EFSS Shipyard Alpha - UPDATE 12/12/08

Post by Blade Skydancer »

Shipyard Alpha, a top-secret naval facility where the top-brass and the highest minds of the Earth Defense Forces Navy, aka Earthfleet, meet, discuss and eventually build the tools to keep Earth safe. This top-secret facility has seen more and more traffic recently, with the sudden Rebel outbreak. Their higher technology vessels have prompted the station to be re-opened so that Earthfleet can begin researching new technologies to fight the Rebel alliances.

NOTE TO ADMINS: Please delete all other posts that include info and pictures of ships. From now on only the first post will contain info and pictures.

Welcome to Shipyard Alpha; the resting place for all of my (Blade Skydancer's) ship creations. I feel this is enough intro, so let's get right down to it and start posting up some ships.

This is the Shipyard Alpha database, which contains information about all Earthfleet ships, subject to military approval.

UPDATE 12/12/2008: -- Added the Freya, Freyr and Nidhoggr-class ships to the Earthfleet database. Next to come: Thor-class battleship, Flagship Yggdrasil, Asgard-class C&C station

-- FIGHTERS AND SUPPORT CRAFT --
Fighters are small, usually one-manned attack craft which support the much larger ships. Classifications include light, medium, heavy and super-heavy fighters and bombers. Support craft are auxiliary military vessels that serve in a non-combat role.

BERSERKER Mk-VII
Image
ROLE: Light defender/interceptor.
Length: 5m
Weight: 300t
Wingspan: 6.5m
Armor: 3mm titanium/tungsten plated
Armament: 2x Spear light anti-fighter autocannons
Propulsion: 2x ion motivation pylons, 1x emergency fusion thruster
The Berserker is one of the oldest raw designs in Earthfleet archives, dating back almost 200 years at the beginning of the Colonization Era. This particular model is the 7th incarnation, bearing 2 60mm autocannons as its only weapons. It's designed to be fast and maneuverable to catch enemy fighters and bombers by surprise.

VANIR Mk-V
Image
ROLE: Heavy attack fighter, bomber escort
Length: 9m
Weight: 650t
Wingspan: 7.55m
Armor: 5.5mm titanium/tungsten plated
Armament: 3x Lance heavy anti-fighter autocannons, 4x light anti-fighter missile hardpoints
Propulsion: 2x ion motivation pylons, 1x emergency fusion thruster
This design is about as old as the Berserker, dating back 125 years to the first inter-stellar war between Earth and two of her colonies. Then, the Earth council saw a need to create a larger fighter capable of withstanding the tides of gunfire and able to quickly eliminate opposing fighters. Thus, the Vanir was born.

VALKYRIE Mk-V
Image
ROLE: Anti-capital ship bomber
Length: 14m
Weight: 140t
Wingspan: 10.5m
Armor: 5mm inner tungsten plating, 8mm tungsten/titanium ablative plating
Armament: 2x Lance heavy anti-fighter autocannons, 1x rearward Spear light anti-fighter autocannon, 8x light anti-fighter missile hardpoints, 18x Ragnarok anti-capital torpedo hardpoints.
Propulsion: 2x ion motivation pylons, 1x heavy-duty emergency thruster
Created at the same time as the Vanir, the Valkyrie was born to take care of enemy capital vessels, which consisted of unused, converted colony ships left over after the expansion in the Colonization Era. Such ships were formidable and could capture starbases if they slipped through defenses. Earthfleet needed a ship that could quickly, and efficiently destroy a capital vessel, and this is that ship.

-- CAPITAL VESSELS --
A capital vessel is any warship that must be manned by more than two people. They are large, powerful warships, but without fighter support, can be easily destroyed by incoming bombers. Classifications from lighest to heaviest are: gunship/corvette GS, frigate FF, destroyer DD, cruiser(light, strike, heavy) CL CS CA, battlecruiser BC, dreadnought DN, carrier CV, battleship BB, titan FS.

BEYLA-CLASS GS
Image
ROLE: Anti-fighter capital ship
Classification: Gunship
Length: 25m
Displacement: 2500t
Armor: 4mm inner tungsten plating, 12mm tungsten/titanium ablative plating.
Armament: 8x 120mm engagement cannons, 8x 65mm anti-fighter autocannons.
Propulsion: 2x ionic flux pylons
The first true warship ever created and the only one still based off of the 200-year old architecture of the Colonization Era. When colonial forces managed to break the line of Earthfleet and started attacking starbases, there was a need for a vessel that could eliminate multiple targets at once; particularly bombers that could destroy other capital ships. Created post-haste, the Beyla-class proved itself in combat as something that can eliminate multiple fighters with only one ship, where it would take a whole squadron of Vanirs and Berserkers to accomplish the same effort.

TYR-CLASS FF
Image
ROLE: Light assault/defense capital ship
Classification: Frigate
Length: 40m
Displacement: 6000t
Armor: 6.5mm inner tungsten plating, 20mm tungsten/diamond steel plating
Armament: 16x 200mm engagement cannons, 2x 100mm gauss cannons, 4x 65mm anti-fighter autocannons, 2x flak cannons.
Propulsion: 2x ionic motivation drives
While the colonials were busy nearly breaking themselves on the heavily-defended starbases, the very first shipyard, Shipyard Alpha, had begun construction on the newest classification of warship; the formidable Tyr-class frigate. At its time, it was the largest and most powerful vessel in the Colonies, easily able to wipe out the colony ships that could barely take on the starbase defenders themselves. Earthfleet actually let the Colonies take everything up to Earth before unveiling their new secret weapon, reestablishing order in a handful of months, rather than the years projected it would take with converted colony vessels and Beyla-class gunships. With the advent of gauss weapon technology, this ship recieved a refit, giving it two more powerful weapons

HEL-CLASS DD
Image
ROLE: Anti-frigate and gunship capital ship, light assault capital ship
Classification: Destroyer
Length: 75m
Displacement: 9000t
Armor: 9.0mm inner diamond steel plating, 24mm ablative tungsten plating
Armament: 28x 200mm engagement cannons, 12x 100mm gauss cannons, 6x 70mm anti-fighter autocannons, 2x flak cannons
Propulsion: 2x ionic motivation drives
Unlike her sister ships, the Hel-class was not forged in war. In fact, it is a result of peace-time, though in the escalating tensions between Earth and the outer colonies. It seems once again we are on the brink of war, and this vessel was designed specifically for war. While other ships had a defensive mindset in their construction, the Hel-class is pure killing power, designed to take down frigates, gunships and even cruisers quickly and efficiently; without the need of an expensive carrier and wing of bombers.

FREYR-CLASS CL/FREYA-CLASS MCL
Image
Image
ROLE: CL: Heavy escort, fleet defense, light assault ship. MCL: Long-range bombardment.
Classification: Light Cruiser/Light Missile Cruiser
Length: 95m
Displacement: 14000t
Armor: 12.5mm inner diamond steel plating, 35mm outer ablative tungsten plating
Armrament: CL: 22x 200mm engagement cannons, 10x light gauss cannons, 8x 70mm anti-fighter autocannon turrets, 3 flak turrets. MCL: 6x torpedo tubes, 96x light missile tubes, 10x 200mm engagement cannons, 8x 70mm anti-fighter autocannon turrets, 3 flak turrets.
Originally created to provide police support to starbases, the Freyr-class cruiser and Freya-class missile refit are excellent light assault and support ships. The Freyr-class is most known for its service in the Battle of Sela III, in which 1 Freyr and 1 Freya class singlehandedly defended themselves against waves of outer colony Rebel gunships and frigates.

NIDHOGGR-CLASS CA
Image
ROLE: Assault ship
Classification: Heavy Cruiser
Length: 120m
Displacement: 19500t
Armor: 17mm inner diamond steel plating, 41mm ablative tungsten armor
Armrament: To be finished
Add info when less tired.
-- STATIONS --
While Shipyard Alpha is mostly concerned with Earthfleet's ships, it also contains valuable information about the stations used by Earthfleet.

VALHALLA-CLASS STATION
Image
ROLE: Long-rage refueling and repair platform. Can be used as a makeshift fighter shipyard.
Class: Type-4 Station
Berths: 6 small ship berths, 4 large ship berths
The Valhalla-class station was originally created to help bridge the gaps between the Colony worlds. The ionic reaction used to propel ships faster than light eats up a lot of fuel, so the forerunner colony ships carried materials to construct these stations in their wake, linking normal ship travel from Earth and the Sol system into the Inner and Outer Colonies.

SIEGE RAILGUN PLATFORM
Image
ROLE: Starbase assault
Classification: Assault platform
When it became apparent that sieges of starbases would be necessary against the uprising in the Outer Colonies, this weapon was concocted. A small, gunship-sized immobile station that can destroy large portions of starbases and hopefully disarm it so that the landing crews can safely land and take it over.

Shipyard Alpha also keeps a comprehensive list of Rebel ships and technologies. This Rebel ship data will help to improve our ships in the future, and may even allow us to employ some of the technologies used aboard their ships.

It's unclear where the Outer Colony Rebels get their technologies, but they're far advanced over our own.

-- REBEL SUPPORT VESSELS --

CARRIAGE-CLASS TT
Image
ROLE: Carrier for the Cataclysm Missile
Classification: Transport
Length: Approx 100m
Displacement: Approx 10000t
Armor: 5cm diamond weave plating
Armament: None
Carried Ships: 10x Cataclysm Missile
Propulsion: Ionic Diffusion Drives
The Carriage-class is a fragile machine, however it carries a very important payload, the Cataclysm Missile. No other means of transporting the delicate and dangerous missiles is as safe or reliable as the Carriage-class. By using an advanced array of tractor beams, the missiles are held in place and prevented from receiving any shock from travel. However, if the missiles are shot, they can be destroyed still. Rumor has it that the Rebels are evolving their shielding systems to protect these dangerous devices while in-transport.

-- REBEL SUPER WEAPONS --

CATACLYSM MISSILE
Image
ROLE: Utter annihilation of anything it contacts
Classification: N/a
Length: 6m
Displacement: 40t
Yield: 3.2Gt
Type: Directional ionic fusion charge, cone pattern
The most powerful weapon in the Rebels arsenal, and the most powerful weapon ever created by humanity. One missile is enough to destroy most of our ships, and a handful of them can utterly annihilate even the largest of starbases. The ship carrying them should be eliminated as fast as possible, and if the missiles themselves survive the resultant blast, they too be destroyed before they can be launched. If the Cataclysm missile has already been launched, direct all fire on it, and do *not* let it get through. Failure to stop a cataclysm missile is an offense punishable by death.

He already posted up some samples in the Gallery. Have some more patience for fuck's sake, some people like to get the basics down, then edit stuff in as they go.

Earthfleet Small Ships

Post by Blade Skydancer »

Sorry about the wait, I was capturing Ship Builder pictures of the ships themselves. Prepare for extreme megapost.

The ships are ordered lightest to heaviest.

EDIT: Thanks for the help, I've resized the weapons of the Berserker, Valkyrie and Vanir to appropriate levels. It makes them look all the better.

BERSERKER Mk-VII

The designs of the smaller ships are interesting, the weapons are too big though. You can scale them and make them smaller, press F1 in the ship builder and the instructions on how will show up

Sadly i can't remember them off the top of my head ^^"

I think the button for the resizing the weapons was a and q.

So yeah, the ships look pretty good design wise, just resize the weapons seeing how they mostly kill the looks on the smaller ships.

Also, when it comes to weapons, in my opinion, ships don't always need to be filled with them so much specialy when it comes to bigger ships.

Valhalla-class berth

Post by Blade Skydancer »

Another update today, I might do more if I still feel inclined to do so. This time, I decided to challenge myself, creating a repair drydock. The end-result is the Valhalla-class. Included in the screenshot are Berserker and Vanir fighters, Valkyrie bombers, Tyr-class frigates, Hel-class destroyers and even a sneak peek at the nearly-complete Freyr-class light cruiser! Enjoy.

Just pinned down what was bothering me!

The engine blocks on the larger ships aren't well blended into the hull.

Right now they look rather flimsy. :|

Siege Railgun Platform

Post by Blade Skydancer »

Hello, today I come to you with another station. However, this one's tiny(as far as stations go), but it's effectively a gunship-sized railgun. Why would this be necessary? The starbases are *huge* and require massive siege weapons to destroy. The Rebels get an equivalent, the Siege Ion Cannon.

That would probably work better if it were just a really slow ship.

A station would have to fire than go through a whole rotation.

Its movement stats are the same as the Valhalla, speed 0.01, accel 0.01, turn 0.00.
