this will knock your socks off! GRAND CRUISER

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

this will knock your socks off! GRAND CRUISER

Post by bahamutZERO9000 »

I have created the ship with the greatest firepower to date. it can crush all enemies the game can throw at it, and not take a scratch. i offer you to challange it with your own ships to see if you can win and beat it.

here is the story:
in the year 2590, there was a civil war between the union of federated conglomerates and the robot legion. the robots were originaly created by a mad scientist but they developed self-awareness and fought back agaisnt the humans to secure there freedom. the robots were let by a supercomputer named VX-902 that lives inside a heavily fortfied asteroid base. the asteroid is covered in lazers and thick indestructable armor plates so that VX-902 can be safe from attack.

but the humans from the union of federated conglomerates had lost many planets to the robots and were not about to give up. with the help of there best scienctists and thinkers, they used their final resources to build the ultimate ship. on a moonbase orbiting the shattered pieces of what was once called Earth, they built the Grand Cruiser. the human emperor himself sacrificed himself to become part of the ships computer so he could fly it. now with this ultimate weapon, the humans are pushing back the robots and might win the war. but only YOU can decide what will happen!

here is the Grand Crusier

and here is the only known battle between TWO Grand Crusiers. the camera was soon destroyed by the massive carnage that resulted from the titanic clash.

So you've designed a ship with wank-blasters and section stretching that can only be called obscene.

Congratulations. U R TEH WINNER1!

Well at least the back story is good. (I mean good in my opinion; remember I can't write a back story to save my life.)

first things first, please crop your images to a more manageable size. there is no need for pictures of the green bar.

for a first post, I'm actually rather impressed with the ship. the biggest problem right now is coloring. mainly IT'S ALL GREEN. please come up with a color scheme and recolor the ship in more than one color. instructions on how to do this, as well as hotkeys, can be found by pressing F1 in shipmaker.

also, welcome to the forums. have a nice stay.

Oh wow, man! It takes such skill to throw together a bunch of sections, slap a bunch of guns on it, and give them all really high numbers, you must feel so proud! You've created a masterpiece! It's brilliant! Amazing!

Wait, no, it's shit.

And in other news:

Boom.

This is not good for a first ship. Maybe a year ago, it would have been considered a good first ship. These days it's considered lamesauce with a side order of crap.

ok from now on i will remove the green bars.

to Anna congradulations on defeating my grand cruiser. do not think that i am mad at you for beating it on your first try, it just means i need to try harder next time :) i am confused that you think first time shipmakers are supposed to get better over time, when a new builder from a long time ago is just as new as a new builder now. but don't worry i will improve my ship designs as time goes on.

actually i spent over two hours making this ship if anyone wants to know

Two hours? I would have expected something far better than this over-statted, utterly-imbalanced pile of shite. The backstory is subpar and needs a lot more fleshing out.

And this screenshot tells you everything you really need to know about the ship;

How about trying to make ships that look good, instead of trying to mak OMG POWERFUL SHIP. Making a super powerful ship doesn't require any skills, it just requires you typing in big numbers. Someone else can always type in BIGGER numbers.

well, I didn't actually download the ship. I don't really like to until the parenting gets fixed and people get the basics down.

@bahamut: do you know how to fix parenting (white lines coming from section and weapons)

also, loose the aegis, and make the ship look better. more like you would imagine a ship actually capable of space travel.

yea there were some white lines going everywhere but i turned them off because they were in the way and i couldnt see my ship very well. i thought they were power conduits or something, but is there a problem.

i know my ship has a few glitches as Arcalane has shown. i myself saw that weird thing myself. i know the weapons are supposed to blow up too so i don't know why they didnt. they blow up on all the regular ships.

That's because you didn't parent them properly.

I'll let someone else explain how to reparent... be glad you can. Back in the good old days we had to rebuild ships if the parenting fucked up!

a few glitches is a large understatement. basically, those arrows should extend out from the core in a web. each section should have a whit line extending to an adjacent section that is nearer to the core. to change where these lines go, select the section whose parent (section the line comes from) you want to change, then right click the section you want as the parent, and hit 'P', or select chose parent. this also applies to weapons. select them and then right click the section that they are on, and hit 'P'. I also insist you read all links listed here.. Anna's guide to good ship building is a good place to start.

You have discovered the wonder of parenting. Those white lines are very important, so do not turn them off. When you select a section (or the core) then place another section on the screen, you'll see a white line connecting them. This means that if the first section (or the core) is destroyed, the section you've just placed will also be destroyed. This also works with weapons and modules.

Leran to do this properly as it's a golden rule of shipbuilding, and should be done before ANYTHING else, otherwise your ships will be shunned by the forums.

Good Day.
