To the Schkrin Confederacy and all its allies:

The Shadows of Liberty are hereby opening its borders to any and all of your ships, military or civilian.

We recognize the threat of these aliens. We also see the major threat to the Schkrin and their planets. If the situation arises that the Schkrin have to evacuate, we will reserve some of our planets in the Accara System for your use. This offer also stands for any of your allies.

As for military support, we send you a message from Cmdr. Kamizuri, Supreme Commander of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd splinter fleets:

"Unfortunately, most of our ships are docked for routine adjustments. This leaves only part of our offensive fleets ready. However, we can assure you that our planetary defence fleet is operating at full capacity. Sadly, I am not in charge of this fleet, and therefore cannot help you further about this.

If given some time, I could possibly have our fleets ready in about a week's time.

A sudden break of silence enters the Schkrin HQ:

We have a grand break of events: Highly modified plasma torpedoes appear to be able to qucly declaw the war orbs, and obsorb some of it's crstal's potency, oftenly melting the crystal away!

The 8th sector subfleet has been ordered to the Aurora system, armed with experimental antimatter beam prototypes. The sharp pulse of light emitted from an antimatter reaction seems to reflect through the crystal and disrupt the control systems, which we currently haven't identified.

I suggest that other nations take advantage of the refractive properties of the crystal.

Yes, we have noticed the high-yeald plasma cannon or torpedoes do have some effect.
During the initial battle, as the Uriel was keeping the WarOrb occupied while the Judgment Day moved into position, admiral Hawkins noted that the alien weapons and subsystem were taking some small damage.
Note that was was after a few minutes of intense fighting, during which time the WarOrb was constantly under fire by Uriels main Plasma Guns.

We speculate that a small fraction of plasma can actually pass trough the shielding. This fraction is so small that even with the heaviest plasma weapon it would take forever to breach the hull beneath, but the exposed weapons and subsystems are more vulnerable.

Still, it will take a LOT, and we repeat, A LOT of plasma ordinance to disable a section of the War Orb. It's better than nothing, but we do have good news - the shield generators on the alien ships are placed externally with limited protection.
It is possible to bring down a shield segment with plasma weaponry and then proceed to attack the hull beneath.


*EDIT: Isn't it fascinating how EVERYONE seems to be coming up with a new and DIFFERENT weapon to beat these things?

NEN sends a single "Storm" Heavy Plasma Artillery barge to help UN allies and whatnot against the alien menace.

ooc. Tsakara, set your alien ships on flanking AI, they sometimes get stuck with the deflectors on the front.

Battle Progress Broadcast:

26th Hyperion Destroyer group ecountered War Orbs at 18 hundred. Anti-proton beams were quickly trained on one, but another appeared and proceeded to attack while the beams recharged. The drone recorded the light waves bouncing inside the crystal, but it seems to require many beams at once to achieve a stong enough effect to shatter the crystal. However, once cracked, the entire ship explodes violently and unleases a massive pressure wave.

The seond was finally destroyed, but major casualties resulted. Only 7 ships survived.

Mmmm, sorry. One ship was sitting right on top of another and they looked REALLY WIERD. Had to "remove" it, and simulate the damage on a replacement destroyer (using the "remove" function as well).

The supreme overlord of the Vyrax collective has shown interest in this incident due to our homeworld being a gas giant. The same structures have been detected within.

War orbs have also appeared, attacking the Monitor Sacrophage and its defense fleet as it was under construction over Vyraxia 6 and we were unable to destroy the orbs.
Luckily, its jump system was already completed and we managed to save it from destruction. This is a major setback. Estimates suggest that if completed, the Sacrophage's main cannon may be able to destroy the orbs.

We have evacuated our home system and are willing to temporarily ally ourselves with the Terran nations while we combat this threat.

We cannot send any more help for our fleet is stretched too thin due to deploying a Battlegroup to every system with a Gas Giant in our Nation. We are also watching Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, to protect our Ancestral Home.

I have heard that in order to puncture the shield, you have to deal more damage than the target section has health. The ship has a core health of 5000. I have only been able to push the damage of my Warp Cannons to 100 in the latest prototype.

On the other hand, recent tests show that a sufficient number of demeters, while doing no damage to the alien vessel, pacify it and stop it from using its weapons. In light of this, I am pulling back my conventional warships and sending in fleets of Saurian II supercarriers to avoid needless loss of Auriak life. With the alien ships fully distracted and pacified, it would be an easy target for a Judgement Day's superlaser.

Techncly my weapons do roughly the same amount of damage as stock ones. I even leave the ROF the same mostly.
There are only a few exceptions but even they are balanced.
Except for the Uriel and Archangel. The Archy has powerfull (100dgm) front beams and 50 dmg GatLasers, while the Uriel has 200 dmg plasma cannons.
Only the Judgment Days BFB3000 (Big Fuc**** Beam) does 4500 damage.

That demeter thing is a AI bug? I never noticed that..prolly couse I don't use demeters much.


IN CHARACHTER:

The VA thanks the Auiriak for their hep. anything that distracts the Orbs is welecomed news as it can take up to a minute for the FBF3000 cannon to charge.

***ALL OUT BROADCAST***

At 18:85 hours SGT a alien WarOrb attacked the Uriel flagship and it's 2 escorts (a Paladin Mk2 and Crusader Mk2) while they were on-route to the jump point to Antares to randevouzs with the Judgment Day.

The group was forced into combat without the aid of the dreadnought gun.
The titanic battle raged for almost half an hour with a unexpected result - victory!
The VNC Valor and Razor lured the orb into the maximal (and most effective) range of the Uriels Plasma Cannons - a risky manouvre during which the Valour was destroyed with all hands.
The bombardment by the Uriel managed to knock out one of it's deflectors and the WarOrb immediately switched targets and ignored the Razor.
Uriel kept trying to evade the orb while keeping it under constant fire.
After 15 minutes of intense combat the WarOrb was finally declawed and most of it's deflectors were gone. We have scored a decisive victory today.

This finally proves that plasma weapons can indeed be used to counter the aliens, but one word of warning.

The Uriel is our flagship equipped with our best defenseive and offensive technologies. It took more than 20 minutes of constant fire from all of his heavy plasma batteries to destroy the Orb and the flagship was nearly destroyed in the process, taking heavy damage.

We are refitting our warships with as much plasma weaponry as we can and we're trying to improve the potency of already existing ones.
