Random acts of violence with shipmaker

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Can you not be a fucking idiot for once? It is not too wide at all and the Jwa's style generally involves a lot of detailed sections. ALso there is nothing wrong with the depthing.

Jwa: The ship is pretty nice overall and as maarten said the front landing deck does seem to appear out of nowhere. The forward most auto cannons seem slightly of place also.

Blocky front with antennas, check. Will neaten it up, but is that what you were imagining?

Will probably widen up the middle to carry heavier weapons, but I am happier with some of the changes. Not sure what to do about the hanger, I used the door sprite so it would look more 3d but maybe I should try something different...

Experimenting with some minor outlining to show depth without adding more colors, probably won't keep it though. So far section count is at 137 so lag isn't a problem.

This is your best yet. Up until this ship, I'd been noticing a lot of what I call "level of detail" inconsistencies. In other words, some areas are loaded with tons and tons of detail while others are almost devoid of detail entirely. Looks like you've hit the sweet spot with this one, though. Detail is evenly distributed and tastefully rendered. Section choice is generally quite good (there's a few areas here and there that would benefit from a touchup), and I like the colors. The only thing I'd like to see is a bit of color variant depthing. I think this ship would benefit greatly from looking a bit less flat.

Blocky front looks really good.
Still thinking you should remove the front hangar, or make it look like the hangar is coming from somewhere. It still looks like the hangar is on top of anything else, so where are the ships stored? That's something you should think about.
Those HVRockets are really well hidden, ad some consistancy to this fleet.
Well, actually all ships really look great.
Did you finally use MGs on the bridge, or are the guns so sized down even my eyes fail?

About that front hanger... This is only in theory, but what if you added a pair of small grey lines parallel to the white ones? They might end up adding the effect that the lane is coming from the section to the right.

Ok so this is my last attempt at fixing that hanger. Though its not perfect you can see here how I was trying to make it appear 3d, but I agree that from a distance that isn't evident. Added a section to give it some angles as Shadowdump suggested. Yes/no? No problem with getting rid of it at this point...

That is actually a very helpful comment Sponge, but I'm afraid I've done that again here, what do you think? Its going to be a <s>command</s> Assault carrier but still got a bit to add on the front and a lot to clean up throughout the rest. Also seems to look very blurry in all screen shots even though I only stretched the one piece for the engines.
Image

Just for laughs cuz the Rorshac bullet is the only one I've found that looks similar to the SG chevron locks opening.

Thanks Maarten, your comments are really helping to bring this fleet together. I made the MGs more normal size because for some reason I actually had shrunk them by 50%.

Hmmm, not really sure about the assault carrier. The idea is executed well, with hangars all over the place. But the engines really ruin the ship, the ship looks like it should be strait, no wings, just the antenae and other thingies coming out of the side. I guess the 3 engine design would do. And the front would be better with angular runways. Like the ones on my carrier(Sorry but that's the only ship that I am sure has them.)

Not sure if I said this before but I really like the red-grey colour sheme.

I think the frontal hanger is improved by these changes, and I like the fighter, gives the ship more character, the little things, etc.

Ok, here is the fleet as it stands now. I just started on a battleship so I'll post that once the basic structure is complete.
Image
Messed with the runways so they would be angled more like a real carrier. Tried to fix the engines but still have a lot of cleanup work to do on the structure. The middle runways are meant to be like the ship in SW ep. 3... I will probably do a assault/pocket carrier with the asymmetrical runway setup like maarten's. 97 sections.

Image
Final version of Hazunberg light destroyer probably. Tried to balance out the weapons so it has a different weapons load-out than the Dauntless. 73 sections.

Image
Hopefullly the final version of the Dauntless heavy destroyer. Switched out the assault weaponry for beams. 98 sections.

Image
The Infallible cruiser. Should I keep the 'wings'? I thought it needed something, but 26s weren't my first choice... 140 sections.

Image
An unfinished assault frigate. I may make a regular one that is more scrawny, like a Nebulon B, but I always give in and add more armor...

Image
A corvette I suppose. Not really happy with it but I figured I needed to round out the fleet a bit with smaller ships.

Any comments or should I pack these up and release them once the battleship is done?

Not really what I meant with angled but still looks good.
The engines are fixed however.

The wings on the battleship are keepers, but need differant sections. And maybe flow better with the general shape. The angeld section in front and the section with the mg on it should line up with the wing, that will make it a lot better.

The frigatte is a bit colourless compared to the others, and maybe adding engines(steampack) to those sidepods makes it better.

Corvette thingie is indeed not that good. Maybe make some fighter for all those landing bays?

BTW could you just give me the engine sprite you are using, Danny isn't coöperating.

This will be a pocket carrier. Its only about two thirds done since I need to add the engines and armor. It will probably have a lot as it is designed to zip in and release it's birds under fire, then be able to act as fire support as it retreats.

I know theres too many detailed sections on one side, which I will try to remedy as I clean it up. Had the concept in my head and wanted to get it on paper asap.

Interesting, The ship is rather chaotic. And some of the landing/launch bays seem to stop in mid air. Weapon layout is nice. The rearmost section really stands out, were you going to add the engine there? And the antenae on the side look too fat.

I've made this hangar sprite some time ago, thought you might like it:

Edit it at will.
EDIT: I'm not advertising my section here.

Sorry I should have been clearer, its not done. There will be engines to the rear and upper side, and any gaps and such will be filled in. I was going for an asymmetric look though. Thank you for the sprite! I see now what you meant about angled, and that will make it a lot easier!

clever sig, hadn't heard that particular one before

The pocket carrier looks like it would make a great pirate ship withs its hodgepodge shape. And yet still its a nice ship; one thing though, I can't really say I like that KOBF section in the back next to the runway.

I've messed with the carrier a bit and removed that section, but it will probably go to the coop thread as a refueling ship converted to a carrier or something...

Been wanting to make a battleship but I'm having trouble getting it large enough in comparison to the other ships. This will be thickened considerably and the other third of the ship is still being designed.
