The Confederacy of Free Systems + A WIP

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

The Confederacy of Free Systems + A WIP

Post by Quixitol »

First off, I'd like to say hello to everyone here on Wyrdysm since I just decieded to join up. So here is my first WIP Fleet, a stock-balanced one, comments and criticisms would be greatly appreciated.

The Confederacy of Free Systems

History

During the Nanz invasion of Terran space, dozens of star systems were cut-off from the Alliance. The unfortunate inhabitants of these sectors were left undefended as most Naval units had been withdrawn in order to better to defend the vital Core Worlds. These systems slowly made contact with each other and began to create a response system that would allow the overstretched naval units to quickly respond to reports of Nanz activity. These initial contacts would lay the political seeds for the Confederacy and the War of Alliance Aggression.

With the end of the Nanz War, the Alliance was focused on rebuilding the devastated Core systems and did not have the strength to reclaim its lost frontier colonies. Delegates from all of the systems that participated in the Frontier Defense Initiative met at Teris Ultra to determine the political status of their abandoned worlds. After months of sometimes more than heated debate, a constitution for a new nation had been drafted. The Confederacy was born.

News of the Confederacy's creation send shock waves through the Alliance. It was feared that other Frontier worlds still loyal to Sol would attempt to succeed after learning of the Confederacy. The leaders of the Alliance decided an example had to be made of the Confederacy before other systems began to break away. The Alliance Navy launched multiple attacks into Confederate space which were initially met with great success, as the CFS had little time to prepare an effective defense. However, the NCFS was able to effectively contain Alliance Naval units, and the war quickly turned into a bloody stalemate. The already depleted Alliance Navy could not sustain the losses caused by the conflict with the Confederacy, and the Alliance's leaders decided to seek an armistice, and later a former peace treaty recognizing the Confederacy.

Today, the uneasy peace brought by the Deneb Accords still holds. Although there are still occasional reports of minor border skirmishes, mutual fear of a resurgent Nanz or the appearance of a new alien menace have kept the two nations from entering into a full-scale conflict.

The Navy of the Confederacy of Free Systems

The NCFS was originally composed of only those Terran navy vessels that remained in the newly formed Confederacy. Not all captains were willing to take part in this rebellion. These Loyalist ships and their crews were either forced to surrender by rebellious squadrons, or hunted down and destroyed.

With the defeat of the Nanz and their pirate allies at the Battle of Alpha Eridani, the NCFS entered a period of restructuring and rearming. New designs began to enter service, gradually replacing ships remaining from the Nanz War and the War of Alliance Agression. Although outdated Hestia Omegas and Zelus Betas still serve in battle groups stationed along the stellar frontier, they are now the exceptions, not the rule.

Perhaps one of the most notable facts about the NCFS is their lack of inhibitions when it comes to experimenting with technology recovered from the Nanz. In fact, several of the NCFS's front line ships use weapon and propulsion systems at least partially derived from salvaged Nanz ships. Their use of Nanz technology stands in stark contrast to the Terran Fleet's reluctance to implement recovered technologies on their vessels, Nanz-derived systems are used only a few uncommon variants of their combat ships.

Battleships

Anubis class assault carrier

The Anubis class carrier is the staple of the Confederate Navy's drone assault forces, and is commonly seen at the center of NCFS battle groups. Anubis class vessels are able to use their forward facing Assualt Cannons to lay down large volumes of fire upon enemy ships, allowing their drones to bypass the enemy's point-defense systems.

Destroyers

Isha class torpedo destroyer
Image

The Isha class is a small torpedo boat often used to escort larger vessels into combat. Their standard payload, Energy Torpedoes, represent a fusion of Nanz Tachyon technology and traditional Ship-to-Ship missile systems.

Selket class armored destroyer
Image

The Selket class is a heavily armored designed to engage the enemy at close-range with its Scatter Beams. In addition to being a close-range brawler, the Selket can be deployed in groups to nullify enemy PD weapons with their Flare Launchers.

Anqet class tachyon destroyer
Image

The Anqet class's design clearly was inspired by that of the Enyo, one of the Alliance's close-range destroyers. The main difference between the two designs is armament. The Anqet sports three Tachyon Emitters as it's main armaments and is equipped with a Flux Projector, while the Enyo's weaponry was mostly Pulse Gun based.

Geb class destroyer
Image

The Geb class is a variant of the Anqet designed with a focus on planetary bombardment in mind. The Geb was first deployed near the end of the War of Alliance Agression to attack outlying

Edjo class interceptor destroyer
Image

The Edjo class makes use of another captured Nanz technology, the Impeder Module. The Impeder slows down enemy bullets, allowing them to be more easily targeted by PD systems.

Patrolcraft

Khnemu class patrolcraft
Image

The Khemu's only weapon is a Tachyon driver, another reverse-engineered Nanz weapon system. Becuase of its lack of other weapons systems with which to defend itself, the Khnemu is usually used as a long-range support ship.

Astarte class patrolcraft
Image

The Astarte class serves a role similar to that of the Alliance's Zelus, it gets up close and personal with the enemy, and releases a volley of fire before dashing out of enemy's firing arcs. The key difference between the Zelus and the Astarte is the Astarte's reliance on advanced kinetic weaponry, which replaced laser and beam based weapon systems on FDI ships during the Nanz Invasion, as they were cheaper to produce and maintain.

I really like that cruiser, and destroyer. I'm not much of a fan of the frigate. Not bad on history.

New WIP I'd love to have some C&C on:

Do you any more specific critiques of the Khnemu?

Really loving the frontal purple parts, although the antenae are completly out of place.

The entire ship is rather blurry because of the rotation and that makes the purple sections in the back stand out too much IMO.

I removed the antennae, but I don't believe there is much I can do about the sections blurred by rotation.

Also, I added the Selket class armored destroyer to the OP.

What rotation, and those antannae looked perfectly fine there, they actually make sense considering the shape of the ship.
i like them all btw, noticing too different or beatiful looking but
i guess their simpleness looks good.
ooh and one word of advise Quixitol:

DON'T and i mean DON'T listen to maarten, ever , he likes to troll and 3/4 of the time he makes no sense at all.
Nothing is forever. It can't be. 'Cause everyone changes.

Listen, and I mean carefully.(something Alphadetismegas seems to have a problem with.)
I am not blaming you for the blurryness. It's just resolution of the picture and of the sections. Second: The antenae are in the front not even behind/next to some shield. They are going to be shot, not good.
I personally would place them behind the front wing like structure. Would make the protected and still wouldn't ruin the ship. Now they are just breaking the smooth armoured design.

Really neat stock-based ship ya got there! My version of stock-based ships weren't all that good. Oh well, who cares! Could you put up a download for the CFS's ships please? If you like to keep them to yourself that would be fine. As for the purple ship, it's pretty good for a beginner.

Don't worry, I do plan on realeasing the NCFS ships as a fleet pack when they're all finished.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind in the future.

Very impressive.
Actually it's the best stock-only ships I've seen lately.
I wonder what would come out If you use some other parts?
maybe a miracle will happen!

Umm, these ships aren't stock sections only. They use some of Blackhart's wonderful sprites, Kiran sections, along with other sections unavailable before the big update.

Will do

Anubis: Looks good - I like it a lot. Colour use is nice, although you might want to make the dark blue just a little bit lighter so it stands out against the black (although this very well might just be my personal taste).

Isha: No complaints here either, except that once again the dark blue could be a little bit lighter.

Selket: The huge contrast between the light grey and the dark blue works here, although I think it could be ighter.

Khnemu: The problem with the Khnemu is that there's a big grey bit, and a little blue bit, and they sorta clash. This is a tricky thing to avoid when only using a few parts, but putting a few overlapping panels (smallerized perhaps) can really help the colours mesh. Here's an alternative (not necessarily the best alternative but an alternative all the same).

All in all, a nice fleet. Good job :-)

Funnily enough thedeepestblue, I had already build a similar remake of the Khnemu before I saw your post. You can see it in the OP, along with the new Anqet class tachyon destroyer, Edjo class interceptor destroyer, and the Astarte class patrolcraft.

Hey are you planning to do another stock-based fleet? Also, did you edit the colors of the weapon bullets, or are they default? Anyways, the new ships still stay true to the stock ships. Keep up the good work!

I might do another stock-balanced fleet in the future, but I think I have some idea what I might do for my next shipbuilding project.
Corporal Jomn wrote:Also, did you edit the colors of the weapon bullets, or are they default?
I have changed the color/bullet sprite of some, but some still have their default colors.
