Another Intelligence person! This will be interesting... interesting, indeed. Perhaps too interesting. *shifty eyes* .. Anyway. Hope this goes awesomely.

(A note: The Slizerkai are a species I've been conceptualizing for .. a week or so now, and I've done my best to balance their manipulation abilities. They're not capable of strengthening their bones to above steel levels, but they can get pretty damn hard. Additionally, they're limited in where they can do major works with it, due to fatigue, whereas something simple like a piercing or slashing weapon wouldn't so much as bother them. I tried to make it far from a fantasy race, being as the Slizerkai are extremely militant, organized, and advanced. To the point of black hole-style quantum manipulation from a sword. They're also very traditionalist, and have a strict code of honor. This means one couldn't simply walk into Mordor. It means that killing isn't really something they do often, though they take great pleasure in the act. They're sadistic creatures.

tl;dr: Slizerkai aren't unbalanced.)

Personnel file wrote:(Nick) Name/Callsign: Bebop.
Age: "Oh sure, you threaten to do that no- ... but I'm your frien-... okay fine, I'll record something else. Just pray they never audit your record.
Gender: Female.
Species/Race: Human.
Occupation: Contract "Negotiations" Specialist.
Rank: N/A.

~~
Height (with suit): ~5" 7'
Build (with suit): Slim, but artificial muscle tissue exaggerates muscle mass when active.
Traits/Colouration: Vaguely caucasian face; years of space-faring has degraded racial boundaries.

Suit is matte black with traces of reptilian scales patterning (viewable upon extremely close inspection). Blue-green 'veins' of system gels give the appearence of phospherescence under most lighting conditions. Feels like foam along non-muscle enforced areas. Reinforced areas are composed of many layers of 'string' laying parallel to the skin (for the record, these puff up when active). Below is simply more foam. Matte-grey backpack made of metal (as opposed to the almost neoprene like normal suit) lies low on back; contains main components of AI (practicaly indestructable and impermeable material; fairly heavy as a result). Similarily matte-grey suit-controllers are found along most major muscle groups; two for both upper arms, two for both upper legs, two boots (alternating lights and metal on soles, controls traction/suction), two gauntlets (contains display screens and rudimentary, manual input). 'Helmet' is composed of multiple articulating parts on the jaw that connect to solid plating on the sides and back. A metal visor, upon which relevent information is projected, can descend from the jaw to top of head. This holds the jaw immobile to prevent injury in event of trauma.

The torso is partialy covered by a plate, made of the aforemented material, that has a strip under which system gels are cleansed, manufactured and reloaded with nutrients. This is a vital system, but also very sturdy - it doubles as a kevlar vest, and though damage is repaired fairly quickly, even momentary loss prevents proper suit functions.

A rebreather rated for thirty minutes is also included. Though based on biological sources (bacteria in particular), the system is less efficient than its chemical alternatives. In other words, it slowly releases more CO2 into the atmosphere making it slowly more poisonous.

The 'foam' is actualy a living system. It is composed of cells approximating human skin, yet significantly more durable (can deflect blades), heat resistant and can regenerate at high speed (genetic code is highly resistant to mutation). Nutrients and electricaly-based commands sent through the system gels. In the event of environmental extremes exceeding the limits of the skin, excess waste or energy can be dumped directly into system gels as opposed to being processed slower (and more efficiently). The upshot of this is that heat or electrical energy can be dumped directly into an alternate conduit that can be treated or expelled (generaly the suit-controllers).

Because of this, the suit-controllers can withstand extreme heat, nuclear, electrical, physical shock and are vacuum resistant (as is the remainder of the suit when the helmet is shut). The system gel can withstand heat up to 250 C without causing a breach due to violent state-change. Air pressure is maintained via mechanical action of the artificial muscle tissue (which shares the same traits as the skin) which can either be positive in the case of a vacuum, or negative in the case of water pressure (significantly worse in this respect - leaps and bounds ahead of present day SCUBA, but drastic changes in pressure will cause sickness or potential system breach).

~~
Abilities/Training: Diving, EVA activities aboard the Esprit-class vessel Maiyuki, versed in use of small arms - generaly carries an electric pistol, enough CQC to get by, can pilot most Earth-based vehicles (and many more with AI support), good at interrogation.

Oh, and she's a negotiator, so a little bit of ambassador stuff too.

Possessions: Electric pistol.

~~

AI Information: The AI learns quickly. Very quickly. Using a neural-network based off of the human brain, as well as the occasional direct interaction between the user, it also adapts quickly. Similar to how a child learns, the AI can assemble a veritable manual for practicaly any system it views in operation. It was originaly designed for space-craft level deployment, aiding science teams in comprehension and providing basic military aid in the event that dedicated systems go offline.

Finaly, it can translate from most languages, but not to them. Those that it does not come pre-loaded with can be learned on the fly.

Background: First comissioned by Raithah Corp. Research & Development as an exploratory aid; RRD-3301 (S) performed fabulously. A little too fabulously for the military-oriented organization, which quickly boosted the capabilities up to ship-board level to aid in the commanding of large armadas easily.

Thirteen years later, massive leaps in the comprehension of brain tissue has resulted in miniturised computational systems approaching the capabilities of warships. The tech is still extremely expensive, so the only way to get a sample is to either pay a couple billion in comissions or get hired.

The AI onboard Bebop's system, which has an odd sense of humor, named itself Hal for some reason. Though it is advanced far beyond requiring so, it prefers to interact though text projected either on the gauntlets or over the HUD (which is actualy a projected image of the outside world on the inside of the helmet - it's opaque, you remember).

~~
Edit: That was a nice wall of text, if you want a concise version with just the abilities, I'll write it up tomorrow upon request.

Edit2: I'll just do it now :D. Basicaly it's an environment suit, some fancy boots, an AI backpack and an intimidating helmet. Veerrry intimidating.

The artificial muscle tissue doesn't increase strength or anything; it simply takes the stress off of the rest of the body when activated. It decreases fatigue.

Two little points I'd like to put in, if that's okay too :). A boosted immune system integrated into the suit and a little camoulfage (Cuttlefish-like). Here's hoping I get in.

I am wondering just how many people who have tried signing up so far have even BOTHERED reading what I've been posting about combat. There will not be a lot of it and you will not be needing heavy weaponry.

Nevermind that a giant ant is physically and biologically impossible.
Arcalane wrote:Biologically is another matter. If you stick strictly to the same breathing mechanisms, etc. as an ant, then it is still impossible.

Also, considerable differences in environment (higher atmospheric oxygen and higher temperatures) play a big role in survival.
That work for ya?

To solve this issue ONCE AND FOR ALL. By heavy weapon mount I am refering to the TRANSPORT of the weapon to and from fights, much like horse drawn cannon. Also, if you check possestions he doesn't have a heavy gun with him. This is all just BACKSTORY.

As for survival, ants are found on nearly EVERY continent and in all sorts of climate. Also, he's an alien speicies so doesn't need to obey earth animals. Thirdly, what part of sci-fi allows giant 'Aliens' which are insects, and forbids enlarged ants on the ground of it being inplausible?

Biology. Scifi or no scifi, the current way in which ants operate - nay, survive - in these conditions is not effective once the ant is moved from the "modern" scale (ie, tiny) to a "giant" scale;

"Ant bodies, like other insects, have an exoskeleton, an external covering that provides a protective casing around the body and a place to attach muscles, in contrast to the internal skeletal framework of humans and other vertebrates. Insects do not have lungs, but oxygen and other gases like carbon dioxide pass through their exoskeleton through tiny valves called spiracles."

Whilst this is a perfectly fine way of breathing when you're only a few millimeters long, when you're scaled up to 8ft or so, things get a lot more complicated and you start needing a much more complex physiology to cope with breathing and so on.

Also, there's the 8ft long thing, which is really inconvenient as the shuttle won't have much in the way of a cargo bay. There's also the distinct lack of detail compared to most of the other submissions so far.

--

Raithah; Looks good so far. Boosted immune system and camo acceptable - but it will only be active when you've been pressed up against an object, wall or surface for at least a few seconds. Sound fair?

--

All of the rest of you;

Feel free to add Personality: and History: fields and data to your character sheets.

Alright then. Alien biology means that the insides aren't the same as earth ants.

Edit- How much space will this transport have?

Okay, Da_Higg, I'm going to tell you what I think Arcalane's been trying to say, but you do not seem to be getting. Perhaps he hasn't been being monosyllabic enough for your to comprehend him. I don't know. Either way...

Your character is shit. Not just bad. Shit. You put no effort into it, what-so-ever. Zero, zilch, zip, nothing, none. Hell, you weren't even creative enough to give it a god-damn name. Your character hasn't been approved, and I doubt it's going to be approved, because all it is is a giant motherfucking space ant, with no name, no personality, and no creativity.

And that is why Arcalane isn't approving the character. Or at least, that's why I wouldn't approve the character, if I were in his place. Maybe the biology scaling is all that bothers him, in which case your "IT'S ALIEN BIOLOGY!!!11!!11shiftone!" hand-wavium nonsense will probably get your character approved. I doubt it, though.

Arcalane: Are the personality and history fields a requirement? Usually I get a better feel for a character's past and personality when I just start playing and see what happens. So, if it's not required, I'll not do it. If it is, then I will, because this looks like it's going to be fun. :D

In my experience it works surprisingly well, and I'm not about to censor myself or my opinions any more than is necessary to prevent myself from being banned. I pointed out what I percieved to be the problem. Sure, I was more aggressive than what might be considered necessary, but I do that to add emphasis. If there's a single invalid or incorrect statement in my post, I'd be glad to hear about it.

I do not have a grudge against Da_Higg, any more than I do against Cerebrus, Zone51, derekiv, wonderwhy-er, or anyone else I've chronically abused here. It's just how I do things, when the standard methods of reasonable conversation seem to be insuffient to express the point with the gravity and brevity that it requires.

tl;dr version:
Using insults does not make my posts any more less valid than they other-wise would be. The meat of the post is in the details. The insults are like seasoning.

Imagine them as being like non-mandatory "enter a little bit about yourself" fields.

Also: Doesn't matter if a name is unpronounceable; the field is there for a reason. Unless you want the system to recognize you as "Unpronounceable" for the rest of the game... :P
