The Novelty Weapon Collection

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Wow.

So wait, did the creation of my Driver Blade basically inspire this topic?

Actually, it's probably Ctrl-K now. :P

I find Ctrl-K and Ctrl-D have their own merits. The former means your ship gets a lot closer before detonating, but the latter allows "advance" strikes against enemies with shielding - that is, enemies often power up shields when the missile gets in range, whereas they only charge up on the damage contact with Ctrl-D. :)

Also depends on hax railguns or not. :P

Well, Natch, I guess it is.

Natch Driver Blade -> Sidwes Buzzsaw -> Novelty Weapon Collection -> HYT -> Beginning of fad

EDIT: Realized that Natch made Sidwes series...

NEARLY TWO MONTHES LATER......

Also, lemme clear out a little misconception:
The Sidwes Buzzsaw was my first attempt at a blade like weapon. It didn't fair too well, and I finally got it when I decided to make a sequel, the Chainblade. With my newfound techniques and knowledge, I went back to re-do the Buzzsaw, and it was a success.

So it actually went
Sidwes Buzzsaw->>>>>>>>>>>>>(long time)>>>>>>>>Driver Blade on a Sidwes Buzzsaw Hull->>>Chainblade->Improvement to original Sidwes Buzzsaw->Novelty Weapon Collection->HYT->Beggining of fad

It's a Fan Beamer! This is what happens when you confuse the Reload and Fire Rate values of a Mega Beamer in the ship editor.

I made that error very early on. I even have a ship with a 360 megabeamer with 60 deviation, 0 fire rate, reload and clip... I name it The White Screen Generator :D

0 fire rate means it fires every frame.
0 clip means it has infinite ammo
With those, reload is irrelevant.
Megabeams start at... deviation times... something, I think 10 or something like that... Anyway, it's way cooler than a helicopter :p

Actually having 0 for firing clip means that the fire reload is never used, not the other way around.

I believe I had the fire rate set to 300, reload and clip size set to 0, and deviation set to 1.0.

I had originally intended to make a Mega Beamer that could fire faster than a normal one, hence the 300 frame (10 second) reload time as opposed to the standard one that is around 13 seconds. Then there are 2 booster modules that are targeted on the ball with the beamer. Because I had the fire rate and reload values backwards, it basically made a new beam every frame, and by the time the first ones were halfway through firing, the beams were crossing and eventually became thick enough that the overlapping made the beam look solid white.

Edit:
Ok, I toned down the mega beamer, which I will now refer to as a "Spread Laser" for the purpose of this thread. Now It has reload 450, clip size 10, fire rate 10, and deviation of .4. It still has some of the "fanning" effect, but with MANY fewer separate beams.

Here are the results:

The beams are spread to either side and moving inwards.
Image

Now the beams are starting to cross over.

And now the pain begins in earnest. Afterwards, the beams start to separate again before dissipating.

Edit 2: Here is a DL of the blueprint for those of you who want to play around with the Spread Laser.
