Retractible Armor

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Retractible Armor

Post by Aederrex »

Ok, so, this literally came to me in a dream. I had been playing with a rotating saucer ship using these pie slice shaped segments, and then went to bed. First thing after I woke up i made this:

If triggers and such were working I'd have set it up to disable all the turrets and things while the shutters are closed, but that will have to wait. I also have plans for some different shapes, next I think I'll do something more along the lines of plates sliding down the sides of a long thin ship and having half the saucer shape here close on the front.

Anyway, thoughts? Criticism?
Also, first post.

Edit: Ship file. Feel free to improve on my design. http://www.wyrdysm.com/battleshipsforev ... Saucer.zip

This fucking OWNS. The ship is decent but the idea is great. First good use of the new triggers and moving sections.

Perfect to design gameplay around too. Move up to them while weathering the bombardment and then open up and blast away.

wow that is all types of awesome. Sucks it doesn't work perfect but between moving sections and being able to hide weapons, its far beyond anything I ever hoped for bsf. I can't remember if I actually saw this or not but are movements like that able to be linked to a key? or only a trigger like when the weapons acquire a target?

Yeah I actually had it set to work with keys I just set it up to automate for a good gif. Just have to wait for the bugs to get worked out and it'll be functional.

It looks very functional, and great for a infiltrator weapon. Imagines this harmless-looking saucer flies into the middle of an enemy fleet, suddenly, it's armor retracts unleashing a world of hurt to the enemy fleet...

A really cool design there.

Wow I really wasn't expecting this good a reaction. Anyway, I'm thinking about trying to make some sliding plates for this ship:

Something like this I think:

But you know, not slapped together in five minutes and covering the whole ship. I'll probably wait till the trigger and movement bugs are sorted out though, it's hard to be motivated to make something complicated like this when all you can do with it is watch it animate back and forth.

Oh, on another note, are nano repairers bugged? None of my ships seem to be using them, and also, is there a way to default section glow to off?

Wow, nice idea. It reminds me of the mega-shadow :)

Shame triggers don't work too well in-game yet, but it'll be worth the wait!

You shoud build your ship around the retractable armor more, instead of just slapping it on some generic brick.

Well, my reasoning for the ship I picked for my next project was that it's the same maximum width as the original, but yeah you're right really. Something purpose built would be better. Plus it'd take up a lot of the ships broadside capability to store all the armor pieces.

Nanos only don't work because by default they are set to foolish stats, they don't have the range to hit anything but possibly the section they are resting on,and even then they will drain nearly all of their energy to repair 0.20 HP.

Just modify their stats to more suitable levels and you'll have yourself a functional nano.

I second the notion that this must be developed into a spaceborne, gun-toting version of Pacman. Loving what you've got so far.

That ship was build well before triggers existed .

And this is the first ship who uses it for anything but eye candy.
