ASN TACKS Viking

I've put together a couple of hackjobbed systems I've been swishing around in my mind for a while. Feel free to steal them and put them on your own ships or something. Especially the turret shield. That thing is beautiful.

The venerable ASN Viking-class Frigate saw itself in need of improvement after two decades of combat. A service-life extension pack called the TACKS (for Tactical Accessory Kit Set) was unveiled after very little T&E on the ASN Battle Labs' part. It includes various tidbits such as a full AESA Scanner Suite, a new Afterburner system, a supercompact Focused Shield Generator, and the infamous Photometric Targetter, known amongst veterans as the "tactical penlight". Additionally, a significantly darker color scheme is applied.

Since the TACKS system failed to achieve the 200% performance threshold set by the ASN, it was only produced in extremely limited numbers. The thirty-or-so remaining TACKS Vikings fall under the independently operating 210th Clips, the 212nd Barrel Shrouds and the 215st OPERATORs, all of which reside in the Daedalus, Irenic and Vostok systems of the Outer Rim.

"Christ's balls, Captain. We should really do some sniffing before we go prancing into some poor berk's back yard and shining laser sights in his face."

"Shut up. I know what I'm doing. OPERATORs, get into formation! Afterburners on three!"

Image

"Three! Chaaaaaaarge! This is for Shirai, you corporate chucklefucks!"

Image

"You think you can penetrate my shields?! Well tough luck, 'cause my shields are impenetrable!"

"Captain, watch your six!"

(END BLACKBOX LOG)

Downloads attached. Press the Slash (/) key to activate the afterburners. Couple of extra sprites in there, which you'll need.

Since apparantly this is in the same universe as your CLARENT stuff, will you be posting the other stuff?

took me a while to figure this one out, i suppose getting very little sleep last night doesn't help the old brain fit all the clues into place...

i have to say i love the afterburners for their sheer simplicity. although it does have it's downfalls as it make handling a bit odd, it's really a great system, which i may now "borrow". thank you very much :D

At the request of Anna (and Jomm), I'm posting some more of the ships used in Clarent. Included are the Renegade, the junker ships, the Ronove, the rogue droids, the NeuroCom ship and the Big Pig, complete with holopanel sprites.

Here's the link for the HM_Rocketbits sections: download/file.php?id=439

As to the Mim_RadiatorPannel, that is an accidental fuckup on Starstruck's part. Here's a fixed version of the Big Pig:

Hi there! Really love the viking. Nice compact design.

There are a few parts missing from the Clarent ships.
Spoiler!

Any help would be appreciated. Really want to see if your ships are balanced with each other.

Alternately, can you post the custom parts for the Clarent ships?

Ok I have finish play testing the ships... and my verdic is... their GOOD!!!

ASN Viking-class Frigate PLAY TEST Review

Shields!:
Those shields are lovely! I like the way they flash as they intercept incoming attacks. (I can guess at the background mechanics used, but it is the way they are used that make these shields so great!)

They do seems to have trouble intercepting non-missile type attacks. I had a Viking's shields blocking 3 missiles/per sec attacks without any problems, only to let buster shots through easily.

In any case... one of the best use of "shields" in BSF! Both in gameplay and looks! :)

Ship Animation:(other then shields)
Noting fanciful, but nothing wrong as well. Fits in with the animations of the other ships well.

Weapons
The weapons are... ok... In the play test they work well against the other ships. Suggestions would be to include some missiles? Maybe even replace the beam weapons with missiles. The beam weapons seems a little out of place compared to the other ships, most who do not have beam weapons at all. (Other then mining lasers.)

Also it feels weird for the Viking-class Frigate to have only 3 weapons mounted (But this is just my feeling. Suggestion only)

Overall:
The Viking-class Frigate is a great ship. :)

Other ships:
Overall:
Nice bunch of small ships! I love the reload animation on the Pirate Frigate! Most of the ships are balanced quite well too!

Note:
I noticed that the Dragon mining ship has a SUPER POWERFUL attack! It could take out a Viking-class Frigate with one hit!!!
And that is with the Viking's shield blocking the Dragon's attack in the first place!
Not sure if that is what you are aiming for... but just thought you should know.

Overall: A great set of ships! Hope to see more in this design line!
And thanks for the DLs!
