How about some nifty Kagu-style engines? That's be nice.

I would swear there are engine trails in HW. Its been awhile since I played it so it might just be certain races but I even looked up screenshots and it has them...I remember because it made it easier to track fighters and such...

I like aegis engines but try multiple sections with multiple colors of aegis. I like 17 and 13...It covers up the details on each section and just makes a nice glowy blob. You set them to black and it gives it a softer look.

You gonna make Sajuuk? I know it wouldnt be very exciting looking but would make for fun weapon modding...

The only engine trails were presented on Strike Craft, (Fighters and Corvettes), recon probes, and Harvesters (Workers on Cataclysm). Other ships had the large blobby glow behind the thrusters.

You could set the thruster exhaust frequency high enough so that it looks like a continuous glow, which makes a nice fluctuating effect, but it'd only work if your ships moved slowly enough for the exhaust to stack properly.

If you were motivated enough, you could use 0 speed pulsars with 10,000 range and 360 degree deviation to simulate a short engine trail.

Short? Motivated? It looks more like this to me...

"If you were crazy enough, you could use 0 speed pulsars with 10,000 range and 360 degree deviation to simulate a OMGLONG engine trail of computer rape."
Though the other image it gives me is funny...

Oh yeah, forgot about that part, silly me.

Ok, so I'm trying to decide between one glowy blob, like the aegis wall I started with but perhaps deeper in the middle, a couple of glowy blobs to represent the engine outlets, or a couple of hard glowy shapes to show the engines 'sticking out'. The last pic would fit into the first category. I'm also open to other ideas. Or of course I could just leave as is...

jwa - I had been thinking of using black sections for the engine glow - does it work well? I'll be having a look when I've got more direction about what to do with the fleet atm.

Correction, I meant Anty. Although I think he got them from Kagu, but whatever.

So that would be third option - hard glowy shapes to show the engines? I'll experiment around a bit, I think...

You might get away with thruster banks, the module kind. Higaaran ships are all about the thruster nozzles, and I think you can mod them to not leave puffy trails? It's been a while. I don't think BSF is very suited to recreating the engine glows of Homeworld, and your attempts so far, noble though they are, don't change my mind any. Plus they give the look that the engines are blazing even when the ship is standing still.

I don't love the Higaaran fleet, but you're doing a great job of translating it, overall. The ships are from the PDS mod, yes?

All bar the light cruiser, assault cruiser and multi-gun corv are stock, with added pd guns. On the subject of which, all aggressive components of the pd guns need a nerf, since they are nailing fighters too well...

Eh, I don't think a long line of thruster modules would work so good... If having a big glow even whilst stationary was a concern for me, I'd probably just do away with the entire thing. But no, I've got an idea that I think I'll go with, so stay tuned...

BTW Siber those are some nice ships you've been making - makes me wish I had got into 3D modelling :)
