The Novelty Weapon Collection

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Err actually I've never watched Andromeda. It works like the kamikaze function in homeworld. You select the ships, target something then press Ctrl-K to activate the kamikaze AI.

I assume it flies close and automatically self-destructs (if it isn't shot down) once it's within a specified range?

Kamikazie = Chinaese for suicide
Look Up
upon reading this:
50% of people will have scrolled up
25% will have looked at their ceiling
The last 25% can now feel smug because everyone else has taken orders from a little sig box.

No, it's Japanese. :roll:
1. (during World War II) a member of a special corps in the Japanese air force charged with the suicidal mission of crashing an aircraft laden with explosives into an enemy target, esp. a warship.
2. an airplane used for this purpose.
3. a person or thing that behaves in a wildly reckless or destructive manner: We were nearly run down by a kamikaze on a motorcycle.
–adjective

4. of, pertaining to, undertaken by, or characteristic of a kamikaze: a kamikaze pilot; a kamikaze attack.
[Origin: 1940–45; < Japan, equiv. to kami(y) god (earlier *kamui) + kaze wind (earlier *kanzai)]
Also, telling us what it means doesn't exactly help or add anything to the conversation. Wow, you can quote a dictionary! (albeit poorly :P)

Not that I mean to sound rude or anything. :)

Now THAT'S what the doctor ordered. Bloody brilliant, sir.

Also another thing you gotta be careful of with these mines/fragmentation warheads/whatever is that if they're stationary and you scuttle them, the ones behind the midpoint of the core unit fly away from the target, which is generally bad for the directed style warhead.

Wow... I never expected to start a fad with my missile...

Well, I put the majority of the firepower in my HYT in the front, so that it would be blasted towards the enemy...

That and there will be a delay between releasing my new ships. Right now I'm in the middle of doing something else so, unfortunately no new novelty weapons may come out (from me). But feel free to post your own!

I am having IDEAS. Hmmm, I wonder what the specifics for the Kamikaze mode are.

Somebody call for a shattermine?
Image

EDIT: Sadly, the shattermine, being immobile, can't use Ctrl-D to detonate. Annoying. It did, however, take out a Hecate near it. It can cause severe damage even to a Peitho and will seriously damage nearby capital ships unless there is an overwhelming amount of PD (specifically beams, which can OHKO a 10k HP segment) in the area. :)

So it works as a concept. Sadly, it needs more directional "oomph" otherwise the fragments fly away too slowly to catch patrolboats. :?

You could give the shattermine like .01 speed so it's mobile and Ctrl-D'able. :D

you might try taking out the 90 degree bend pieces and attaching the spikes directly to the core, and/or adding a second layer of spikes, each one connected to the one inwards of it.

th15 has already fixed the issue, so no worries. :)

The bends allow more shards to be added without making the mine look daft. On the other hand if I add more spikes, it gets even bigger, and right now it's easily bigger than a Zelus.

I -kinda- found how to make the shattermine work. Now I assigned a low acceleration value and it seems to be working a lot better. It works kind of like a repositionable claymore mine, as all the shrapnel now goes "forward". :lol:

I take that back. Apparently all the shrapnel shoots off toward the right hand side of the screen, no matter how I position and face the mine.

...or just in completely random directions. :shock:

Fleet HQ demonstrates the lethality of shattermines against data harvested during the conflict. Not even Nagaya's mighty flagship can hold against the mass of flechettes and armoured shell fragments flying toward his ship;

Image

In further testing, I experimented with the shattermine's little brother; the micromine. A Hecate has a close shave;

New weapon: Tachyon Beam!

It looks really cool. For best effect make sure your ship is completely still. It looks like a rotating, purple, band of destruction! 100 Damage per second too, for 2 seconds, then 4 second reload.

But you gotta love how the tachyon becomes it's narrowest right at the end of the wing sections. Looks like a beam condenser (Death Star Laser if it were purple...) ^.^
