Origins

The Zilarians are an aggressive people that clawed there way to space flight multiple times but receded and lost that knowledge due to an inability to maintain a lasting peace between the many disparate nations.

Salvation

Eventually a group know for their high IQ went underground to escape the fighting and started developing a nano-virus that would genetically modify all Zilarians to be less aggressive, and more likely to fit in a team role.

Alas, they were discovered and killed by a tribe thinking that these utana [outsiders] were creating a biological weapon. They fortunately left the lab intact and the automatic robotic cleaning and repair units kept the lab in working condition.

Over the centuries the Zilarian continued to fight and make no technological advancements past the equivalent of tribal barbarianism. Slow tribes began to have a higher average IQ and some of the smarter ones started finding the location of the lab.

Eventually a group found there way to the lab and managed to complete work on the virus of the course of 29 centuries. They released their virus and it is said:

"The people looked up, as if a veil had been lifted from there eyes. They saw there bloody ways and cast aside there weapons."

This was the great Salvation.
