I think it doesn't look great, it looks marvelous! :D
Maybe the wings/arms/guns are too thick, I don't know.

Adventures in asymmetry.

No, I don't think that works, It looks like 2 damaged ships that docked together, not 1 nice Asymmetric ship.

You could try to make the upper ship into something nice, but this didn't work...

I think the problem is that the main piece is fairly symmetric. It doesn't look like it was built to have the struts to the other section, more like it was just stuck on.

The ship isn't that bad, but why have you shaded it inside-out?

Also there arn't enough shades of grey, Inverse shading can work in places, my Corvettes I place up ages ago were rather inverse in parts.

Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.
I think this is the latter case.
This ship would be improved by being symmetrical probably, as your style screams out to be symmetrical.
But with this one at least you have two different ships you can break off of this. =P

That's what I kind of felt too, when I first tried asymmetry :? . I appreciate the comments!

@ Cycerin
I remember that Arcalane said something about shading, that the sections get darker as you approach the rim of the ship. Or am I mistaken?

Thats right. i think whats throwing them off is that you've got white sections on the edge lower than the dark sections. The majority of that ship could be midtone grey, with the outer pieces dark grey, maybe the outrigger too. Then the middle and highlights of teh ship could be white. then you use the green or whateer fleet color you want in highlights through the ship

Yes, but you've got bright on the outside and core, and the center parts are all quite dark.

Ah, I think I need to take highlights into more consideration with shading.

Let me try with a higher shading difference, then.

I really like the curve of the rear wings, and with some shading the forward parts could look very 3d, but the section work along the middle is a bit strange. it has promise though

Currently it looks like two ships docked together.
Need to thicken the middle unless thats the look your after

Something about those two front lobes bother me, but I can't pinpoint what.
