Warships of the Interstellar Union

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Warships of the Interstellar Union

Post by Lord-General Thunder »

Blueshift-class Escort
Image
Early variants of the Blueshift-class (such as the Mark III, pictured above) are deployed throughout the Interstellar Union. Commonly used as rapid-response units, they are generally the first to encounter the enemy, and thusly, Blueshift crews suffer the heaviest losses among all Navy personnel. While even a single vac-cannon can slag a sprawling metropolis in the blink of an eye, the Blueshift is, nevertheless, lightly-armed.

Guardian-class Star Frigate
Image
An older design, the Guardian is a rugged and tireless system defender. Triple vac-cannons ensure that the enemy will be hard-pressed to simply run past without taking serious damage, although it suffers from poor maneuverability for its size. Some examples of the star frigate are nearly as old as the Interstellar Union itself.

Well, there's more coming later, but what do you folks think so far?

Well, given that I've seen the whole fleet...

They're not bad ships, very efficient and realistic; this, of course, comes at the cost of a colour scheme or fancy lines.

43 views and one comment from a guy who's already seen the fleet.

I gotta go to work.

They're decent, if small, designs. The Guardian is actually quite good. Simplistic, and yet well structured and put together. Good job. Keep it up.

Yea their pretty good. While I prefer color. The "Gun metal" scheme works well.

Very nice simple ships. Good job on the Guardian. I'm looking forward to the rest of the fleet.

Thanks all for the comments! I'm afraid that, yet again, other responsibilities prevent me from posting all that I'd like, but at least you get to see the rest of the Navy as it stands for the moment.

Hammer-class Star Cruiser

Cataclysm-class Artillery Cruiser

Victory-class Star Battleship

The UWS Halix.

A few notes; All weapons are modified to some extent. Vac-cannons are about twice as efficient as blasters, though the ships themselves are fragile for their size compared to the stock ships. The flak guns work a bit like the American Phalanx missile defense, tossing a burst of flak shells into the path of incoming projectiles.

Torpedoes are very high-speed, about three times normal, long-ranged, and cause massive damage on impact. They fire infrequently to balance this, however.

The Cataclysm-class is armed with an oversized vac-cannon that can reduce battleships to molten metal in seconds.

I'll be posting the other factions in other threads. Questions? Comments? Flames? :P

There's a bit of repetition on the Hammer and Victory that I wouldn't mind playing with; otherwise, they look pretty solid.

Seconded. Out of all the ships you have posted thus far, I am a particular fan of the Guardian-Class vessel (as seems to be the case of a lot of people posting here).

Now, I may just watch entirely too many movies, but would your Victory-Class Star Battleship happened to be inspired by the Imperial Starship class of the same name? I only ask this because your's seems to have that triangle shape in it's body.

The other ships that you have posted. They aren't fancy, with color schemes, doodads, aegis's, etc etc. However, I know the reason for this, and for the size that they are, they look good. Keep up the good work!
No, wait, go back! Why are there six pedals if there are only four directions?

The new ships are looking good. The design for the Cataclysm seems a bit out of place with the rest of the fleet though. The Vindicator and the Victory are my favorites.

Really? That's hilarious. The Guardian is what happened when I cut the nose off the Deterrence-class out of boredom.

lol.

Let me assure you, any resemblance is purely by accident. I thought of the name after I designed the ship. I'm familiar with the Imperial Victory-class, and do have a liking for dagger-form warships, though.

This one doesn't really fall under the same category as the Imperial Victory Star Destroyer, measuring in at some 8-9 km in length, to the former's <1 km.

Thats a fair few megatonnes of starship there.

Thanks alot! :D

Yeah, I was afraid folks might think that.

The original resembled the Hammer and was supposed to have an axial vac-cannon (ala Homeworld Ion Cannon frigates... but bigger :D) However, this didn't work out the way I wanted it to, and just ended up looking very weird when the gun fired off-axis. So I designed this newer version with a more obvious cooling system and a turret-mounted vacuum artillery cannon.

I think it conveys the dedicated mobile gun system feeling more effectively.
