Yes, ladies and gentlemen. I give you the Death Star.
The product of a dozen sleepless nights, endless tedium and finger-clicking-keyboard-bashing-mind-numbing repition, it is the last SW based ship I will be making for awhile. Himura.Kenshin was right, I'd much rather be doing mundane ships than battlemoons! XD
Special thanks to Natch for designing the super laser. Without his help, what you would have got was an oversized shockbeam instead of the awesome convergence laser that he made. Cheers mate!
I promised cookies for those who guessed right, so cookies for Arcalane!
None for th15, you blabber.
MUST READ INFORMATION for using the Death Star:
Code: Select all
Death Star Super Laser
OPERATOR'S NOTES v1.0
1. Hold "Q" and double-click a Mega Beam on the Focusing Dish to select them all 7 of them.
2. Assign them to a control group.
3. To fire the laser, select the group, hold "X" and right click a location in the general front area of the group to force fire them.
4. If tracking mobile targets, rotate the entire battlestation to sweep the laser.
5. To cease fire, select the control group and press "H". There will be a lengthy delay between pressing "H" and the laser powering down. To resume fire, press H again. Resuming is usually instantaneous.
6. It is advisable to fire the laser only at distant targets. Firing it below optimal range will result in a mis-convergence of the beams, although the target shall still be annihilated.
7. Beware of one man farmboy-piloted starfighters shooting nasty things down exhaust pipes.
Yes, there are many faults with it. For starters, due to distinctly different top and bottom halves, as well as left and right halves, mirroring was not an option, so everything had to be placed manually. The result of this is several placement errors, which I have tried my best to root out and correct. It is also not a perfect circle. (If you see the left and right halves, the 2 "tractor beam" spheres on the right are not the same distance from the core as the 2 on the left) Its parenting its far from perfect; if you shot at the right place, you could destroy one quarter of the outer-ring at one go. The superlaser misconverges upon occasion. And if you would open the blueprint, you would see that 3, if not more, pieces appear to have fallen beyond the shipmaker boundaries. I have no idea what they were or how they ended up there. Oh, and the whole thing weighs in at 1243 pieces. So, before you gleefully run off to load it, take a real good breather and make sure your computer can handle it. If not, there is a stripped down "prototype" bare-bones version, but this is still a whooping 778 pieces. If you wish to strip it down more, you can do so with the blueprints.
DOWNLOADS
Download the Death Star *.shp files
These are the playable ship files for BSF. Inside, you will find 4 files:
*Death Star
*Death Star ST
*Death Star Prototype
*Death Star ST Prototype
The 2 files with the label "ST" are versions of the Death Star that fire "straight", ie horizontally, while the 2 with no label fire the superlaser aligned to the cannon shaft, ie at an angle from the ship's front. The ST version was made so that it'd be easier to estimate and aim the whole thing.
