I think I left your eyes unmolested for long enough.

Lancer assault gunship with wings for atmospheric flight.
Loki. Missile corvette.
Lancer without wings.
Also another ship that I didn't really like but would still wouldn't mind your opinion:

Hunter, unarmed. Probably gonna end up as some sort of utility ship if I don't wipe it.
Minor retcon: Hunter is a frigate, Lancer AND Loki corvettes.

well im not some pro ship builder but i think the designs are a little bold and they could use shading

I like them, however others might not because they are just simple.
I think its simple and elegant. I also see you got some nice shading going on there. My only problem is the retro style railgun peaking out from the front of the two smaller ships

You are absolutely right about that, and I mean I don't like the simplicity. The Loki could use some colors and the overlaying section on the Lancers is just ugly. I like the red and green lights, or whatever they are, on the Lancers and the Hunter isn't bad either.
Doogie12 wrote:I also see you got some nice shading going on there.
Which shading, I only see shading at the Loki.
Zardian wrote:they could use shading
I completely agree

I didn't have anything better to replace it with.
So I just made this instead:
Also some work on the Lancer:

-Changed railgun sprite.
-Increased the colour differences between sections (The wing bases are the darkest but I'm not feeling like taking pics again.)
-Front nav ligts.
-(UNPICTURED) Markings on the central section.
A white background pic of the Loki.

This one was a bitch to take. Bloody lights.
And now for something slightly different.

Aww more than three days already?
Anyway, using
Kaelis' little discovery as a guide I've managed to make this:
Basic version, slightly brighter than what I intend to use, no bright and explody stuff yet.
I also have two different sets of wings so I can hear opinions on both.
Darker version, still no bang, still different wings.

Nice use of the program, but it looks like the loch nes monster...
I like the simplicity of the small ships, especially since their not all that simple because you put alot of details on them. The Loki is my favorite but in all cases you used some of the sections in ways I wouldn't have thought of.

I think I could've done a bit better work on the neck back there.
But for now. The monkeys:
Due to increased raider activity, high command has comisioned two new ships:
AC-17 Hunter

The primary engineering team concentrated on building a ship capable of long range escort duty.
Classed as a patrol corvette (the original designs classed it as a multi gun corvette), it's larger than most other corvettes and due to a stroke of genius (or insanity), the engineering crew managed to install two frigate sized gatling guns on the craft. As a result, it's firepower is more than enough to take on anything that could threaten the transports.
The ship's above average fuel tanks, highly efficient engines and high level of automatization give it the range necessary for long range escort duty while it's weaponry gives it the capability to scare off or wipe out any raider wing brave (or simply dumb) enough to come in range.
The main weakness of the Hunter is the fact that due to the highly sophisticated nature of most of it, production is slow and the first models have proven difficult to maintain properly.
LC-17 Iron Maiden

Rather than make a ship that can fight raiders, the second engineering team adapted Hunter's design for in-flight refueling, allowing longer escort missions for standard strike craft.
Most of the ammo storage and crew compartments were replaced with additional fuel tanks while the gatling guns and
autocannons were replaced with simple machineguns, mostly to pacify the crews.
Due the volatile nature of it's cargo, crews are suggested to stay away from any trouble and let their escorts take care of the fighting
T-9 Hermes

A small, cheap and efficient shuttle sized cargo transport with limited atmospheric capability. Favourite among small traders, smugglers, mercenary groups and terrorist organisations.

A Hermes modified to be a makeshift bomber.
Dangerous against any target without proper defences.

Wow. Eight days? Time flies when you're sick.
Anyway. Since I'm still trying to get some decent section combinations, I've yet to make a big ship that doesn't count as eye rape.
But. I've managed to make a frigate. A missile frigate to be precise.

This particular ship is called Andrasta.
and I just noticed I forgot to press F11 before taking the pic.
The first ship of the class was attacked by two unmarked Hermes bombers on it's maiden voyage.
The salvo of 12 heavy torpedoes, which caused heavy damage to most of the ship and the loss of all but 40 of the 165 crew members, was however unable to actually destroy the ship.
The same could not have been said for the attackers, who were completely destroyed by the ship's remaining weaponry.
The surviving wreckage was insufficient in discerning the source of the assailants.
Picture taken during the initial assault, showing the destruction of five of the six engines.

Picture showing the damage done by the attack.

After the attack on the ship, two flak cannons were installed on the rear of the ship and all further vessels of the class to prevent such an event from happening again. A major interior redesign to reduce shrapnel in the event of an explosion and improved crew survival systems were also installed in all military craft.

Nice new ship. Section usage is good. The text is eyeburn though. The only problem I have is the parts around the engine. The angle on top of where the engines stick out should be facing inward.

You mean like this?

I don't really like it like this. And the text is default 1.
In other news:
Due to a small talk in some other thread, I've decided to try and make something out of a hastily googled picture of a certain planet (no cookies for guessing which one), one of Blue echo's shields and some quickly drawn sprites.

End result:
Summary: Nagaya may try orbital bombardment as a sport but his arse is vapour once he looses half his point defence. Though he did manage to flatten the capitol (and most of the capital) first.
(Torpedo blasts eventually burned past the unprotected aegised sections on the right.)
And please don't mind the fact that the ship is bigger than the planet.
T'was just a test to see if Chiiro's theory from
this thread actually works.
PS: Retcon: Hunter is now a frigate, Lancer is a light corvette.

This I like! Not really what I had in mind but it actually seems like it could work well. On a large(6kby6k perhaps) map, you could easily have the planet be bigger than the leviathan and still have plenty of maneuvering room. "glassing" the planet would essentially mean to remove all structures, though here is another situation where min/max targeting would be helpful so conventional weapons don't target the planet. Aside from placing the planet, no micromanagement would be needed since the orbital platforms and such would be part of the 'ship', attached to orbit the planet in ship maker. Shame if the powers that be can't handle it, but I think this would make for an exciting battle.
As for the frigate, I don't like the back pieces angled inwards either but a piece over the engines might be nice...Might consider reversing the section 4s(?), and some sort of protection for all those missiles, like blackhart's 5 or 6. And perhaps one of the Gnr2 pieces for extra shielding on the front. The back sides are rather flat as well so maybe something protruding like the herme's side fins? Even sensor equipment would help break up the line. Speaking of which, the centerline is rather obvious.
*edit* Best reckoning of what I mean with the fins. Ignore the rest, its such a nice design I couldn't help playing with it

To be honest, I rather like your version.
The back looks as if you turned the original's 90°, added the fins/wings something that looks rather like frontal torpedo tubes...
Overall, it looks much meaner.
Funfact: I couldn't get
this song out of my head while drawing the icons for the planet.
Also: After writing the first part of that post, I decided, to go and fix the major structural flaws that have been plauging the design since it's first flight.

The new design has improved navigational, communication and and sensor equipment, improved forward armour,
a central spine to improve hull integrity and three flak guns on the rear of the ship.
To accommodate for the new weaponry, one long range PDF gun and a vulcan cannon were taken down.
Considering simply moving the vulcan to the bottom of the ship but it might turn into overkill that way.
And I might try to do more work on the front tomor...Later today.
Rematch:

Two Hermes, two hits, minimal damage.
Oh by the way, If you want to, I can give you the files for the planet but the stuff is pretty much alpha.

I know we're supposed to wait for three days but I'm already nine days overdue.
For those of you that don't know or care about what happens in the hilariously fun world of aviation, the coolest aircraft since the Su-47 had it's maiden flight.
The event encouraged me to do a bit more fighter research which resulted in this:

A 600 bullet MG and 60 minimissiles with wings, engines and a cockpit.
Funfact: the plumes seem to work fine on turreted sections, but not on rotating ones.
Minor necro.

Okay you bastards, holiday time.
During the last few weeks, I've been trying (again) to bring one of my favourite ships back from the grave of pre SWA sprites resulting in this:

It's also one of my main dislikes of the new style. Depthing's a bitch.
The
old one was slightly wider with more engines. And I think it looked a bit better.
Suggestions?
I'll be off for a few days, visiting a serbian avation museum.
I'd appreciate if this post wasn't the last one here when I come back.
