Unified Protectorate Fleet

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Unified Protectorate Fleet

Post by Salvofire »

Hello everyone, I'm back again and with yet another fleet. I'd like to think my ship building skills have improved, but I'm dying for some feedback. Tell me what I should fix/make better.

Without further ado, The UPF!

Stardust class frigate:

A solid platform used a variety of situations. This frame has become a mainstay escort of larger vessels, continually proving it's battlefield efficiency in numbers.

Image

Armament:

1x Multi-barreled Pulse beam cannon
1x Point defense turret
1x shield array

Stardust Bomber variant:

Using the reliable stardust as a platform, the UPF decided to make a frame with a little more kick to it. Thus, the bomber variant was born. This ship serves as a light reconnaissance and fast attack vessel designed to destroy larger ships with numbers as it's primary advantage.

Armament:

1x Particle Accelerator Cannon (PAC)
1x Point Defense turret
1x Shield array

Shooting Star class Destroyer:

The shooting star is a fantastic ship for light attack operations or even a support during a large fleet battle. It's weaponry and speed is considered quite good for such a small ship, yet it's armor is lacking considerably.

Image

Armament:

3x Multi-barreled Pulse beam cannons
6x Point defense turrets
1x High power rail cannon
3x shield arrays

Comet class Cruiser:

The Comet is one of the prize ships of UPF. It's weaponry and armor are suburb as it sports the newest in fusion generator technology, allowing for 4 powerful particle beam cannons as well as the drive capacity to accommodate a large amount of armor plating.

Armament:

4x Particle Beam cannons
6x Thor ship to ship missile launchers
6x Point Defense turrets
3x Shield arrays

Tri-star class battleship:

The tri-star is used as flag ship for any UPF spearhead and is usually the focal point of any communications and intelligence. The ship is well armored and well armed, able to take any other ship in the fleet with ease.

Image

Armament:

1x Particle Beam Cannon
6x Multi-Barreled Beam Cannons
10x Thor ship to ship missile launchers
8x Point Defense Turrets
2x High powered Rail Cannon Turrets
5x shield arrays

The Tri-star test firing the front mounted Particle Beam cannon and Multi-barreled Beam cannons.

More to come probably. Again c&c welcome. Thanks for your time.

These are some sturdy looking ships! I didn't see your originals but these look to be well rounded. Relativity streamlined, not too much weapon crowding or repetition, and I really like what you did with the triangles in the center of the tri-star.

On the Comet, looks to be offset pieces on the sides, is that on purpose? Asymmetry is great, but wasn't sure if it was a mirroring error or just really subtle...

Interesting ship design going on here, i see none of the usual ship making mistakes.

Now for some suggestions, i can only think of one at the moment and that is make the engines seem more defined. Just something stylistic you might want to consider.

These are pretty interesting ships! The little A-symmetry on the comet is kind of cool, and the over all shapes of the ships are good as well.
Nice job :)

Yes, the asymmetry on the comet is intentional, good question though.

Thank you for all the kind comments I appreciate them. Any suggestion on how to make said engines more 'defined'?

Here is a download for anyone that cares:

More possible on the way. I'll see what I can do when I get off work tonight.

Any particular reason you don't host the download here? Or was it just too big to be uploaded into the Archives? Anyway, therse are some fairly decent ships. Nothing especially new or innovative, but they're solidly built and they look nice. Only major thing I'd say is to avoid using Section 26 so much on larger ships. I know it's tempting because it's such a large section and looks like it'd be good for filling in space, much of the time it just makes things look awkward. The section doesn't really blend well with the other sections in the game, so it takes a bit of work to get it to look right.

Over-all, however, they look quite good. The Tri-star's outer shape is particularly interesting. The others need a bit of work to stand out. The whole "long, chunky, blocky ship" has been done to death so many times that it's hard to make ones that really stand out from the rest.

Just my two cents, thought I'd share. Don't give up due to lack of comments, that's always a sad thing to see. I think I need to start commenting in threads more often.

Well I've never looked into posting it in the archives so I don't know how to. Plus I have a filefront account going to waste for the most part, so why not?

Thanks for the compliments, and I agree but I often have a hard time piecing together ships without making them too busy looking, thus I try to use large pieces to fill in some empty space as well as give some for the eye to rest. Any suggestions on how else to do this?

Also, a majority of my ships are rather standard looking. I have a hard time coming up with original shapes or designs without them looking like crap. Thus I kept and continue posting rather blocky, albeit well built traditional ships. Again, any suggestions would be great.

I need to start posting and do less lurking as well. It truly is sad to see people give up because of no one's effort to show interest.
