Ahh, I see what you mean now (I tend think of eye-watering in terms of luminosity rather than saturation).
Here's another try for colour, the spines were left fully saturated on purpose to emphasize them. I wish that SM had a 'paste colour' function - or at least working custom colours

Mmm, I tried to emphasise the engine by making it lighter, as I wanted it grey but I also wanted it to stand out against the background. I loosely had depth in mind (or at least I did in the later versions of the ship) but perhaps not as strongly has I could have. Tell me if you think the new colour scheme is an improvement

The angular/curvey clashing is a problem, I might try to put some curvey bits over the blocky parts of the ship, probably not going to be easy to fix without drastically redesigning the ship though

Oh well, at least it's a lesson for the future.
