Random Alienish Stuff

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Random Alienish Stuff

Post by Arcalane »

Some kinda alien beam corvette. Just a little inspired by Freespace 2;

Overview

Image
8x "Anti-Fighter" Beam Emitter
2x Medium Beam Emitter
1x Heavy Beam Emitter

Image
The anti-fighter beams are very short range, but brutally effective. The ships do not have PD, but make up for it with a very tough (10,000pts to the hull's 1,250pts) self-repairing shield.

4x Medium Beam Emitter

Early test firing, focusing the four beams forward...

Early test firing, focusing the four beams outwards for "crowd control".

The small beam weapons also remind me of the light phasers in star trek starfleet command 2&3, very nicely done!

Are you going to make more of these?

Interesting style... I want to say that the white color scheme looks bland but..... oddly enough really like it. Good choice of weapons as well, sections choices are good.

Trying extra hard not to make a complete idiot of myself.

I like the core beam, very ironmanish :lol: . And it looks so much better without the weapons visible. Simple but elegant, hope to see more of these.

Hmm... is that a custom sprite for the beamer?

All the weapons use default recoloured bullets, but the weapons themselves use invisible 1-pixel turrets.

no wonder the beam's effect looks great, an ion-ish effect.

The shape and the weapons are good but... the ship's color scheme is sort of bland. :| Not much to say about it.

I believe the core beam uses multiple overlapping linked beams to achieve that glowy effect, with one of those beams being shorter-ranged to make it look as if the beam intensity is dropping off at range.

Nope, just a single beam. It uses cycerin's "brush glow" technique for the core itself. The megabeam has a bright white firing flare which gives that effect though.

Added the smaller version to the first post, which ironically came first.

I love the style of the ships, and especially the smaller ship. It's got those smooth, but firm curves. I like!

At least in my opinion a 10,000 HP shield is somewhat excessive.
I rarely change my shields' HP from the default value, and when I do it's never more than a few hundred.

Again, the ship;

1) Has no PD.
2) Is obviously not meant to be stock-balanced. It has 1,500 hull HP.

So no balancing/HP/etc. comments, mmkay?
