Ship Database Created! | Improved 24th July

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Ship Database Created! | Improved 24th July

Post by th15 »

With the sheer amount of custom ship submissions, I've created a way for users to upload your own ships right here on wyrdysm.com.

You can go here: http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... upload.htm

to upload your .shp and .sbl files.

However, due to server constraints, I can't provide hosting for screenshots so you'll have to host screenshots somewhere else.

If you wish to share your custom ships here, you should take a screenshot, put it on imageshack (or any other imagehost), upload the .sbl and .shp files to this website then post the screenshot and file links in a topic in this forum.

Tidied up the html for the ship database a fair bit, it fits with the rest of the site now.

Improved the Ship Database again. It now gives you the exact link to your uploaded file instead of making you hunt through the whole database for it.

...you'd have to be a total n00b for this not to be user friendly, dude.

Actually, it's not entirely userfriendly. Finding ships in the database, for example, is quite a chore.

I believe th15 is planning a makeover for the database though.

If you have the ship's name, go to the list then hit Ctrl+F in your browser to search by name.

...okay, yeah, there's room for improvement, but it's not THAT bad yet.

Well no, but there are a lot of things that could be done to make it a lot more useful; like a ship "tagging" system. The author could upload their ship, link to a screenshot off their image hosting site of choice, and add a short description and several "tags". The tags would act like categories, and be stuff like "light", "assault", "defense", "destroyer", "battleship", etcetera. - clicking a tag would bring up all ships tagged the same, and you could sort by author or view a kind of gallery of all of their ships. You'd need some kind of login/registration system for managing ships as well.

That's just what I'd like to see, mind - not what'll happen. ;)

How does one go about uploading a whole fleet? Do I just load all the ships into a .rar and upload it? Is do I have to upload the ships one at a time?
