Kaiyanae Mercenary Corporation Datafiles

Post by Arcalane »

Name: K.M.C. / Kaiyanae Mercenary Corporation
Government Structure: Monarchy/Dictatorship/Stratocracy. The KMC is lead by a sole being who, as their life comes to an end, elects a successor from several candidates put forth by the Advising Council.
Leader: Currently unknown. Rumours suggest there is no leader. KMC activity has been low, potentially due to internal strife.
Currency: None, but they'll accept anything that's widespread enough.
Number of systems controlled: 1 solar system officially
Number of planets controlled: 1 main world, 3 colonies, 1 ringworld.
Rough Population Estimate: Unconfirmed.

The history and roots of the KMC are hidden and forgotten by many. This is, after all, how they prefer it.

What is known is that whilst the KMC are primarily a mercenary corporation, they are entirely self-sufficient. They make and sell several lines of civilian and military grade personal defense hardware that would put some of the most professional manufacturers to shame. They constantly strive to keep ahead of the competition, and are not above making use of their own extensive military force to stamp out the more overconfident enemies.

Their official home base is a bizarre one to say the least. A seven-planet system hidden deep within a volatile field of intertwining nebulae which is riddled with defenses, mines, and frequent patrols. The system itself is located within a clearing within the cluster, and is said to be quite the sight to behold. The system composition is as follows;

Code: Select all

Sun - Humaduce - Zogue (Colony - Mining) - "Centrifuge" (Ringworld) - "Eden" (Main World) - Neyla (Colony - Mining) - Axis (Gas Giant) - Mangalore (Colony - Mining)
The system's star burns brighter and hotter than most, rendering Humaduce a scorched ball of rock.

Zogue is a minor mining colony, uninhabitable due to the fact it is tidally locked to the star. The light side experiences well above boiling temperatures, and the dark side could flashfreeze you if you stepped outside without a 'suit; even then, suits are not suited for prolonged exposure.

Centrifuge is an ancient construct, incomprehensibly ancient and covered in the ruins of an equally ancient civilization. Much of the ringworld has been preserved, and several areas reconstructed. Whilst it is inhabited by the KMC, vast amounts of it remain undisturbed. In most cases, the existing architecture was simply refurbished and reused - be it for habitation, training areas, or factories. It is said that Centrifuge is the reason for the KMC's unusual surplus of fleet craft and it's massive manufacturing capabilities as well as some of it's advanced teechnologies. No investigators have ever managed to get close enough to the system to examine this in detail. A day/night cycle is simulated with giant "shades" that rotate on a ring above the surface. Semi-transparent materials provide a smooth transition from day to night, alleviating any concerns about unnatural cycles, and a day on Centrifuge is 25% longer than a Terran day (30 hours), and it's gravity is marginally stronger than that of Earth's, making it an excellent choice for training.

Eden is an unusual planet. Thanks to the increased warmth of it's star and a slightly increased greenhouse effect, it is well-named; the planet is almost perfect. It seems to have been inhabited by the same beings who inhabited the ring. It is theorized that they brute-force terraformed "Eden" for those who preferred life on planetary surfaces. Occasionally, Eden passes behind Centrifuge; these periods occur twice a year and often last several days, plunging Eden into a planet-wide midnight. Whilst they last, they are frequently used for extended night-time training sessions due to the lack of available light. Eden is more Earth-like in it's rotation and gravity. Still-functional terraforming machines left behind by the ancient inhabitants regulate the temperature and ensure that Eden does not accidentally slide into an ice age.

Neyla is a small, cool planet used mostly for mining and refuelling. It's gravity is abnormally low, so all KMC operatives spend some time training on Neyla to become used to fighting in low-to-zero-gravity conditions.

Axis is the largest natural planet in the system, and is mined for helium-3, unsurprisingly.

Finally, Mangalore is not technically a planet, but it is one of Axis' largest moons, and is the home of the He-3 refineries, which (obviously) refine and filter the He-3 brought in by gas mining craft before pressurizing it and shipping it to the inner worlds.
