Temple of Botis backstory, Apollyon's Ring upgraded
So, inspired by Dood's Mavor Cannon, I eventually took a stab myself at working out how all the movement triggers worked, and then packaged it all up in a shiny parcel. Here's the result of my efforts, christened 'Adramelech' after some demonic king of fire. Which I though was fitting.
Waiting:
Charging:
Cannon recoiled:
Back underway:
I will admit right off that it unoriginally uses a nuke cannon. However, the sabot cannon I would have liked to use doesn't do splash when enemy controlled making it less fun to play with, and lasers are so last decade
Oh, the recoiling section can rotate 35 degrees (to compensate for the AI's tendency to face roughly 30 degrees away from it's target during protracted battles)
Opinions on the charging effect? The colour scheme is not set yet, apart from the glowing strips - what would look best? Bronze?

holy crap, sparkly! My eyes....
The sparkle is VERY nice. I would have to say Groovy Pants. But I hope it has a really really low cycle time. Otherwise it might ruin how special that effect is. To quote my favorite reviewer:
"... I'm sure repetition will swiftly boil it down to just, plain, Pants."
My constructive: the thrusters appear out of no where. If you hadn't posted the picks I would assume some invisible movement stuff. It seems to not fit the ship.
I'd recommend either going with a completely original thruster effect... whatever that may be.
Or combining a new thrust pattern with Aegis parts, maybe another color, as burners.
Or making ship parts that look even a tad like thruster ports.
Or if none of the above work for you, don't use any. Thrusters are last decade, too, and I almost left them off my ships. If I was good or had an alternative I would have nixed them completely.
EDIT: my wife recommended Ball Dome thruster ports to fit the design. Take that as you will, but that's what she said.
I think the CONCEPT of the closed thruster emerging from the smooth lines would look great for yours. Like they have a cover or something that moves out of the way.
Like the rear pieces that curve together around the circle: they could be displayed open like they slid back to expose an Aegis piece representing power thrust. Same with the side pieces. I don't know if you can trigger them to open/close when the thrusters go off, but that would be fucking sexy.

I like that idea Krishach very much - your wife has good ideas
The cycle time is 300 frames atm, which feels about right.
I really wish this was possible now, lol. Static thrusters for me though, I think (fights off ideas of rotating thruster sections... it would just be silly XD)

Thanks for the feedback, I'll get to work on the engines now.
As to the main weapon... well, it's all a bit anticlimatic atm - I'll be working on that now... as well...
Oh, and is there a fix for it taking several cycles of driver/trigger weapons to actually get them working? I think it fires two shells before the sparkles light up and the pods deploy, which is mildly annoying.

Ok, there's been some aesthetic changes to the engine pods, and the charging sequence has been upgraded (with more sparkles... and other features )
Have a peek:
Have a look at how it plays:

Any more ideas?

Hmm... well, Anarchy, creativity comes in many guises, and these days, when there's so much that has already been done, much of the creative purpose can be merely taking older ideas and working with them.
What in particular wasn't creative? The ship's shape? Well, it's like a seed, tipped with a nuclear shell launching claw. Ok, so the sides are more or less gentle curves, like many ships on this forum... but then, there are plenty of straight-edged ships, angular ships, triangular ships, pointy ships, blocky ships... list goes on. But that's more originality than creativity.
What about the glowy lines? Not seen them on this forum before, but yeah, I've seen glowy lines before - I was thinking Necrons crossed with HW2 Sajuuk when I conceptualised this - creating something from previous ideas.
What about moving engine pods, staggered charging sequences, and all that shebang? I mean, if there's creativity in this design, that's where it lies - the entire fire sequence. Spent a few evenings just trying to sort the animation out, tweaking it, fighting against the tempermental bugs - much more time than I spent on the ship design.
Now, I'm not having a go here or anything - I'm genuinely interested to know what merits a stamp of 'creativity', as opposed to, say 'originality'.

Yeah Himura those are indeed short-ranged 360 beamers - pairs of them, one light, the other a darker yellow, just for fun They are, however, functional - and not just cos they can do a little damage; The forward sparkles extend the engine pods and the cannon sparkles work the glowy spikes that snap back like a bow as the cannon fires.

One note on the ship - obviously to run it you need a shield - specifically TBE_Shield4 (or 5 - can't remember which, they look the same) in a folder named "TBE_Shields". Don't think I've used any other non-standard sprites.

I agree: there comes a point when you can point out that ANY inspiration has to come from somewhere. The greatest creative forwards in any field of any time have all been credited by the artists to some kind of inspiration. I personally think the ship looks great, and even if you had make an exact version of something, I think you did well.
