Heh, cool. How'd you do the destroyed sections like that? Put dummy doodads underneath the real sections?

looks like he used one big doodad to form the shape of the ship, then used bits cut out to form sections with weapons/engines on that can be destroyed. i was thinking of doing something like this a while ago wih my carrier - making the runway out of multiple sections that initially look like one but can be destroyed separately showing damage. this may have inspired me to try it out :D

Looks like you used some sprites from GSB. But really they look just as good as in GSB how did you do it?

He... put the sprites in the shipmaker? They'll still look the same regardless of whether they're in GSB or BSF... =|

I have take screen-shot of a GSF ship in the editor and use gimp to cut it in a puzzle of hull piece.
I have reused the same picture to create the damaged version, put it in section on the core with 0.1x; 0.1y and use the effect2 to use "section under" of size 1.

Doesn't using doodads like that cause issues when the ship is destroyed? Actually I can't remember what happens to doodads when the ship is destroyed.

To be frank, I think you're doing the GSB ships a bit of a disservice by using such an awful method of representing damage. Painting/cutting holes and adding some vaguely broken support/wire bits just looks awful horrendous.

Not to say it's not a neat concept, but the execution is horribly flawed in this case. More authentic damage that is closer to the original GSB style would be much better.

I recognised it's ugly. ^^
I've use this method because it the only one I "know".
Can you make a better one please?

You could use the actual damaged ship sprites from the game like this one.

Right, and perhaps cut the undamaged ship sprite into tiny pieces and place those small sections over the damaged area. Therefore, when those sections get destroyed, only that part's damage will be shown.
