newbie fleet

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Hmmm...
That's a lot of guns.
A bit much for my taste.

I really like the shapes and colors, but a bit overarmed maybe.

From here, they look like fairly okay ships at best.
The biggest and most annoying drawback is the thumbnails.

I recommend hiding as much of the equipment as possible so we are able to see the ship, otherwise its really distracting to the designs.

There's potential to be found here. First of all, when posting ships don't bother with thumbnails.

Second, don't overarm your ships. Come up with a weapon theme and strategically place a few of them in places where the weapons don't obstruct the details of the ship.

I actually like your dark gray/dark green color scheme. Maybe brighten it up a little bit. The section use and hull shapes are good.

Pretty good for a newbie, personally I dislike thumbnails and you zoomed out too far for the screenshots especially the smaller ships. Too much weapons on the ships and try covering up the weapons a bit with depth and sections over weapons.
Part of being sane, is being a little bit crazy.

Ship Style

Post by Deathgod65 »

Nice style you used for your ships. It gives me ideas for how to make my fleet's special forces. Thanks! very cool style. :D

The colouring of your ships is pretty nice i 'll use that colouring for my project (I never thought of that!)

The colors is just a no.
The section styles clash with eachother on the last thing.

Like the ships for a newbie, but needs moar lurking.

I think the issue with the last ship is that you have the nice curving and rounded sections making up the outer body... then it's suddenly a mass of angular sections in the center.

Those first 4 I don't like. Each successive one looks like a step in the process of building the last one.

The latest one is interesting. There may be something in there if you keep at it.

I don't agree. The progressive buildup is likely more realistic than a set of diverse hulls. If you have a design that works, don't start over. Keep building on it. If you need a hull that is more diverse for a specialty ship (like a carrier), that's fine. But in a real world situation, reinventing the wheel every time is not a great idea. Not to mention the continuity makes all of the ships easily recognizable.

To be honest, the ships themselves are nothing too spectacular, but I wanted to comment on what I feel is one of the most cohesive fleets produced in quite some time. With the exception of the most recent ship (which is loaded with poor section choice), well done.

the colors are too dark: the deep green almost fades out. Use more shading, and pick a highlight to dramatize the work.
