The woman clad in all black stood up. "I have a science-class AI in my backpack, I have a large gun on my hip and I am now commandeering this shuttle. Moira; please ensure that our receiving vessel is prepared for hot entry as I haven't the slightest clue as to how to pilot a shuttle."

A small chuckle escaped Lysa's tight grin.

This is better than Just For Laughs - Solar. Six people. One Project. Nobody has a FUCKING CLUE OF WHAT IS GOING ON. I can't believe how friggin ignorant this Moira person is of people threatening to shoot others.

She loosened the strap on her holdout blaster and set it for stun. On second thought, she upped it to a barely unlethal level. Looking around the room, she noticed that a woman to her right didn't have any weapons nor armor. She sidled over.

"Put the fucking gun down. Who do you think you are." Lysa said it with a tired voice and expression. "If everybody is done being a fucking idiot, we can get on with this." If a shoot out occurs, I think I'd be much safer with a shuttle in the way of me and this idiot. Plus, Mr. War Veteran is over there. Lysa whispered to Allison. "Come. It'll be better for everyone if we head into the shuttle."

--------------------

OOC: It has not been 2 fucking days since we entered the room. We're not going on RL time, we're going on time based on the frequency of posts. If I had to guess, I'd say we were in the room for ten minutes at the most. It doesn't take that long for people to say stuff. Later on, the RP will rapidly increase in pace. This is just a important time, as it will have a big impact on the rest of the RP.

OOC: H.K is right. You haven't been in there very long. Time passes fairly slowly, but will be sped along where necessary (like the transit to the Newton and the flight through to the NZ) like any other adventure or RPG. ;)

With a hiss the doors slide apart.

"Excellent work, HAL !"

That wasn't me. Have you even been listening to the conversation behind you ? Someone had a gun to your head !

"The time for such trivialties are over. Activate the COM."

"Attention everyone who has not previously held me at gun point ! We are leaving this god forsaken shuttle bay right now, so the next words you say will be made while you are inside the god forsaken shuttle, rocketing down to the planet or conveniently wrapped up in some plot twist !"

The shuttle was sparse to say the least; devoid of all possible additions to say the most. The seats, however; were were padded with the finest memory foam.

"Aah."

That man is still glaring at you. What if he tries to shoot you in your sleep ?

"You have full permission to take control of this suit and shoot him right back.

Aye !

How that AI manages to make shooting fun I will never know. Maybe a little nap will help ... zzz ...

Edit: OOC, I know that it hasn't been two days. I just tend to rip out my blaster and destroy the fourth wall whenever it seems humourous.

Lysa climbed into the cockpit and instantly recognized the control layout. Locating the main controls, she proceeded to run through the startup checklist. Systems started whirring, lights flickered, and the control panel sprung to life. Power Core, 100.63%. Good, good. Sublight Drive, 98.35%. Hmm... I'm gonna have to see what I can do about that. I want it atleast at 103%. Hyperdrive, 100%. Ahh, brand spanking new. Gonna have to fix that too. Vital systems, 101.48%. Atleast they expect us to have some decency. Lysa ran through a few more stats. Estimated ship efficiency: 100.97%. Not too bad... everything is more or less good.

Lysa called back through the cockpit corridor. "All systems are check. If everybody can finish boarding the ship, I'd like to go now. Taking off in T minus six hun- er, five minutes. I want everybody down and strapped."

Alyson entered the shuttle, and looking at the others, decided to go up into the cockpit. The pilot, Lysa, was already strapped into the pilot's seat and running system checks. Allison sat down in the copilot/navigator's seat and said "If you don't mind, I don't think sitting back there is going to be a great idea. I can navigate, operate these sensors, and work the guns if need be, so I'm not completely useless in the cockpit."

Lysa glanced over at the woman. "Heh, no problem. It's fine by me. I wouldn't take my eye off of them for as quick as I could space them. Actually..."

Lysa hit a few buttons and one of the side displays changed to a view of the cabin area. Everybody seemed to be calming down.

"There. Now, what did you say your name was? I'd love to actually have a bit of conversational refuge from the tension that seems to be following us."

"Cccrrrhh ... hooo ... Ccccrrhh ... hoo-"

Soldier ! Snap to attention !

"... ooo ..."

This is not a playground ! This is not daycare ! We are the Marines, you will stand at attention !

Aye, aye sir !

You have been volunteered into this mission for one reason : you are the best we've got. You've trained and you've fought harder than any other recruit in the division - and here's your reward.

Our contacts within the IPPF have informed us of a low-key meeting dubbed 'Aurora'. We are uncertain as to your security during this mission, and as such a mandatory memory blanking will be req-

"GyaH !"

A ringing slowly faded out of my perception.

Are you alright ? Focus on the red dot.

Huh. A little dot. Never seen that befor-

"GYAH !"

Sorry for the flash; I needed to check your cornea. You were suffering some sort of trauma in your sleep - your vitals were through the roof. 'Remember what you dreamed about ?

"N-no. Can't remember. Probably just a nightmare."

"I'm Captain Allison Raevis, 7th Parachute infantry, Terran Marines. I'm not really a front-line fighter though, or at least I haven't been for years. I'm a military xenologist and negotiator, they drop me in when there's something strange with the living things, or when we've got to work with the locals that may not always be too enthusiastic."

As she was talking, Allison looked over the control panel in front of her. It was a fairly standard design, nothing too exotic, and the electronic displays had a couple presets, which Allison quickly changed to her own personal preferences. On front of her appeared a holographic HUD with a comm window, sensor readouts, internal systems status, and basic flight instruments. She hadn't trained on shuttles for a while, but they were designed to be easy to learn and fly, so Allison wasn't too worried.

Looking over to the pilot, Allison said "I gathered your name is Lysa, correct? Where are you from?"

Lance just...fell asleep. Shuttle launches were always boring to him.

Then suddenly...he was in hell. Ashes, lava, the heat, the bullets flying.....

Syrtis V. His squad and four other fire-teams were defending Nav Point Beta- Hell's Gate. A column of hostile infantry supported by a single tank was moving through it- and to the City. They would pillage it and kill everyone. Colonel Dracken wouldn't let that happen- at least not while the Watchmen lived.

"This is BULLSHIT! 30 men to a bloody infantry column and a damn tank!" GySgt. Balir shouted.

Lance remembered. They were in a fortified ambush position. They had the defensive advantage. He was trying to kill a tank. He fired.

The rocket slammed straight into the tank. The whole thing blew up from inside, sending debris and dead crewmen all over the place. ATRUM was registering the kills. The tank didn't even get to deploy its' deadly twin-fire-linked 40mm Siege Cannons.

"We got 'em! All squads open fire!" Balir was shouting... then-

"Wakey. We won that one. God bless Balir's soul, though. Concentrate on the task at hand." ATRUM.

"Mmhm....'snot my fault that Shuttles are boring...Here's hoping we get a hot-drop."

Blanche followed everyone else onto the shuttle calmly and took a seat, her expression one of impassive neutrality. She had almost lost her cool for a moment back there, barely able to restrain herself from disarming the two idiots waving their fire-arms around and clubbing them in the face with their own guns, but she had succeeded, instead watching with the calm and detached demeanor of a disinterested predator.

Now she buckled herself in and closed her ice blue eyes, taking a deep breath and raising a hand to brush a few stray strands of silver hair from her face, taking the opportunity to relax. She had a feeling things down on the surface of the planet wouldn't be nearly as peaceful.

OOC: This is Government hardware, so stop trying to fucking hack everything in sight. It will not automatically work and technically is autohitting/godmodding.

In other words, you can try (ie; "Kyle starts trying to hack his way into the security network.") but you must wait for my word before proceeding and actually doing anything.

OOC: Aww, when have I actualy 'hacked' anything ? The earlier attempts to dig up information on other entrants would have come up with the exact same information given in the sign-up thread. That time I just wanted a scapegoat on which to place my character's knowledge of the other characters.

The second time (a request to open the shuttle) was not met immediately. I waited until you opened the door, never explicitly saying that I had done it either (you'll note HAL's reaction). So I'm sorry about any misunderstandings that may have stemmed from that.

Temujin looks at the people entering the shuttle, watvhing as 2 go the cockpit, the rest sit down. He pulls out his datapad and starts a small brain puzzle, called Graviton, involving finding and using a graviton to do something, digitally.

He remembers that day very well.

" Do you Temujin Nivarra promise to uphold what we have taught you? To use your knowledge of the graviton for neither good nor evil, only for knowledge? To never sell this information to others, no matter the cost? And above all, to not let others use this information for random instructions?", the teacher had said.

" I... I... I do not.", Temujin had replied.

" I am very dissapointed in you. And you already know everything I can teach you... You will have to die you know.", was the reply.

Temujin replied with a gunshot.

A great man had died that day. No witnesses, not recordings, but still. It was only the first death. There had been others as well, those in the line of fire however. The Draconis Pilots, the Sylophate Imperium, the Gnrosian Outbreak. He could see them all die in his mind.

He finished the game, and then began working on his newest project involving the graviton.

Y'know what I do when I'm bored, Bebop ?

"If it were physicaly possible for an AI to experience boredom I still wouldn't want to know."

I screw with peoples' very minds.

"... okay, you've piqued my interest."

Glad to have done so. See, a couple dozen years ago, back in the 'ol labs, I took to cracking the local 'web feed. As it turns out, I became involved in a conspiracy over the 'graviton'.

"Oh yeah. I remember reading something about that before. Snake oil of the new millenium, right ?"

I knew I was good, but comparing it to snake oil ? I guess I may well make it into the history books.

"Wait ! You started that whole debacle ?! Entire cults were formed around the 'graviton', billions of dollars were spent attempting to produce the thing and ... and you're the one behind it all ?"

Yep. Interesting to know, no ? Ah, but I can't take all of the credit - I did base the 'Graviton-Game' off of an ancient, Earth relic.

"And what would that be ?"

Pong.

"Shuttle is ready for departure, sir."
"Launch 'em."

--

Suddenly, all displays on the shuttle were replaced with a countdown. The doors snapped shut, and a second set sealed behind them. The automated seatbelts ensured everyone was buckled in whether they liked it or not, and a low but rapidly growing hum could be heard in the background.

The computer calmly stated "Stasis Launch Cannon firing in Ten."

"Nine."

"Eight."

The hum grew louder, and the crew's extremities began to go numb.

"Seven."

"Six."

"Five."

"Four."

The hum was almost deafening, but by the time it'd reached that point, the entire crew were practically paralyzed.

"Three."

"Two."

Oh, and did I mention they'd be unconcious by now? Oh, well... nevermind, eh?

"One." it calmly stated as a low *FOOM* announced the launch of the shuttle.

The shuttle shot out of the launch mechanism and off into space, crew in suspended animation.

~~TIMESKIP~~

By the time everyone'd come to, the shuttle was already dropping towards Ikari XV on a hard and fast approach, apparently during the evening at Ikari XV, the sun low and red in the sky. Moira's soothing voice came over the speakers.

"I apologise for the unorthodox delivery, but we couldn't risk you trying to hijack the shuttle. You're now on a fast approach to the drop site, and the shuttle's computer will guide you in and can't be overridden."

There was a *foomph* as the Shuttle passed through a thick bank of clouds.

"However, once the shuttle hits the deadzone height, the parachutes will deploy automatically, which'll drop you the rest of the way safely. It's the only method we can rely on until the field is disabled. For now, sit back and enjoy the view."

Moira disappeared and the screens displayed their usual information, as well as a rapidly dropping altimeter.

Then all the screens froze and the display flashed red.

[WARNING: TARGET LOCK DETECTED. COUNTERMEASURE FIELD ACTIVE]

What were apparently several missiles could be seen streaking up towards the shuttle. But as soon as they got within 50 meters of the shuttle, there was a flash and they crumpled like tinfoil. It seems the Gravitic Missile Defense System worked nicely.

[LOCK BROKEN. NO MORE SEEKERS DETECTED. COUNTERMEASURES OFFLINE.]

OOC Bwhahaha. Psych! /OOC

They returned to the altimeter display. The projected deadzone height was rushing up to meet them (or were they rushing down to meet it?) as the altimeter decreased.

Suddenly, the deadzone hit them. Or they hit the deadzone. There was another *foomph* and the entire shuttle shook, it's dampeners fizzing out as the screens and lights went out. Fortunately, the light from Ikari's star lit the cabin, and the seatbelts snapped away into their housings as the shuttle decelerated.

The base wasn't very far away now, the shuttle slowly wobbling it's way down towards it. There was a soft hum and several clicking noises, then a *spung!* noise as a panel shot off the shuttle's dashboard, coincidentially smacking one of the unwitting crew in the face.

"*kssschk*...this is a recording from Moira. We anticipated that *chrrk* the deadzone would *fffzt* be unable to catch an old 20th century Terran tape recor-*fffzzzzzt*-er. If you're hearing this, good. The doors are *kkrrk* backed up with hydraulics and jettison bolts. The *ffffzt* green button will use the hydraulics, but if they don't work, the red button will blow the doors off. Good luck. *fscht* Moira out."

The tape recorder went dead as the shuttle dropped the last few meters, then settled down onto some kind of concrete-like substance with a soft thud.

Looks like you made it down in one piece.

Now what? ;)
