um, layering issues, weapons crowding issues, need color variation, too much stretching.

Best to me is the fourth ship down, not because it doesn't still have those but because they work for it. With the exception of the 17s...

*Sends a warning to the scrap heaps... More junk coming in -_-*

Really now, Aegis all around? That was a good idea... when?
The colors are monotonous and ugly. Too many weapons. Ugly, non-consistent shapes... Start over, better luck next time.

Well, I can see cases of weapon spam, poor section use, overstretching, layering errors, repetition, ablative spam, aegis spam, deadly poor use of bubble shielding and complete lack of any custom colouring.

Scrap all, start again is all I can say.

well i like the second ships core hull design, perhaps if u removed all of the modules and gave a few just solid ship screen shots everyone would get a good idea of what they really looked like, because its somewhat hard to discern the ships under the weapons and parenting lines

just my two cents, i like the idea behind them.

Thank you veronw, for a comment I can actually use.

I'd like to think that there is some hope for some of these ships. they are only concepts at this point, without proper armaments on most and without being colored. THEY ARE NOT A FLEET, AND ARE COMPLETELY UNRELATED.

I'm aware that they need far more work to actually look good, but I want to know which I should keep working on.

I'm not sure you have any Idea what aegis spamming is. 360 cover with aegis is aegis spamming. 10 layers thick of aegised sections is aegis spam. ablative aegis armor is aegis spam. 6 aegis deflectors, with exposed generators is not aegis spam. the alien 'dreadnought' from the campaign has 4 and it's generators are protected. I don't hear people calling that aegis spam.

It is clear that I need to actually do some coloring and fix the weapons before getting the evaluation of the hulls. be back when I have more.

i think he was talking about the bubble shield Confused
well then in that case, he still doesn't know what he's talking about. bubble shield implies the phrase aegis spam, a post on it is unnecessary. I think I will do a version of that ship without the shield anyways.

Have some CC:

First ship "atlas":
-The section 22's at the back are very messy.
-The mass spam of section 4 ablatives are pretty messy too, and their size contrasts (in a bad way) with teh rest of the ship.
-Don't use section 26's unless you know what you are doing.
-Section 16 is a great connecting piece to create a skeleton for your ship, but as a skeleton you should cover it a bit more. Use Shift-Q to send it to the back of the ship, so only the central bit shows.
-Don't use alieny pieces on what looks like a terran-ish spaceship.
-Please, at least spend the time to capitalize your ship's name.

Second ship "UNS Thermopolie":
-You want people to focus on the hull, but they can't SEE the hull.
-The outline is all right, I guess, but nothing special.

Third ship "X-401":
-Good use of aegis that is not invincible or overly cheap.
-Use of curved sections make the ship look weird, and not very "ship-like." Hard to describe, but unless you are going for a curvy ship (which this ship is not) its better to use straighter sections.

Fourth ship "Revolution":
-Mass repetition. No, no, no, no, NO.
-Overall shape is ugly, like a misshapen blob.
-heavy stretching of section 17's on the wings.

Fifth ship "black fire":
-Could have potential as a weapons platform, but weapons need to be decreased and arranged in a way that makes it look like a weapons platform. Putting most of the weapons on a line across the ship could be a start, and remember to remove some weapons, there are too many.
-See first ship remarks on section 16 usage.

Sixth ship "USS i r invincible":
-How do you propose enemies will kill this ship.
-Stack aegis on top of each other for better visual effect. You seem to have done a bit of this with your other ships, so do it with this one too.
-Actual ship's outline looks OK, not too bad for a relative newbie.

Conclusion:
-Still need a lot of work, ships are very sloppily built.
-To improve, build new ships, don't try to modify these existing ones too much since building from scratch will probably give a better result.
-Get a colour scheme. Pure blue will not work either.

Here ya go, wrap your head around this and you'll become a better shipmaker.

alright, thank you for the extensive guide. this is awsome.
First ship "atlas":
that is actually a fairly new ship I've been building at lunch on my laptop, hence how sloppy it is. I will take that into consideration and have it up soon.
Second ship "UNS Thermopolie":
-You want people to focus on the hull, but they can't SEE the hull.
 fixing that.

alright, I will get rid of the revolution (forth ship), and focus on the Apollo and X401.
FIRESTORMS SECRETS TO BUBBLE SHIELDS:
make them weak. they will protect against lots of small fire, but main
cannons will cut through like a hot knife through butter.

plasma nukes and other area affect weapons are quite effective

little fighters can get inside the shield to disable the generators. allowing big ships to make it go BOOM

Low HP aegis'd sections? That works I guess.

For a colour scheme, a very simple method to start with is to use a colour and a shade of gray. Gray goes well with pretty much anything (except very bright colours like hot pink, but who would use hot pink for ships lol).

I have the update posted, what do you think?

I actually saw a hot pink ship last night. I don't remember who was responsible though.

I'm thinking I want to use either blue or red, gold, and grey for a color scheme.

That'd be Darkship. His awesomeness levels qualify him for hot pink usage.

Red looks a bit dark, and black is definitely too dark.

no argument. that ship was pretty cool, even in pink.
Red looks a bit dark, and black is definitely too dark.
I'll lighten up the red around the engines then. If you are referring to the black on the ablatives, that is house colors, therefore it won't necessarily end up being black.

hmm well the second ship design still holds out as my favorite so far, although i think combining sharp edges with the curves is slightly odd, it still makes it seem unique and bizarre. just requires refining, otherwise they look nice
