Okay, what to do now?

Archives for ships and fleets. 'nuff said. Most of the ships here are very very old and will not work in current versions of BSF or SM. You have been warned!

These first two pictures are of the Spire Walkers Torpedo Frigates, by some unknown technology they make their torpedoes on site, and because of the room saved have been able to fit in a better powercore and engine system, thus making it faster than any Spire Walker ship encountered thus far, some of these have also been retrofitted for high speed deliveries, possibly of top secret weaponry and technologies.

this is a WIP of a carrier im building, where the deck slides out from under the half completed ring and this complets the circle, this is only about 50% done though, because i keep screwing up the rotating.

i did'nt use any ThrusterEx's in these ships, but the most common way is making a section, which is lower than the section you are putting the ThrusterEx under, and then press W, making it appear on the same depth as the parent section.

if you wonder what the glows are, they are shrinked down fraxy_blast_blue coupled with fake aegis and alpha fade

i decided to do a redesign of this ship.

Image

and i think it turned out quite well, other than that it has a lot of repetition in the front armor.

Yes, finally our engineers got their hands on a older generation Spire Walker ship, even though its 3 generations older than their ships in service now its maneuverability and weaponry outclass anything but our most powerful Disruptor Cannons.
Our engineers decided to refit ship with additional armor in the head, coupled with 2 Spinal mounts and new communication systems.
Our engineers also added a large ammount of armor to the engine area, this decreased maneuverability a bit but makes the whole ship survive longer.

The fact that there is a line running along the center of the ship really ruins it for me. It's the thing that happens when you mirror a ship and parts are of center by 1pixel, Won't notice it until you mirror it. If you just put some parts over the core/centerline it would look a lot better, just look at the Meta game battleships almost all of them have it.
The green also looks rather awkward to me, not the colour but the way that it is build. There are just too much holes in it.
And the glow is ugly.
The engine pods on the other hand are cool. Really likeing the V shape going towards the exausts. Maybe remove the 2 curved sections at the rear, and put one massive engine in there.

And it needs GUNS!
Now tell me, is this trolling?

I think it is a decent redesign.
Maybe you should fix up the front end, make it a bit less repetitive.
Also, filling in some or all parts of the centerline would be nice.

For the most part, the redesign is an improvement, but I have to say I liked the prow more as it was. The armor is a nice addition, and could certainly compliment the old outline as well, but I preferred the older shape and the railguns. It just seemed more original and less repetitive.
Consider switching it back or working towards a medium.

I decided to arm all of the ships i made recently, also made a battle pic of a destroyer group fighting some stock aliens.
Any ideas on armament or any things you don't like in the design?

Those are some interesting ships you've got there. I really like them (except for the weapons, lol). My only complaint is that gray mecha section on the back of the circular wing. It looks like it was just randomly glued there to get chopped off.

tried another wingtip design and shifted some sections because of mirroring errors.

Try putting the wings forward, now they are pointing backward in a way suggesting aerodynamic abilities. Problem is that the entire ship is just bulky, and more suited for agressive style.(wings forward)
The entire wings-back-sleek-design only works on thin ships with a metal like setup, alienish ships are just more agrassive and bulky.

I like it. Swept back is a matter of personal design preference I would think.
Kinda wondering about those super sharp wing glows tho..
Shouldn't they be a bit more gradient?

Not that I have much experience to go on, mind you..

@maarten: Why are alienish ships aggresive and bulky?
Metal can be aggresive and bulky too you know.

OK! Take the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th ships in the previous group of ships you made, and really work on them. Like, refine the details, add some really good custom sections, work on the colors and add some glows, some custom weapons and well, just really really work on them. Those are the ones with the best potential of all the ships I have seen you post so far (I do not mean to insult with that statement..) and I think that if you concentrated all of your efforts on refining and refining those designs, then working off of them, you would benefit from it and produce some really spectacular ship designs. :)
