Ship designs C&C

Hey all, this is my first time posting on the Wyrdysm forums, but I've been lurking around for a while.

EDIT: MASSIVE SNIP OF PENISBRICK
(any puns not intended)

Without further ado, the Confederated Systems of Humanity!

Current Fleet Lineup

Arbalest-class Fleet Battleship

Image

The Arbalest class of battleships was designed by the Tau Ceti shipyards and first deployed into service with the Solar Navy as its flagship. With the advent singularity-harnessing technology, the entire line of ships have undergone a series of refurbishments that are just being finalized. These refurbished ships replace the aging fusion reactors and now sport singularity drives. The increase in power has allowed for more weapons and the ability to spin up the FTL drives quickly for a tactical jump.

(NOTE: I'll be messing around with the tail to make it less engine-y, to stay in character)

Scutum-class Fleet Defense Cruiser

Image

Commissioned prior to the Arbalest-class refits, Scutum cruisers are powered by antimatter reactors, the most advanced drive systems prior to the development of singularity containment units. The antimatter reactor and drives deliver greater speed and more power output than equally sized fusion systems. Although Scutum-class ships are primarily used in point defense roles and fleet support roles, their antimatter drives allow them to intercept faster targets during patrols.

The colors could use some work, so does the ship. Try making the main color battleship grey, and some other colors (I suggest around two secondary colors) that compliment each other and your main color. Also for the ship, make it wider and longer, also try not to make it look like a penisbrick, or in your case a flying brick. Make the front end a little bit pointier too. ANd make the back less section spammy.

Also lurk moar

This is optional, you may choose to ignore it.

Try adding side pods.

Looks pretty good. My advice: Rework the thrusters. They look kinda simple as it is. Perhaps shrink them vertically and add some sections to the side of them. It doesn't look very realistic to have them floating off the end of the ship.

Btw, welcome to the forums!

Some things are quite good, and some could be better. Overal I like it.

Good:

I really like the little pods near the back, those that look like they're actually in front of the ship. Nice idea!

The front also looks quite nice, but not too special

Bad:

There's some assymetry, most noticable in the pods. The bottom one should be moved back a little. Also, one of the missilepacks is far larger than the others.

Some guns are just too large. Shrink them, draw a custom sprite or just stick to smaller weapons. Or just make one turret on the centerline, so it can rotate to face it's target.

Stuff's in the works. I'll be posting more pics soon

Thanks for the comments, I'm trying to keep it from looking like a penisbrick, but I do want a feeling of hardsci-fi mixed in with some space opera.
Therefore, those blue pods and bricks at the rear are part of the reactor (which will be a silly little aegis thing) shielding.
The n00b-reactor:

@bien: I'm thinking of the Dalvitan blue for the secondary color, but I'm kinda unsure whether or not to stick with two greys or not.

@Aaganrmu: The missilepacks are the point defense and then the offense ones; they're for different things. With the torp tubes, I guess I'll stick with the missile launcher sprites for them.

@Hypothetical: Thruster cowlings in the works.

Thanks guys!

EDIT: Photobucket-ed.

Ship's ok, color's meh, but automatic FAIL for using Imageshack.

And a word of advice: Look at Lizzie's IVL fleet or my CUS Third and Fourth gen, and UEDF fleets. They look like what you're looking for.

Edit: The grays are good.

More ship pics.
This time, the central segment, with side pods.
Image

I think I'm going to use the centreline for cannons and the like, maybe a spinal weapon that taps the reactor, and the side pods for missiles and point defense.

EDIT: Is this stuff improving?

Yeah, it is. I suggest you maek the side pods pointier. And try combining the latest ship and the ship with the funky power core. I think the results would be good.

Whoops, forgot to mention that they're the same ship!

Full ship:

I'm going to start work on the frontal section tomorrow, flesh that out, then clean and touch up the rest of the ship. Of course, when running BSF, my computer is as a shambling zombie on the road to barhah, so playing really isn't terribly enjoyable with titanic ships.

EDIT:
Gah! I'm not done yet; see above!

Well, you certainly did beef it up, but now the neck thing connecting the bow to the rest of the ship looks way too thin, in my humble opinion.

That dieterling messes with the reactors style,I'd put it on that otherwise boring strut a few pixels right.

The front needs to be expanded because it looks like a twig and has little to no purpose what so ever

I think it's not finished yet. And I think he said that he'll make it thicker. And right now, it looks like a Battlestar crossed with one of those human ships from B5, and a ship from Star Wars, that ship with a spindly walkway holding the front and back halves together.
