First fleet in Battleships forever: Stormbreaker fleet

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Here is the Dreadnaught. It was designed differently to give it a better overall shape is the unofficial excuse for it's different-ness from the rest of the fleet. The official excuse? Im new and i have no idea how to build a big ship. Enjoy!

And here is the first thunderbolt ship. Parenting isnt the best and no weapons have been added.

Also, on all of my ships, i have not yet altered the speed/HP etc of them. I want to get better at ship building before messing with that. Please rate :)

I'm calling euthanasia on these ships.

Rid them of their misery.

You really can't tell? You've made all those ships in the first post and you can't tell what's so wrong with these?

For one, the sections. I'm sure the parenting lines are partly to blame here, but still. This is what it looks like when my nephew throws a pile of Lego together. What you wanna do here is straighten them out, give them sort of a unified direction.

The color is also... bad. Not because I don't like yellow, but because it's all yellow. Shades really help, maybe some gray sections like your other ships.

Still, the shape is good. Try and keep that overall shape, and fix the inner sections. After that, try colouring. This should make them look a lot better.

I informed you of the reason i cannot coulor, i havent got time but critisim taken in. The spiky one (Thunderbolt Avenger) Is basically a large spike taped onto a trident ship i created to make it bigger. It was just to see if it worked which i thought it did but evidently it didnt :/

The other ships only have grey because of the fade effect :)

Who the hell do you think you are, T-002? Me? Well, you're not me, that's for certain. He made a lot of newbie mistakes, but that might be because *gasp* surprise surprise, motherfucker, he's a newbie. Now, if these were zomg outright horrible ships, then I might understand your toughguy attitude, but they're not horrible. They're not great, but neither is anything you've posted, and by the look of things, you haven't posted any ships for nearly a year. You're not exactly king-shit of shipbuilding town.

---------------
---------------

Moving on. Hey, deltaflyer, this is Anna here to offer some useful tips for shipbuilding beginners such as yourself. :D

Okay, first things first: Making an interesting outline is great, but some people focus too much on just the outline. The way to make a really awesome ship is to give it not just an interesting outline, but also to give it some internal depth and structure. It takes a while to get right for some, and a lot of practice, but in the end it's worth it.

As to colours. If you go into BSF, and then to options, you can set three individual colours for each faction. When building in shipbuilder, you can press "C" while you have a section selected to flip through these colours, so you can colour as you go. And then if you don't like it, it's as simple as just reselecting the section and pressing "C" to cycle through the different colours again. I understand that colouring can seem a daunting an tedious task when you're starting out (my first HUNDRED or so ships were all pretty much stock green), but it's definitely worth it in the long run.

If you ever need some shipbuilding advice, or questions about how to do shit in shipmaker, etc, just ask in here, or PM me, and I'll respond as quickly as I can. I'm definitely liking the way you're doing things, and I think with time and practice, you can only improve. Check out some of the ship threads here, and in the "Custom Ships Archive", for some ideas on how to improve, perhaps. Looking at how others do things is always helpful.

Good luck!

Thanks. How do I change the size of sections or can't that be done?

I try not to focus on the outline, most if not all of my ships are usually done with yes, a basic outline but i try to just build from inspiration/imagination :)

Im building a new stormbreaker ship now. Will post in about an hour.

Resizing involves the keys i and k and Shift-i and shift-k. Also F1 key is your friend.

Yeah, Press F1 in Shipmaker to bring up the readme, which includes all the different commands. It's quite useful.

The struts for the wings... big no no. Definitely not the way to do it. Cut out all the repetition and build it up again. The struts must go!.
