the races in this region of space and will stop at nothing until this goal is met. The Leader of the Luyteans at the time (whose name has been lost to antiquity) ordered the construction of 14 planet vessels to carry all the Luyteans back to Old space. In the years that it took to build these ships, the Luytean Navy suffered immeasurable losses as they fought to buy as much time as possible. When the Enslavers finally arrived at Luyten Prime, they enacted an orbital bombardment on the planet, this time destroying the planet completely. Horrified at the destruction of the their homeworld, the rest of the Luyteans fled. The planet vessels, now crammed with people and whatever resources and manufacturing capability it could carry set off on an Exodus back to Old Space.

The Exodus was long and in that time the people was decided that the government managing the planet ships were useless and ultimately unable to placate the population. Only the timely intervention of religious leader Phybos Ridates stopped the population from rising up and toppling the current institution. Phybos, seeing the the unrest brewing, declared that the planet ships should be ruled through religion and that a circle of select members will now see to the populations needs, promising swift and quick action to any problem that might arise. Surprisingly, the people of the planet ships all approved of this new form of government and immediately adopted it. From then on the Luyteans have been locked in a Theocratic system, ruled by the Inner Circle.

The Exodus Fleet hops from one system to the next, making its slow progress toward old Coalition space. They stopped only occasionally to strip mine asteroids or to extract gas from Gas Giants before moving on again. All the while developing their technology, fleet and their new society in the hopes of possibly reclaiming their home system. They have continued their 'system hopping' until the present day, where upon they decided that they had the strength to resist the Enslavers and steeled themselves for the coming conflict.

The Inner Circle
The Inner Circle is the ruling body of the Luytean people. They are a secretive group managing their people from afar, handling the religious side of their society as well as the military aspects. They represent the religion and are the defenders of the Luyteans. The Inner Circle consists of ten members, known as Masters. Each commands a fleet of ships, responsible for the location of new planets, defense of the migrant fleet and the management of their planet ships.

The first three masters, Phybos, Scyllon and Pyrias, command the Exodus fleets, the only remaining military fleets from the early days of their Exodus and are thus entitled to the best ships and technology available. They are often also the only ones to contact other species and races for diplomatic reasons. However because of the abundant new races that now populate regions of old space, other Master have also been tasked with diplomatic duties.

Technology

FTL travel

The Order's form of FTL travel is known as the Kepler Drive. The system consists of tachyon particle emitter and a field generator. Firstly the particle emitter will fire a concentrated string of tachyons ahead of the traveling vessel. This tachyon beam is manipulated in such a way so that it splits apart the dimensional membranes separating real and sub space. The resulting gap offers an entry point to the condensed dimension which allows for FTL travel. However because of the inherently volatile nature of subspace, a defensive barrier must be created to protect the ship. The Kepler Field is the solution, it defends the transiting ships from the powerful tidal forces in subspace, thus preventing it from being ripped apart. The destination is calculated by the onboard AI and visualized on a display. Because the Kepler Field can only be maintained so long by the any ship's reactors, it is not possible at this time to jump from one end of the galaxy to the other. The only option is to jump short distances, recharge engines and jump again. Despite the reliability of such drive systems, there have been some occasions in while the Kepler field has failed and resulted in the destruction of some ships. One example was the tragedy that befell planet ship Vindictus. Mid transit, the planet ship's Kepler field lost integrity, the ship started to tear apart because of the tidal forces. However, the navigator onboard was able to successfully pull the planet ship out, back into real space. unfortunately, this left them stranded between systems and without resources. Their current status is unknown. 
Military Technology


Beam Technology

The mainstay of the Luytean's arsenal is their highly developed and refined beam cannons. They use manipulated magnetic fields to shape and propel plasma at targets with devastating results. These weapons cannot be fired continuously however, due to the limited amount of plasma that can be stored. This has led to various attempts to increase the duration of the beam by creating such system as the Rapid Charge Regeneration mechanisms, which forcefully divert reactor plasma into beam batteries. The Order has several beam variants such as rapid firing, sustained, or orbital bombardment. All of which are just variants of a the beam technology.
Mind Machine Interface

The Mind Machine Interface is a device implanted into the Master upon their induction into the Inner Circle. The interface itself allows the Master to more easily control his or her ship and with a much quicker response time. This is essential as they are often the ones that lead others into battle. The use of this interface also allows to process a much greater amount of information in battle and to quickly assess the situation without the need for bridge staff. Accompanying the interface system is also a large amount of automation on a Master's ship, which frees up manpower for use on other warships. The degree of Interface implantation differs from Master to master, however it is well known that the Supreme Master Phybos is almost entirely mechanical with his brain and heart (the heart there for purely symbolic reasons) being the only two organic components. Because his entire body is the interface, when Supreme Master Phybos interfaces with his ship, he essentially becomes the vessel. The application of this technology is very dangerous to the individual receiving it, the implantation could leave permanent disfigurement or in some cases lead to death, however because it is treated as a mark of initiation into the Inner Circle, all potential Masters are willing to go through the procedure.
Deflectors

Deflector technology was among those discovered in various alien ruin sites. They form the backbone of the Luytean Order's hull defense on all ships and in their ground forces. The deflectors perform their defensive tasks by energizing the area around a selected hull area to such a point that nothing can penetrate this field. How this field leaves the actual hull of the ship unscathed remains, at the moment, a mystery. However research in its mechanisms that govern the functionality of these devices have allowed the engine smiths of the Order to scale the size of the deflectors. Due to the tremendous amount of energy needed to power these deflectors, it is impossible to keep the field up indefinitely. Therefore deflectors must be switched on and off in order to allow energy reserves to build up again. The smallest deflectors in use are on the Knight light cavalry mech, while the the largest ones are on the Planet ships.

Ground Warfare


When the need for taking ground targets rather than obliterating them from orbit. The Master in charge of the fleet will sortie the Luytean ground combat attachment. These troops make extensive use of bipedal Warmachines to charge and stun the enemy before they realize what is happening. The foot soldiers of the Luytean Ground Forces also make use of advanced power armor, to better protect themselves from enemy fire.

The Knight Light Cavalry Mech

The Knight serves as vanguard for most ground expeditions. Fast and agile they depend on speed and maneuverability to survive engagements. Armed with the Polarity light pulse beam rifle, they are capable of engaging lightly armored vehicles and power armored infantry. Should any hostile manages to get within the pulse rifle's dead zone, the Knights resort to using their draconite alloy hands to smash them to pieces. While unsuited to attacking armored vehicles such as tanks, the hands are very capable of reducing many foot soldiers to a bloody mess. The Knight is also the only light mech to feature the smallest deflector array to date, however since the deflector requires enormous amounts of energy to power, it is only used sparingly.
