New ships from Skrim

After further modifying my Blue Alien Fleet on last time, I decided to build some new ships to be balanced against the Blue ships.

Here they are.

Sol-Class Cruiser:
Image

Armament:
- 2 Fusion-Warhead Torpedo Tubes(front-launching)
- 2 Fusion-Warhead Torpedo Tubes(side-launching)
- 1 Pulsed Particle Cannon

Defense:
- 2 Laser PD Turrets
- 1 PD Rocket Launcher
- Hull integrity rated at 700 points

Aqua-Class Heavy Drone:

Armament:
- 2 Pulsed Particle Cannons

Defense:
- 2 Laser PD Turrets
- 1 PD Rocket Launcher
- Hull integrity rated at 500 points

Fleet action:

There are no fancy moving gimmicks on these ships; they're semi-stock balanced and can be played in large encounters at a reasonably high FPS. Though, I am working on some realism-oriented designs(which I keep postponing) that use retractable missile launchers and radiator panels.

As for now, comments are welcome.

well.... damn. That's amazingly similar to the heavy fighter I made, and almost identical to the light fighter I was planning.... just... better than both. Nice job.

I want to see some big ships with that look!

Sweet! Love the look here - some very nice section usage. Just a hint of Cylon as well, which can't go wrong :)

Nice flow of lines youve got there, they don't look like something built of small parts at all.

They do indeed look like one large ship, and not just parts mashed together. They only look more like fighters/bombers than cruisers to me. Colour scheme is cool, nice golden striping.

The Sol-class reminds me of a Pegasus from Tachyon: the fringe somehow... But in a good way.

I agree with Wicky, they look very Battlestar Galactica Cylon-y. Very nice.

That was better response than I expected. Thanks! :)

Anyway, here are some more ships, currently unarmed:

Zephyr-Class Missile Drone:

(ignore that PD rocket pack; it will be removed later)

Armament(Planned):
- 2 Medium-Range Missile Swarm Launchers

Defenses:
- 2 Laser PD Turrets
- Hull integrity rated at 400 points

A small ship, not very well defended and lacking exceptional maneuverability, the Zephyr is a light bombardment craft designed to provide close fire support to other, tougher ships.

Pyro-Class Heavy Combat Drone:

Transit Mode:

Armament(Planned):
- 2 Short-Range Missile Swarm Launchers
- 2 Pulsed Particle Cannons

Defenses(Planned):
- 2 Laser PD Turrets
- Hull integrity rated at 700 points

The Pyro-Class Heavy Combat Drone has more powerful reactors and propulsion systems than other Unity ships, which allow it to maneuver in combat more effectively than other similar-sized craft while wielding heavy weaponry.
These systems, however, need better cooling than what the armor-surface nanodroplet radiators found on other ships are capable of delivering; the Pyro instead comes equipped with large dedicated radiators that emit waste heat into the depths of space behind the vessel. Of course, cooling systems being a weakness of all combat spacecraft, the design doesn't risks and retracts the radiators once in combat range, switching to internal heatsinks for the duration of the battle.

Radiance-Class Tactical Artillery Drone:

(yes, the main cannon recoils)

Armament:
- 1 Fusion-Augmented Quench Cannon firing Focused-Fusion Warheads.

Defenses(Planned):
- 2 Laser PD Turrets
- Hull integrity rated at 600 points

A surprisingly small drone built entirely around a huge cannon, this is the tactical trump card of the Unity of Sol fleet. An assassin to enemy capital ships, it can destroy similar-sized vessels in one direct hit. It is rather tedious to maneuver and poorly defended though, lacking conventional short-range weaponry, so it needs to be escorted by other ships when participating in a major battle.

I dislike the mid-section were the cannon meets the rest of the ship, so that part will be redone shortly. I'll post up armed versions of these ships, as well as rearmed versions of the Sol and Aqua tomorrow(with new missile launchers, and the useless PD rockets removed).

I also partially built the hull of a large carrier(the Aurum-Class Flagship) designed to launch these drones into battle and command them, but I scrapped it because it totally didn't fit into the rest of the fleet style. I'll be redoing it over the next few days as well.
