Novi Piratae

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Novi Piratae

Post by Ingens Remus »

Hello, there, I'm new to the forums but I've been playing the game for a little while. This is my first line of ships, called Novi Piratae (which, by the way, means New Pirates in Latin). All the ships are the customary pirate red.

Any questions, comments, concerns, advice on the ships or images or whatever are always welcome.

EDIT: Here are the Mark IIs of all the ships. The bombardment ships' mining beams have 50 more range than their stock counterparts. I've nerfed the other ships, in an attempt to make them more 'stock pirate-y' as Arcalane calls it.

Hmmm... the experts here are probably going to cry weapon spam on the assault frigate and broadside cruiser. Try modding one or two turrets to have the power of more instead of having so many.

Yeah, I thought that too. I think the broadside cruiser is okay, because those are all stock blasters. I don't think it has many more turrets than the Hecate or Athena. However, I do agree that the assault frigate is too cluttered, especially in the front. I've been meaning to change it, but I've never gotten around to it.

By the way, the purpose of these ships was to create a new force of pirates, more badass than the original pirates (those were pretty cool too though :)) and to not use any weapons that I would classify as 'alien'. Now that I think about it though, I suppose scatterbeams could be considered alien.

Some thoughts to make them more stock-pirate-y. They're rather well equipped for pirates right now if you ask me. :P

Interceptor; maybe replace the front flaks with pulseguns or mining beams, so it can also act as a light skirmisher. PD-dedicated ships tend to be of little use, and the other ships are already PD-heavy. Alternately, replace the outer flaks with wide arc (215?) pulse guns/mining beams.

Armoured Interceptor; again consider replacing either the forward diagonal or forward straight flaks with either pulse guns or mining beams so it can return fire. I think I see a blaster hiding under the core sprite...

Armoured Attack Ship; drop the two forward blasters, two of the particle guns and one of the deflectors (as they're rare on pirate ships). Perhaps only use one mining beam in the center rather than two.

Assault Frigate; drop the outermost missile launchers and innermost blasters, and swap the six scatterbeams for four mining beams - two to each side and two facing diagonally. Possibly drop two of the particle guns and one of the deflectors? Move the flak forward and place a single deflector where it is now, possibly a little further back so it can be shot down that narrow 'vent'.

Broadsider; drop both the center of group pulseguns and center of group mining beams. Angle the mining beams outwards a little, and angle the pulseguns a little further forward for better frontal defense. Delete the boosters and place them again for proper appearance.

Heavy Bombardment; drop between one and two particle guns. Maybe add a fifth mining beam to the core, or drop a beamer and move the other to the core and add mining beams to replace the beamer's previous locations.

Thanks for the comments.

@ Arcalane: I agree, the interceptor is a very weak ship. But it is meant to be so. I suppose a couple mining lasers would be fitting. The Armored Interceptor: There is a blaster on the core, and in numbers of about three or more, Armored Interceptors are relatively strong, and the flaks adequately defend most incoming particle fire. The armored attack ship and the assault frigate could definitely use some nerfing, I agree as well. I suppose the broadsider is a little cluttered.
Delete the boosters and place them again for proper appearance.
Where should I put them? Further back where the particle guns are and put the particle guns elsewhere? The Heavy bombardment is a little particle heavy. I'll make these changes and repost the new ships.

@ Deltaflyer: I like the Hecate design. I tried to model something similar. I have a few older battleships which have a similar design as well. It's something of a fetish for me.

Thanks again for the support and comments.

Heh, the work on them has been a little slow, I've had a bunch of homework.

Come to think of it, I think making some encounters would be quite fun. Thanks for the idea. But how would I post the encounters? I don't think you can upload them to Wyrdysm. Would I have to find a website like photobucket but for files?

You can upload them to the database.
