Random acts of violence with shipmaker

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

Download of the Dauntless now available! This is purely for testing, I will release a final version once I've corrected any mistakes you guys find.

Try it now!

Please remove the vulcannons. They look really awkward. The blue core also bothers me. Otherwise, this would be one of my favorite ships on the forum.

Thank you! Any suggestions for replacing the vulcan guns? I don't want to spam more acs... That blue was supposed to be windows or a bridge or something, but I will figure out something else to go there.

I'd guess MGs would work. But I can't really judge the ship normally because there is just so many guns on it. I think removing some ACs will work. Especially those 45* rotated ones NEXT to the core, not the ones in front of it, the others. And what are those awkward looking black bullet shaped things?

Their landing decks leading to the hangers. Didn't show up well in this picture and I may remove them altogether.
I will try machine guns but never liked the sprite because they seem like they should be so tiny. As for the number of guns, the whole design is shaped around giving as many mounting points for guns as possible. Like a real battleship. But I will see what I can do to tone it down.

Maybe use Blackhart's gattlinggunsprite then. Looks awesome when placed on a Arc turret with a targeter next to it. And it would solve your problem with the MG sprite. But then the downside is that it should be modified gattlers again.

Well I haven't had a chance to try the gatling sprites but I removed some of the auto cannons, though I added other firepower. Will neaten it up before a final download, but its only at 100 sections so I got room to mess around.

This is an wip attempt. This is a <s>light cruiser</s> destroyer but is really just a stripped down version of the Dauntless <s>heavy cruiser</s> armored destroyer, so is it different enough? Ignore the main cannon, it will be scaled back to two smaller caliber barrels.

I really like the dauntless now. Still some minor things, but these are only suggestions. Maybe you can make the front hangar/launchbay a bit bigger and make it launch bigger ships, it just looks so tiny now. The back ones could be longer.
Weapons are way better now, and I really like the side twin AC with the armor plates(I guess) next to it.

The new ship on the other hand looks odd. The engines have this huge space between them and they look way too small to move the ship(Realism flame wars starts here)
Maybe if you move the command deck thingie back and place 2 double barreled cannons in front of it.( real live battleship style.) Would change the entire apearance of the ship without too much effort.

I'm hesitant to move the command tower for structural reasons, but I will fool around with it. I thought about your gun deck idea and tried it this way but it can still be adjusted.

Engines are way better now. Maybe if the sude engines were smaller, it would look better. But isn't the point, I just can't imagine anybody trying to take of over the oversized engines of a warship, that's suicide!
The middle turret now looks strange since the parts behind it don't really fit in with the part it is mounted on.

And what is that small glowing red thing in the nose?
Anyway great ship.

A <s>battleship design</s> cruiser. Very wip cuz I'm really not happy with most of it. Note that the weapons are placeholders and will have more variety when finished. I'll probably beef up the front or move the main turret back. Should I keep the landing decks or put weapons in their place?

Well the rear landing decks are good but the frontal one just looks weird. It seems to come out of nowhere, it looks like it is above all other sections near it.
The front indded needs some beefing up.
And Ir really don't like the rear engine armour plates, can't discribe it but they just look wrong.

The frontal "jaws" are a Fail relative to the Neat and Tidy look of the rest of the ship. Especially the Engines and the Gun Platforms.
Cut it off for the sake of the style.
I don't give a damn.

I just looked at it with my hand over the front spikes(how oldfashion) and it just looks way better. The blocky front is just cool, maybe have some antenae sticking out of there.

Very cluttered, my friend. The depthing needs work as well. You've also used too many detailed sections in the front. The front is also too wide. You should scrap the front and re-make it.
