New builder, new ship.

Hello, new builder here. I've been lurking for like, a week and a half and decided to try my hand at building something. I appreciate harsh criticism, no one ever got better by someone going easy on them.

Sypher Industries 'Crescendo'
Image
Developed as an anti-fighter platform meant to spearhead an assault against a swarm of strike craft, the Crescendo sports two Mk.VI MLTR (Multi-launch Tight Radius) Missile Launchers, capable of tracking and chasing down even the fastest and most manueverable fighters available. The Crescendo's effectiveness against any ship past corvette-class is questionable, however, as the missile housing is mainly occupied by tracking hardware and fuel rather than explosives.

The reactor is housed stern of the vessel, encased in a cooling system that recycles its own plasma exhaust into a makeshift shield, utilized by the two sternmost 'fins'. Using an advanced containment system previously reserved only for Super Capital-class vessels, the fins project an energy field that nets the plasma exhaust between the fins and the reactor housing. While most projectile weapons will still penetrate, energy weapons are harmlessly dissapated upon contact with the super-heated exhaust, allowing for a poor-man's defense of the mostly defenseless stern.

Well, it's certainly not a bad ship, design-wise. At least, not by my standards. And the colors were good until we got to the back of the ship. You have an explanation for it, but it still looks like shit. Radioactive shit. I suggest you tone down the fake aegis. At least you didn't use all stock sections though.

The blue sections look very, very bad. They are complete eye-burn. The rest of the ship is ok. If you know what I mean, the ship looks very copy-pasted like parts were just glued on. Not a bad start.

Thanks for the advice 25000st and inteuniso, I got rid of the eye-burn colors as you suggested, save for the center-piece above the reactor, which I made a darker hue. Would you suggest getting rid of the fake aegis all together, or is hiding it like I did in my updated color look okay?

Also, what do you mean by copy-paste? Which parts seem glued on? Because in my head, each part has a purpose, but if it looks glued on, I can try and design around such a problem, or throw parts out all together if they look bad.

The glow looks much better. Perhaps making it a tad lighter wouldn't hurt. Try hiding part of the missile launcher.
Your sections do not flow very well together. They do not create the effect of a smooth line. To achieve this, try to keep the angles the sections create under 45 degrees. Your very top sections (the sections with the lighter gray) are just randomly placed. Try to create multiple layers rather than just placing sections on top of another.

I hope this helped!

Hit 'w' with the weapon/module selected.
