My First Ships

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

My First Ships

Post by se7en »

Thhese are my first few ships that i have made, I would like to know what you think of them and wonder if you could give me any comments/suggestions on what to do to improve them

The Antares is a general purpose ship with a mainly broadside weapon layout (I'm not happy with the frontal missile any suggestions for a replacement?)

The Cepheid Station is a large heavily armed station designed for repair/defense

The Eletanius Battle cruiser is primarily designed to work well when surrounded and as a main assault ship (I don't like the scatter beamers that much, any suggestions for replacements?)

The Deimos is a short range ship designed to overwhelm PD and do high damage to all but the toughest opponents

The vascud is designed to provide long range support in exchange for poor short range combat abilities

The Tuchanka is a support ship Designed to help more combat oriented ships survive longer

The salaux carrier is designed to over whelm PD and deal massive damage in exchange for only one conventional weapon and easily exploited weakpoints

The Phobos is designed to deal lots of damage over long range but is rather weak against plasma weapons and flanking

The Tuchanka looks quite good as for the other ones i would suggest using a few less weapons on them.

Not bad, need to work on weapons placement, though.

These are very good for a new member. I especially like the station.

The weapon spam and the aegis whore is sexy.

Uh, I don't think you're in any position to talk, since your first ships were very shit.

These ships are really nicely made. I personally am a fan of aegis, and I don't think he's really over done the weapons TOO much on any of his ships, though I will agree that a lot of those could be condensed into a lower number of edited weapons.

Your carrier design may have a bit too much aegis. Those supposedly exposed pylons holding the outer demeters are probably a lot harder to hit in reality than you'd think, especially since aegis'd pieces tend to have some strange hitboxes at times.

Not bad for a first set of ships overall, though.

First you flame me, THEN agree with me.

WTF?

The ships rock, but try to edit the weapons.

that was what he was looking for, sure

anyhoo, Ninteen does raise the valid point that some of some of these ships (with the notable exceptions of the Station, to some degree the Deimos, and the Tuchanka) are overarmed. Again, work on modding your weapons so that just one weapon can take on the role of many, it just generally improves the looks of your ships (For example, the frontal "arc" of railguns and missiles on the Eletanius could probably be remade)

The other main complaint that could be leveled against your ships would be aegis spam. Again, just try to go for more decorative usage, which you seem to be pretty much doing so far. However, try to avoid using too much (the Salaux Carrier for example is perhaps a bit over the line (i could be wrong though)), even though it "looks shiny :) " it's just somewhat of a general turnoff.

In general, these are nice ships, especially for somone just starting out (not that i'm one to talk  ) Just work on getting a consistant look going (you definately have a connection between all your ships, the one problem i can see is that the similarity between two ships might not be the same similarity that 2 others share (if that makes any sense) Basically, tone down the weapons a bit, make sure to avoid overuse of aegis (except for purely decorative purposes, in which case be sure to state that you are using it for purely decorative purposes) and just try to go for a general style. Oh, and the reason everyone loves the station so much (i believe) is that it just has a general sense of flowiness to it. Try to, even while being angular, create a generally rounded sense of a ship and they'll definetly get better.

or i could be wrong  .

Quite frankly I thought it was ridiculous that you would point out those flaws specifically when a lot of your earlier ships (a few days ago) were huge aegised and weapon filled abominations :/

I'm pretty sure you have suck ass ships in a hidden file somewhere.

I don't like the colour scheme.

Actually, my first ship was pretty aesthetically pleasing (well, in the sense that it didn't look like COMPLETE ass, although it was an aegis-whoring little thing), so stop talking out of your ass, ninteen.
