Here's what I imagine in-game:

However, I have two problems: First, I get some weird black areas on the should-be transparent parts of the gun (look closely on the pic above).

Also, like I said, I can't mirror the weapons without getting fatal crash errors when I try to spawn the ship in Sandbox. What's up with that?

EDIT:

Could the black areas appearing on the should-be transparent areas on the sprite be caused by my usage of non-opaque brushes on the black background in GIMP?
