Shattered Nation[OOC, Sign Ups]

"Superfreighter Nocturn has arrived in the system Nymph, Star Y located in the Constellation Ursa Major. Message received from Homeworld." The AI voice broke the silence in the bridge, lit only by the consoles, a scene which gave the crew a tense atmosphere.
The Captain sat still for awhile, seemingly waiting for something to occur. He/She tapped their fingers on the intercom activator located on the arm rest of the chair. "Lieutenant, shouldn't you be doing something?" He/She finally spoke.
"Apologies, Captain." The Comm Officer replied, tapping on the console, attempting to reach contact with Homeworld. There was a brief silence before the AI voice appeared again. "Communications with Homeworld has failed to establish."
The Captain raised an eyebrow. It couldn't be a faulty system, as both modules were new and highly advanced. He/she turned to the message, and played it on the holo-sphere, allowing the entire crew in the bridge to hear.
A figure easily recognzied by the Captain, and his crew, appeared in the sphere. The Grand Admiral Alfred Marvil. "Captain, by the time you receive this message, you should be at the first waystation, where orders were sent out to contact us. If communications failed, then Homeworld has fallen. You are to continue on your mission to UE Space. The Korsul Empire is at this moment on your trail, and time must not be wasted. You are the last ship of The Terran Republic, and the Republic's last hope to remain."
The Crew remained silent, shocked by their current situation. Each of them knew that their ship was a mere Civillian Vessel with only a handful or two of Military Personnel. The Ship had obsolete weapon systems, and it was next to defenseless.
"Captain? Your Orders?" The first officer asked.

A few things you need to know about the ship itself.
The Nocturn is a Superfreighter, her crew consists of mainly non-citizens, so loyalty is questionable in the ship, adding on to the scene. The Superfreighter has obsolete weapon systems as stated above, mainly counter-measures, four flak cannons and several point defences.
Feedback on the idea is welcome and appreciated.
You can post your character sheet in any form, so long as you state the basic essentials. (Name, Age, Backstory, Profession, Personality, Appearance.. etc..)
