Hey, I'm just getting into BSF and I decided to try my hand at making a few ships. I'll be using this thread to post my crap. And my non crap, hopefully

I call it the Trident. I think it turned out fairly well.

This here is the Warhammer. It's from the same line as the Trident, but with greater strength and firepower. I like this one a lot better, I worked in more variation in color where I could, and the weapons are more noticeable here. Looking at it now, I'm wondering if I should have modified the color on those thrusters.

I went in a completely different direction with this one and build a fiery ship designed around the particle weapons. This one I designed with the weapons in mind first, and I think it ended up particularly well that way. Of course, I later remembered that those weapons fired in blue, but I had already finished the ship by then. =P

I did something new here. I figured I'd try to create a stationary turret. I tried a few different ways to do this before I got it to work right. It'll stay in place, but rotate to attack things. I had originally intended to do it like you would design a turret on a large ship, but I couldn't get that to function properly. I still like how it turned out, though.

My largest ship yet, and sequel to the Firebird, the Phoenix. This one fires in reddish colors now, so hurray for that. =P

I'll be posting more stuff as I build it, watch for updates. =D

Very nice ship, my only gripe.... the front section would look awesome if it opened up to reveal a megabeam

Heh, let's not get carried away, it's only my first day...though you are right, that would do nice. Maybe I'll redo it like that later on when I'm more experienced.

I think I'm going to make a larger version for this one, maybe call it the halberd or battleaxe or something neat like that.

1. It's pretty nice. Especially for a first ship. Section usage is nice and varied, and the overall shape is appealing.
2. Things to try: weapons and modules; more complex color schemes; triggers and section effects.
3. It's nice and all, but it's pretty small and simple to have a thread of its own. For future, similar creations, allow me to recommend the "Custom Ships Gallery" thread. I do get the impression that you'll be posting more, so it's not really a big deal.
4. For fuck's sake, please change your title. Shitty, nondescript titles seem to be the newest rage, because I'm seeing them more and more. This one takes nondescript and vague to entirely new level. I have no way of differentiating between this thread and the countless others.

1: Thanks, I appreciate that.
2: I actually have some weapons on there, but they blend in a little too well withe the ships colors. I'll try to fix that in the future, along with working on the other things you mentioned.
3: Already on it! I've got another ship built, it'll be up there by the time you read this.
4: Sorry about that, I'll change the title to something less ambiguous.

Heya, welcome to the forums.

As for your ships, as a first timer, it looks great!

Things you did right:
1) Nice detailed sections.
2) Sections placed in an orderly fashion.
3) There is a sense of depth.
4) Nice silhouettes.

Things that need improving:
1) Avoid using blurred sections which is often caused by too much stretching. What you can do instead is use a combination of sections to achieve the same kind of shape/detail.
2) You need a better colour scheme to either properly add depth, give outlines, colourize sections and/or have a fleet theme.
3) Place of weapons could use some work as well but this largely depends on what kind of ship are you designing and what kind of weapons do you want to be on it. In short, you will get the hang of this as you make more ships.

That is my two cents. =)

Funny thing is, I don't think I've had to stretch a single piece yet. The blurriness in the first ship is caused by the rotated pieces, which I made it a point to avoid in the second ship. I'm going to try a new color scheme for my next ship, perhaps something grayish or a less intense blue-purple color. I don't know a whole lot about weapon use yet, half the time I end up guessing on what weapon does what. I think I'll try with my next ship to establish a weapon pattern in the beginning and work towards it.

Could you post a download link?

I added download links, as well as a new ship, the Firebird, which, unfortunately, shoots blue shots. Probably should have remembered that earlier

Yeah, I figured that out while looking through the shipbuilder menu...I'm too lazy to change it right now though, maybe I'll release an updated version later on. I've got a new ship posted, though it's actually not so much a ship as a turret. It took me much longer than the other ships, though I did get a chance to try and familiarize myself a little with the more advanced shipbuilder features.
