My Entry into Original... the Damascus Dreadnought.
TormakSaber wrote:I've made a lot of ships lately... and posted none of them... but I wanted to make this post for just the ship I'm proudest of myself for making. It's my first... well, second if you count the Hive Mind... but first major Terran Dreadnought. It took me way too long to finalize and make, and I have little doubt it's over the top powerwise, but that's due to the scale of the game. It's big, it's bad and I <3 it.
I present the Damascus Dreadnought, stationed here on a routine patrol through a Terran sector that was experiencing severe pirating issues. It no longer suffers from pirating issues. Fleet HQ has uploaded a radar link to a stationary shot of the Damascus Dreadnought below:
~~~
Damascus: The Damascus is far from a recent develompment. Project God Sword was the codename for the project, and the only human eyes to ever see the schematics were the company that was contracted to build it. To date, the schematics are still kept under lock and key on Planet Earth, in a vault deep below ground. The Damascus Dreadnought rivals the ship recently seen and piloted by Nagaya in his rampage of Fleet HQ, and comes not a moment too soon to help the Terran War Effort. Requiring its own special docking facilities, the Damascus is for now limited to patrols in one sector at a time until fueling issues can be worked out to allow it to range farther out.
The trademark of the Damascus is the blade-like prow, with the noticeable feather-spread "crossguard" near the rear. Two sidearms mount a pair of specially created 5-chamber Railguns, and the "feather-spread" itself is home to a dizzying array of blasters. The prow, as well a the rear "Wings" are lined with Pulse Cannon arrays, modified to allow for longer ranged volleys. The center of the ship is home to a set of modules, including a Flux Projector, and a pair of Nanomatrices, allowing the Damascus to make its own repairs on the spot. A dizzying array of no less than *thirteen* Deflectors is stationed on a power core near the rear of the behemoth. Fighter bays along exterior of the main "rectangle" allow for drones to be unleashed upon the enemy. Cluster Rocket Packs mounted in an angle position to cover wider angles, provide widespread flak-fire into a cloud of targets. A foursome of rearmounted, specially designed and compacted Plasma Charges carry further than the average Plasma Torpedo before exploding, allowing the extra momentum to be transformed into a larger blast radius. A set of sixteen AI-coordinated Particle Guns is inset into the middle of the ship to allow for concentrated point defense. Finally, middle-mounted beamer arrays allow for offensive attacks, even when the Flux Projector is in use.
The Damascus has yet to meet its match in Terran Combat Simulations, proving itself capable of hadlng fleet size combat on its own, only suffering minor amounts of damage. Noted flaws in the design to may or may not be worked out due to the exorbitant cost (The Damascus was a multi-*billion* dollar project; only one is in existence, hence the use of heay simulations as opposed to real combat): Concentrated point defense does not allow for coverage as wide as it could be. Railgun wings are relatively exposed compared to the rest of the ship. Nanomatrices are effective but not wide-ranged enough to cover about half of the prow. Firepower is most heavily concentrated to the front-sides; enemies should be kept to just slightly left or right of the center of the prow.
Here's my entry into the Fleet category:
The MDF (Massive Defense Force
) was created to help defend the colonies against the masses of aliens that have been preying on (formerly
) defenseless locals. The ships dispatched to assist are chosen based on the priority of the request for help, which allows minor disturbances to be dealt with without leaving any areas vulnerable. The ships themselves are designed for practicality, without much regard for aesthetics. However, several of the ships have a form of subtle beauty hidden in their industrial design.
If a Category has less than three entrants, then I'm simply going to scrap it.Da_Higg wrote:Great, now we have to actually run this catagory...
And I would like some more Original Ships to be submitted too. The more, the merrier, I say!
All right. Well... there's a free Judging position open, now. RRoan has dibs on it, if she'd still like the position.Boba Fetuccini wrote:seeing you have two other judges, I'm dropping my position so I can enter.
Can't waiit to see your ships, Boba!
Ships are all labeled.
History of the Theta Fleet.
If you started on a course from earth to the galactic core, eventually you would encounter a small plant called Thesia. Long ago, Terran explorers DID find the Thesians on their way to the GC. Thesians are/were a very humble species, who would rather work for others than be a lord over anything, and happily joined the Terran Federation. Ever since they joined, they have happily served on their home planet making spacecraft parts. Spacecraft became a Global pastime, and the Thesians began work on their own ships for the pleasure of it.
Some times later, the Thesians somehow began being called Thetans. The Thetans, as noted earlier, liked to serve, and began building mercenary ships... but unfortunately, disaster struck when one of these mercenary ships crossed an unknown species and angered them. Theta, as it was now called, was destroyed completely, all that is left to this date is a hunk of black rock in an asteroid field. The remaining thetans banded together, and with the little recources they had, finished what is now Theta Fleet.
The Thetans serve for free, happily undoing wrongs, and fighting for causes that they believe in. Thetans have a triangle fetish, and love the use of spikes, pontoons, wings, and pointed noses in their design. Originally, there were 11 ships in Theta Fleet, full list of ships below.
Theta 1: Tactical Strike Craft. Fast, low armor, low weapons.
Theta 2: Protector. Armed with only a few, but powerful weapons, and fitted with two large deflector arrays, Theta 2 is often used to protect Theta 1 from damage.
Theta 3: Siege Ship. Armed with stolen Gosling Technology, Theta 3 can sit at the back of a battle and launch wave after wave of devastating siege projectiles.
Theta 4: Superprotector. Heavily armed with massive missile tubes, and armored with aegis shields and two flux projectors, the purpous of this ship is to go in full and blow up as much stuff as possible while the rest of the fleet warps in.
Theta 5: Carrier. 5 contains 6 miniature demeter drone fabrication facilities, as well as numerous kamikaze drone launchers for a hard hitting boom.
Theta 6: Destroyed in battle.
Theta 7: General Purpose. Has a variety of moduls and weapons for an all-use battleship.
Theta 8: Destroyed in battle.
Theta 9: Ignited by stellar particles and destroyed.
Theta 10: Command Ship. Fitted for All-Purpose use. Flagship of the Thetan Commander.
Oy now! Let's not discard the Fanship listing just yet!
Here's my submission.
Solarian Siba Numtar [Perpetrator-Class Assault Picket Ship]
The Solarians are one of the greater mysteries of the universe. An ancient race whose relics and derelicts can be almost everywhere. No one has so far encountered a live solarian, although their bodies have been discovered.
The average Solarian resembled two discs floating side by side connected by a complex web of tiny neural strands. They seemed to have originally developed in the upper levels of gas giants, where atmosphere is thin and the coldness of vacuum ever-present. Although capable of living in vacuum and whitstanding several thousand degrees of pressure, they seemed to be very fragile beings. Their discs' surfaces are thin paper-like materials, allowing for free passage of gas between the outside world and the disc's interior.
Terran's first contact with the Solarians came in the Sirius Alpha system, just before the founding of the first colonies there. Two explorer ships and a destroyer came across the ruins of a Si'rtha Numtar vessel in near-perfect condition. The vessel was floating through the system with a thirteen degree deviance from the galactic core median, and at an average speed of just 450 feet per second. The vessel's external parts were observed glowing with an odd semi-passive-hertz pattern. The first explorer vessel that approached was fired upon and immediately destroyed. The second explorer vessel stayed out of the observed radius of gunfire while the destroyer opened fire on the drifting ship. Most shots impacted with the glowing surfaces of the ship and dissipated, but one eventually found its mark, slamming into an unprotected hull plate and tearing the ship to pieces. In a near-comic manner, the entire ship slowly fell apart and began drifting off in various directions. With all weapons powered down, the explorer vessel was able to approach and gather some preliminary data on the vessel. The findings are presented below in Standard Fleet Identification Format (SFIF).
Race: Solarian [Ancient, upper galactic swirl, gas giant, mid-dwarf, Sirius Alpha+]
Name: Siba [Perpetrator]
Class: Numtar [Assault Picket Ship Class]
Hull Integrity: 120 [Estimated, as low as 75 has been observed in other vessels]
Hull Configuration: Forward-flow side-dissipating energy emission
Power Core: 30 Unknown-class Solar Sail Collectors
Engines: 30 Unknown-class Solar Sails
Engine Performance:
Speed: 10 [estimated]
Acceleration: 2 [estimated]
Turn Rate: Unknown, extremely fast
Crew: Unknown [Estimates range between 7 and 8]
Shield Technology: 30 Permanent Shields [Aegis Deflector-class], 8 Replenishable Shields [Deflector-class]
Weapons Technology:
2x Unknown-class Railgun Devices:
Range: 4000 N/m
Firepower: 2000 MnU/s
Reload: 5000 [cca. 125 seconds]
Angle of Fire: 20 degrees forward
Description: A single-shot railgun-like device that fires what appears to be a molecular substance similar to brass, but with a much less stable chemical and nuclear balance.
4x Unknown-class Beam Devices:
Range: 1000 N/m
Firepower: 50 MnU/s
Reload: 100 [cca. 2.5 seconds]
Angle of Fire: 90 degrees from turret facing
Description: A cohesive rapid-fire beam with decent range
1x Unknown-class Point Defence System
Range: 500 N/m
Firepower: Unknown
Reload: Impossible to measure, near instantaneous
Angle of Fire: 360 [estimated]
Description: A point-beam defence system capable of intercepting nearly any projectile fired at the ship.
Description:
Although incredibly formidable in speed, shielding, and offensive power, the Siba suffers from the same problem as all other Solarian ships. Its hull is weak, its energy distribution grid awful. The energy that is channeled from the solar collectors is often used to keep the ship together, as the structural ties are not strong enough to do so on their own. The ship seems to be built for prolonged engagements, but is poorly built to do so. Its weaponry is stand-offish in nature, and does not cover 360 degrees of the ship, leaving its rear extremely unprotected. Although deadly against projectiles and fighters, the Siba's only defence against beam and laser weapons is the shields incorporated in its hull. Unfortunately, only some of those shields, namely those protecting the solar collectors, are supplied with enough energy to stay online all the time - the others, positioned too far away from the source of energy, are prone to overloading due to the bad energy management network. Furthermore, reliance on single-hull armour design leaves the ship structurally weak. Several well-placed shots on unprotected areas of the ship do not only spell disaster, but spell ultimate doom.
In terms of technological exploitation, the ships have posed an engineering nightmare. Most of the substances and materials that the ships are made out of cannot be found in the local galaxy plane, and seem to originate from somewhere else within the universe. The solar sails in particular, though incredibly efficient, cannot be grafted onto any of our ships. The weapons, likewise, tend to melt the hulls of the ships they are grafted onto. Any type of reverse engineering is impossible since the items cannot be taken apart - they instantly vaporize the moment they are opened. No one understands whether this is a product of intent, or just pure luck on the Solarians' behalf.
As such, the value of the ships is merely of a curious nature. No Terran captain should risk any fleet assets in pursuing these ships. They are highly dangerous and unpredictable, and no two conflicts with their automated defenses have so far produced the same results.
Approach with caution, or better yet, avoid altogether.
