Concept Frigate

Hiya, I've had the game for about a week now and this is one of the first ships I've made which uses triggers & moving parts.

Although protected by a shell of tough armour, the structure of the craft is light, as the ship is designed for commercial use as an escort for rich merchants rather than as a fully fledged military vessel. As such, the ship relies far more on manoeuverability and speed

The ship's wings are retractable, minimising docking space, as well as the ships flight profile when necessary. (well that's the pretend reason anyway - I just thought it would look cool).

Currently the ship is unarmed, since I'm still thinking about possible loadouts and what the speed:toughness ratio should be like. I'm thinking about aegis on the front two armour panels of the ship, but I'm not sure whether that would unbalance it too much.

I don't like the back of the ship much, and I might change that. Colour will probably have to be tweaked too, although I like blue.

So - critism, ideas, praise? (Anyone who can think of a good name for it gets a cookie).

pretty decent. there's a mirroring error in the front though. (there are sections overlapping due to mirroring)

What's with all of you newguys and using weird colours for weapons and ships? No offence but can you please just make it grey with 1-2 other colours.

Trigger work(or just moving parts.) is good. It adds something to the ship.

KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE AEGIS!

I would name the ship: The Aquila(eagle) because of the birdlike wings and the beakie(not 40k reverances) appearance of the nose.

Well anyway, welcome to wyrdysm!

Shipyards Specific Rule: Criticism
Don't dish out criticism until you've made enough "good" ships to know what you're talking about.

Don't behave like your word is law and that all ships must be made and balanced to your specifications.

Don't try to force your building styles on others.

If you don't have any useful negative commentary (ie, pointing out parenting errors), don't comment.
Shut the hell up already, maarten.

Not a bad start for using movement triggers.

As for the ship itself, it's solid. Decent use of sections and colour work. It's rather simple, but there's nothing wrong with that.

In this case, the colours of the weapons match the ship colour scheme.

I don't see any use of aegis here.

Sorry?

And it isn't the colour of the guns, they are just neon bright. Which I find highly unlikely, when this is a game in space so heat from the barrel can't flow into the air.

Ta for the feedback.
@Xynus
Ta for pointing out the mirroring error, I've now gotten rid of it (admitedly by replacing it with another much bigger, uglier overlap, but you can't have everything).
@Maarten
Yeah, the cyan guns were a bit much, I've changed them to a much more suitable grey. I was trying to get a gradient sort of an effect with the colouring, but I think I tried too large a range - I've made it a lot more subtle now. I like "Aquila" as a name - it shall be so :)

I've changed the back and the front a bit, for better or for worse, and added some more weapons. I decided against aegis. A couple of things to note:
-the dual autocannons on the back are actually dual blasters, just with a changed sprite. I wanted the blasters to look a bit beefier.
-ranges on the scatterbeams and pulse guns have been tweaked to 500 (the Aquila has a normal ai with a range of 450).
-the scatterbeam and pulse gun on each side have been linked together.

In terms of balancing, the ship is weak against long range concentrations of fire. Four Aquilas were quite capable of taking out four Hestias, but were roundly thrashed by three Onezones and a Hestia Alpha (mainly the Onezones - the Hestia Alpha was only really there for cannon fodder).

Way better, just a really good ship now. The colours are good.
Just some minor nitpicks, The front still has mirroring errors and I don't agree with your choise of dark blue(but that's a matter of taste I guess)

Here's the final revision, with the front tidied up. Zip file in the gallery :)

The blue is a bit too bright.(IMO)
Mirroring errors. 3 at least.

The design shows decent taste. The size is right-no overstretching.
There is nothing "too" in the ship. Good, yet slightly minimalistic.

Keep up. Maybe one day you'll bring everyone down with a whole fleet or some EPIC SHIP.

Final final revision. Mirroring errors fixed.
